Hi everyone,

I was wondering whether you could kindly advise me on how to create and import your own custom-made items, so that this is compatible with BG:EE. I do not have any previous experience with various editors and therefore I've found it most convenient to ask you directly instead of just googling around.

The purpose of the exercise is to be able to provide my characters with personal items, which is something that had been done by some of the local veteran players in the past as well. The aim would be to add distinctive flavour to the protagonists but, at the same time, not to disturb the game balance in any aspect.

In addition to the general query above, I'd appreciate any suggestions on the properties of the first item sample, which shall be a headgear (hood/scarf) for my upcoming no-reload assassin. I do have some ideas but would like to hear your thoughts as well.

Many thanks!

Regards,

B.

You might want to have a look at the thread created a while ago by ussnorway to see if that provides the help you need.

Try this. This is a little mod I made this morning since I'm a nice guy.

What is this? In short, a simple mod that doesn't really do much. You have to "fill in the blanks" youself. It copies an item to your override and gives it proper description so it shows up in game. I've explained the process in few lines, so just open mycustom.tp2, languages/english/english.tra and items/items.tpa files with a text editor (I reccomend Notepad ++) and you'll be on your modding way in a few seconds.

1) create an item via NearInfinity. It shouldn't be too hard. Example - if you want a hood, edit helm30.itm and save it under a different filename (myhelm or whatever). Be careful about naming conventions so you don't use an existing name. Best if you register your prefix, but if you want to use this mod for yourself only there's no need.

2) export it to the folder mycustom/items

3) edit items.tpa file to copy it over to override (how is described there)

4) edit english.tra file to give it description (again, how is there)

5) install the mod

6) CLUA it in. I.e. CLUAConsole:CreateItem("myhelm")

It's not too hard to add it to store/creature or whatever, but I didn't want to bother you with that. If you want to I can add the code easilly.

Unlike NI tweaking, this can be unistalled at your leisure.

And the world is a sunnier place as a result :D.

Referring to my recent experience from the no-reload challenge here's the NearInfinity description of the item ability. I assume some specification is missing in order for the backstab immunity to be effective.

For making items with added effects (and modding in general) visit this page.

As per backstab immunity:

#292 (0x292) Protection: Backstab [292]
Parameter #1: Irrelevant
Parameter #2: Constant Value
Description:
Makes the targeted creature(s) immune to backstabbing.
The Constant Value parameter should be set to 1.          // Yours is set to 0. :)
The effect modifies stat 175 to param2

That's my guess as well. Your item actually removes 'Immunity to backstab' as it sets stat 175 to 0 (your 2nd 'unknown').

Newer versions of NI display parameter #1/#2 as 'unused' and 'Stat value' so you may want to update NI btw.

Thanks to both of you. :)

Far from being a modder, I think I understand the issue now. I'll play around with the settings and try to make it work properly.

Regards,

B.
