Less daddy/mommy/creator issues.
I'd accept orienting towards son/daughter/creation issues, but I'd like at least a little direction away from 'family matters' overall.
Military bravado.
Most tropes related to Reapers gone. Maybe twists on them.
We-can-all-get-along unity. I accepted most of it in ME3. Move on though.
Politicians Suck.
Redeem whole species due to one friendship.
Even man boobs?
I confess I may not have been specific enough.
Want:
-------
I want a Cassandra but who's not a softy.
Vivienne like character, but more content.
A stoic female character.
Do not want:
------------
Anything that relates to real life issues..

Well that rules out almost everything.

hahaha
Ye. my mistake, kinda meant Social justice, racial stereotypes, or any popular modern issues represented in game character just because.

Why not social justice? Anything against topics of injustices against the poor?
@ Midnight Bliss - thanks for the clarification. I thought a "Pinocchio" might be a perpetual liar.
No: Damsels in distress (like Tali)
Want:
- A backstabbing alien squad mate. Sent to help bridge the species gap, then betrays you near the end. Gets away with it.
- Explosives junkie. Doubles as the new wise-******. Occasionally messes up. Can possibly die failing to defuse a bomb.
- Creepy/incorrect romantic advice giver. Like Mordin + Zapp Brannigan. Heavy weapons specialist or pilot.
What are thoughts on:
- The cliché "girl engineer" (i.e. tomboy taking after her dad who isn't around any more)? The new Shen in X COM 2 is such. I'm all for girls being engineers, but I don't want them to be doing it because of their dad.
I am in favour of embracing boobs of all sizes.
Also funny how they aren't strictly heterosexual. Where's Cortez?
Cortez has the dead spouse, asides from that, he's an ok character, really.
Okay here's my list:
The sassy gay guy
The "I'll sleep with anything" bi man or woman
The "I'm a cold b!tch, now come and warm me up" female romance (Morrigan, Miranda)
The "I'm your bro whether you want me to be or not" guy (Garrus, Varric)
The handsome and noble guy ... who's only into women
The innocent girl you feel a little uncomfortable romancing (Merrill, Tali)
The villain whose goal in life is ULTIMATE POWER for no real reason (Corypheus, Udina)
The ninja / samurai Asian (Kai Leng, Kasumi)
The wise Native (non-BioWare example is Chakotay from ST:VOY)
Okay basically any racial stereotype, you can see where this is going
The female prostitute with the heart of gold (Sha'ira, Inara from Firefly)
The male grunt (James Vega, Jacob)
The grizzled male veteran (Zaeed)
A lot of these can be so easily subverted simply by re-envisioning sex, sexuality, or race. For example, a female bro, a sassy straight guy, or a Ninja-like Black guy. Too often games and TV shows go for the straight up trope, probably not on purpose, but just not thinking too deeply about what they're putting out there.
The Feminist (think Ashley in ME1)
The Academic (think Liara in ME1)
The optimal solution would be to end up in a different galaxy all alone, preferably while being entirely androgynous. That way, everybody's happy!
Shy,introverted, and socially awkward/inept female companions(ala ME1 Liara and DA2 Merril). Such broads bore and annoy the heck out of me in gaming as much as they do IRL.
- Old, noble, grizzled General/Admiral. Come to think of it, old characters (assuming everyone on board is in stasis on the trip to Andramada). You're sending survivors to continue the existence of the species of the MW. Might as well send young, healthy specimens in their prime with a great genetic diversity. It also calls for everyone to do their part in breeding, but then this will cause problems in explaining the inclusion of non heterosexual specimens. Could handwave it away by citing 'test tube' babies.
- Characters with contrarian opinions just because ... reasons. See TIM in ME3.
- This may sound controversial, but ME: A is veering dangerously close to the history of global colonialism by late medieval to early modern Europeans. I hope that just because the 'Ark' carries the endangered species of the MW, it does not give the Player Character carte blanche to go Columbus on everyone.
- Mysterious ancient enemy that is omnipotent, omniscient and omni-everything as convenience calls for it.

God willing, we would be able to pave the way for modern (human) civilization to prosper in andromeda like Columbus did for the Americas or to recruit locals to end the barbaric reign of another civilization like Cortes did.
Any archetype that is not Beyonce.
Was Ashley a feminist?
Was Ashley a feminist?
She didn't like aliens that much lol but I don't recall her as being a feminist. I've never romanced her since I'm straight female but I've kept her around in some play throughs.
Default bro. Some character pushing hard to be friendly is tolerable, until game takes over your character and makes him act back. It's just cringeworthy when given character doesn't work on you and you are not in default-player-mindset anymore.

Yeah, this one is clearly overdone at the moment. ME even managed to have two of them simultaneously.
