I'm on my 2nd playthrough of ME2 and I've beginning to notice that I am surprised occasionally by the points.  I play mostly as a paragon, but I notice that I will get renegade points without remembering which action might have caused it.  I'm vaguely aware that sometimes there are conversation points that aren't upper right and lower right as a clear indication of which is which.  Sometimes there are left and right choices or just several to choose from. 

 

It doesn't really matter to me, I'm not trying to play paragon based on game mechanics or some need to remain pure, but more which choice I want based on the sometimes lame descriptions on the conversation wheel.

 

Anyway, every once in a while I get awarded 7 paragon points and 5 renegade points and I have no idea why.  I guess I could pay more attention to the choices I make or even try to figure which choice gave me the renegade points.  But I can't be bothered.

There are some actions in the game that will, in and of themselves, give both paragon and renegade points.  There are also many actions in the game that the player expects will give points that don't give any points at all and then there's a couple of places where the points awarded are actually reverse to what position the options are placed in the dialogue wheel.  If you really want, you can access the detailed, line-by-line morality guide in the Wiki.

I don't pay much attention to the paragon or renegade points. Sure I pay for it sometimes by having the magic "I win" choices greyed out, but such is life.
