A quick googling tells me about 1/3 of Finlanders are blonde. Methinks you're just a bit of a weirdo when it comes to hair.

I have to wonder bit of accuracy of that, but if it includes children I guess it makes sense. Majority of people have brown hair anyways, even in North Europe. I'd say worldwide blond as natural color is rarity and most have got their blond from can.

So you're just gonna sit here and not tell us who that vixen is, @killroy?

Talk about evil. Lol

She's my girlfriend. You wouldn't know her though. I met her at Niagra Falls. She's Canadian.

You can say whatever you want, but it doesn't make it true.

Nor your opinion makes it untrue either.

Blondes are rare, but I think there is more than people realize. I had a friend of mine that dyed her naturally platinum blonde hair red because she hated it. I saw her when her hair had partially grown out, and I have wondered since how many blondes dye their hair. Most of my friends with Nordic heritage are blonde or redheads.

Getting back on topic: It seems like there is a lot of support for blonde characters, both for LIs and for NPCs. The thread has been going well, and I'm enjoying the rare sense of somewhat unity on the BSN. I hope that we can get at least something better than the DA:I paint job for blonde hair. The red and brown weren't great, the black hair looked like shoe polish and the blonde looked like a lemon.

I never understood Bioware's reasoning behind the rarity of blonde hair. Fine, the gene is recessive and all that, but I doubt people in the future just stopped dying their hair.

We have lots of blondes here in Denmark. I don't understand, does people think that blondes are rare in real life? Or just in video games?

Blonde hair can be cool and all that but but why not red?

269235-erza_lightning_empress.jpg

It's kind of a realization I've had which is there are lots of people that like dye their hair blonde for whatever reason and honestly, it never really seems to work unless it's their natural color (sorry people that do that!)

Of course there are people like Asdis Ran (as a random example) has natural blonde hair color and it's pretty cool.

Spoiler

I don't know it seems like rather than a blonde character maybe more appreciation that red hair is a super cool color and can be very attractive?

A kind of honest red hair approach works better than a kind of fake blonde one (not saying Bioware would be inherently fake) but yeah something like that.

I feel that everyone else dyes their hair more than blondes do. Redheads dye their hair blonde, brunettes dye their hair blonde, etc...

I've seen several fan-recorded YouTube Vids with a blond Shepard. It just never looks good, to me anyway. I suppose it's also a function of the color palette available for both the hair and skin tones in the character customization feature, as well as the hair textures and falling hair movement. I'm a raven-haired babe and proud of it.

It would be nice if a few more people would post nice examples of blond characters from another game (not a drop-dead gorgeous photoshop'd celebrity) that turned out really well.

For me, the char. customization codes that people share are invaluable.

If you go global and don't just limit it to people of African descent, there are black people who are natural blondes.

Blonde hair is common in some parts of Papua New Guinea.

I think we can go deeper. Some people put streaks in their hair. With some effort, I think we can make these people the target of a conspiracy whilst and at the same time blaming them for said conspiracy.

SJWs are part of the BSN culture. They go hand in hand. Who wants to have a PBJ without the peanut butter? I certainly don't. Do you?

giphy.gif

Why not have just a BJ sandwich?

Bacon and jelly of course.

Someday maybe I'll be able to start, or even just find, a thread on the BSN where nobody feels the need to bring up SJWs.

Ya, that's not going to happen...ever...

Somebody I'll have wheels, and I'll be a wagon.

I thought you already were?

I think that the list of "Non controversial subjects on BSN" is much shorter than the list of "Controversial subjects on BSN."

That's assuming such a list exists in the first place.

Well I can tell you as someone who has studied genetics their whole "blondes are rare that you never see them" thing would never happen. Green eyes are also rare and yet still happen (you see people with them every day). So do red heads (I am one!). There would be literally no way for that to happen unless all the blondes and those who are recessive blondes were wiped out from some kind of event. The heterozygote advantage ensures that can't happen. Fake universe, stupid nonsense. I guess I'm not surprised. You have to realize that even at small percentages you are still faced with millions of blondes. Mass effect there is like 11 or 13 billion humans? You would literally run into a blonde every day. Probably several. "Rare" is pretty obsolete when you are talking about huge populations.

That's actually quite possible. My ex gf was middle eastern, dark skin, but blonde hair and green eyes. Everyone asked if she was adopted. She was not. She just happened to get the recessive traits that were floating in her families bloodline.

Which is probably the ultimate reason for the absence of ingame blondes. It just looks as if someone slapped a straw mat over the persons head.

I'm no computer nerd, but in this day and age it should be possible to use highlights and shaders to create believable hair structures.

I actually really love the contrast of dark skin with light colored hair and eyes. So, while I wouldn't demand it, I think it would be cool if it were to happen.

I think a lot of the ME lore was initially dictated by the limitations of the engine and the budget. The Asari might have been monogendered either way, but it looks like it also helped them save on creating different character models. It was practical to only have one type for each alien race.

When it comes to things like believable hair, it might be a really minor concern, but it can create a distracting contrast when the faces are fairly lifelike and expression, but the hair still looks like a stiff helmet with no depth or variation to the color.

That girl on those gifs looks awesome, but unless you know for a fact that it's her natural hair color, I wouldn't say it is. It looks like a good dye job on someone with brown hair. I mean, I don't care either way and actually think dyed hair looks better, I'm just saying....

I just started a playthrough with a blonde Shepard and the hair looks sooooo shiny and plastic in ME3 (I liked it in ME2 though, it looked like a platinum dye job with some roots showing). I guess that's the reason you can't see many blondes in ME, they saw how horrible it looked too.
