Who else would like a hellscape planet in Andromeda?

Ever seen 'The Mist'? I want a planet like the dimension that bled into ours in that movie. A heavy mist obscuring visibility and impeding navigation, a harsh terrain requiring us to travel on foot, hellish creatures around every corner, and odds of survival very low.

It doesn't need to set the tone for the game but it could go a long way toward making Andromeda feel dangerous and unforgiving.

An interesting idea. It ties into the hazardous planets I'm hoping to see make a return in more variety. I'm not certain how willing BioWare would be to push the survival horror boundaries. I like your idea, but it might make more sense in a game like Dead Space than Mass Effect. I'd be in support of the implementation though.

Wasn't there a planet in ME2, you could land on that had pea soup fog?

The mist would take away from the awesome-looking environment. I'd prefer something like Therum. The lava-riddled landscape is breathtaking.

Tarith.

The mist would be the environment. And nothing could creep up on you on that lava-riddled landscape. It would just be a dead planet.

Yes.

But only if truly messed up, horrible things can be lurking in the shadows.

Speaking of Tarith: So a krogan and a salarian have landed on a rachni world for a top-secret mission. So the two guys are climbing up a hill, going through this nasty green fog.. And as they get near the top, they come out of the fog, and the salarian sees thousands of rachni. He looks over at the krogan and says, "Well, that makes me nervous." The krogan says, "You think that's scary? When this is over, I have to go back down through that fog by myself!"

N7: Blood Pack Communications Relay quest on Tarith.

On-Topic: I support it.

I would probably be content with a place like Riddicks Crematoria (or Haestrom from ME2).

Alien wildlife was VERY lacking in the first trilogy. Ooooh, that would be so cool.

If it's only a short level, then that's fine. Playing through mist for extended periods of time would be boring as hell.

I love this idea.

I would sh*t myself every time something jumped on me, but sacrifices can be made.

But walking around on a barren volcano planet would be tons of fun?

Dat ending.

You know someone has bad taste when they complain about the ending of The Mist.

Lava and spikes and such are just a generic interpretation of a hellscape. The imagery of Hell as a pit of fire and lava isn't present in the Bible. It stems from art made in the era of Catholic dominance, when fear of punishment was more important than doing good. The imagery of constant pain and suffering was propaganda to keep the peasants' pockets empty and the church's coffers full.

You could say similar things about the concept of religion itself, it all plays on what humans want to believe, or are afraid of.

Absolutely, but for a long time the Catholic church was more like a crime syndicate than a religious institution.

I do like the idea of not being able to see the things that want you dead for one reason or another or even not knowing if that growling sound is something that wants you dead or not. Never seen the Mist (not really big on horror type movies in general and was already told how the movie ended) but from what is described in the OP yeah sure I'm up for that. Gives a nice little feeling of being powerless or at least unprepared for whatever is lying just out of eye sight, little splashes like that are always my favorites in games and do instantly make me cautious and even a little fearful despite how powerful I might of been in the game before then.

From a practical standpoint, oppressive mist also saves resources by allowing more localized rendering.  So not only is it clever (if done well) but it's also efficient from a development perspective.

I'm totally in favor of extra galactic fauna (and flora, of course) that wants to eat us, and I'd love something like this.

It's far too heavy a burden for that poor, shifty looking cow to bear.
