(1) Family stuff. Yeah, I get it, people get emotional over this, but you don't need an SF story to write about that. The ME universe has a million more interesting possible plot hooks screaming for attention. Use them.
(2) Sexually attractive non-humans. Nothing does more damage to my suspension of disbelief than this. ME has always been excessively bad about this, and it's time that stopped.

My smuggler is nice but always flirt and ask more credits, but friends are more important. And if someone try to kill me and lost, I always open for negotiation.
I love Bowdaar. I take him everywhere and it made me feel like the old times with Mission Vao and Zaalbar. I love Risha and Akaavi too because... girl power! 
My Captain Twi'lek is flirty and flirt around with everyone but Corso. He really hate it when I flirt with that slimy dude on Coruscant. ("Are you serious? He's OLD!" aka "why are you flirting with that dude, look at me!!!"). As soon as I get Bowdaar, I leave him at the ship. I didn't convince his cousin to get away from her smuggling gang and my girl was like "She a big girl. She can do whatever she wanted." which pissed him off. Love pissing him off.
Either way, he's not chivalrous. No no.
Actually, as far as banter and conversation goes, I think Guss is my favorite.
Edit: Though nothing beats M!BH on delivery - his 'agree' lines so often sound totally like 'just smile and nod' that it has me rolling.
If you never understood why Dorian's homosexuality is a huge part of his character then you just didn't understand him.
We understood. His author wrote him to be The Gay Character ©. I think it was a deeply personal mission and experience for DG, and so it's very hard to criticize Dorian as a character. But DG essentially gave us an anachronistic coming out story that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way (and I'm not talking about the homophobes, a.k.a. about 50% of the people commenting in this thread... thanks for filling out my ignore list, guys!).
I don't really need a mandatory/canon bro-mance NPC. I usually find these characters mediocre at best ('yes-man') and outright annoying at worst ('there is no Shepard without Vakarian'). Garrus in ME2 and ME3 is a prime example. When did we become best friends all of a sudden? His character developement pretty much started and ended in ME1. After that it's all either 'brobrobro' random chit-chat or the calibrations meme recycled over and over again.
I agree; I can only assume he becomes more interesting if you romance him, which I've never done. Otherwise I'm not sure why he's so popular. (He does seem to be most popular with those who romanced him.)
But yes, no more bro characters. I was supposed to be best friends with Varric and Garrus and ended up feeling closest to Isabela and Liara, so. Nice try, BioWare.

There have been people on here who have been butthurt over shepard dying in the ME3 endings due to Liara possibly moving on and dating someone else in the future. Really shows you what kind of insecure and needy mindset these people have.
