Would any of you like if you could not only give orders to your squadmates, but also being able to directly control them, like in DA, KOTOR, etc?

I don't need it and I wouldn't use it.

That said, if option to control your squadmates is in ME:A.... good for people who want that.

I'd rather they didn't. I like the idea of commanding a squad over playing as the whole squad, and I'd rather they built the mechanics around that.

If they make commanding the squad as cool as in SW: Republic Commando, then I don't care about playable squadmates.

<_< Aww. For RP purposes I do not really like to do so. Controlling Cassandra didn't feel right, because it wasn't my character.

I think I'd like it actually. I thought it was fun in Origins and DA2, more so in Origins cause they also spoke each time I took control, like my LI would say "my love?" Or the other squadmates would say a funny one liner.

Right, we wouldn't need playable squadmates because we'd be brothers all.

As much as I'd love to control my Krogan buddy and have him charge at every weakling in sight, I'd rather not.

I like the immersion of squad members being their own self, no matter how stupid the AI can get sometimes.

No, I definitely wouldn't want that and futher more, wouldn't use it. I prefer the squad system the trilogy had and I pray BioWare allows it remain so in MEA.

Would be a natural fit for the Mass Effect series. Playable aliens in singleplayer + seamless switching between classes on the fly + more interesting level design possibilities = better replay value.

If every squadmember was playable and level design was built around this from the ground up then you'd have the building blocks/foundations in place for storymode co-op at some point which might not be a popular idea on here but the majority of the potential audience would assuredly love this feature.

Noooooooo!

In regards to the thread though, I don't believe this feature would necessarily be appropriate in Mass Effect. In DAO, the game was PC-centric and the combat was meant to reflect old-school party-based RPGs where tactical combat was the focus. Mass Effect, on the other hand, has absolutely nothing to do with that.

I wouldn't mind if BioWare were to flesh out commands more, but I don't want full control over companions. If anything, I'd like Mass Effect to take cues from Star Wars: Republic Commando, which is still a shining example of how to do squad-based combat in a shooter and make it fun!

Mmmm, maybe that deserves its own thread...

I like the existing system. As long asthat still works I don't care if other players can control or not.

Yes if it served a purpose. Like Joker freeing the Normandy from Collectors or those missions in GTA V where one squadmate flies the chopper, another rappels in to make the grab, and to other to provide sniper cover. Otherwise, the command system works just fine

I'd be down for this. 100%. I feel like it would make ME stand out more against other shooters.

Don't see why the option shouldn't be there, if you want to use it fine, if not then simply don't, hell the original Mass Effect supposed to allow this in the E3 demo footage.

Off topic, the demo look way better than the actual game.

No. One of my problems with such systems is how they tend to trivialize difficulties. The character you were controlling died? Oh well, just switch off to the next character and continue the encounter.

Heck yes! When I first got into Mass Effect after playing Origins the main thing I missed was not being able to play as my party members. Would love to tramp around as a Krogan.
