I know, you all probably deal with this kind of topic a lot, but I just need to get this off my chest. I don't mean to gripe, I just grew attached to my Hero. :(

I feel like the Hero of Ferelden should have been a major presence in Inquisition, instead of a hand-waving letter. I understand that recreating the Hero for each player would have been difficult since the first game didn't keep track of personality, but I feel it could have been solved on Dragon Age Keep's Tapestry. Since you have to use the site to export your World State to Inquisition, there could be a questionnaire on there about your Hero's personality traits. The Dragon Age 2 section of the Tapestry even asks you what kind of Hawke you had, so why couldn't the first game?

And the first game builds surviving heroes up to seem they have a bigger story on the way for us to play, as does the second game. Hawke AND Brosca disappear mysteriously and something huge is coming. Then the third game reveals Brosca was just off trying to cure her taint and she couldn't bother to make an appearance, let alone drop what she is doing to help FIGHT AN EVIL ANCIENT DARKSPAWN DEMON THING. It just feels like an aborted plot, like the creators changed their minds late in the developing of the third game.

And the Hero's appearance wouldn't have been difficult to work with either, since you can change Hawke's when S/he first shows up in Inquisition. And I was tickled pink at seeing my Mercy Hawke be important again :D

And again, I know it is silly of me to obsess over this, but I am the kind of player who really gets attached to my characters.

What are your thoughts on the Hero?

Let it go. Let it goooooo!

I think the Hero of Ferelden should be left in the past. His/her time is up. Time to start fresh.

The Hero of Ferelden is saved due to their distance from Corypheus. Unlike the other Wardens, they never heard the false Calling, and there were far closer candidates for Corypheus to use as his new vessel whenever he died.

Honestly, I'm fine with how things worked out in DAI. I expected for him to be a prisoner or dead. For the HoF to be alive and on a quest to end the Calling is pretty cool.

Great post. You're absolutely right that the Hero should be featured. Your idea about the Keep has been discussed before, but obviously great minds think alike. You are correct about the Keep being updated to reflect a wide variety of issues to customize your Hero's personality. They could still do this with Hawke as well. And now the Inquisitor will need this too if he is to return in DA4 as speculated.

No HoF then no Hawke either.  That's my take.  I liked my HoF, I did not particularly like my Hawke.  Still don't.

Corypheus vs Brosca

100% COrypheus win,not only that he would have made Brosca into a loyal minion lol

My money are on Corypheus

No, the HoF had their story and it's over. Not to mention, a lot of the HoFs are dead, and the HoF was the most boring protagonist Bioware has come up with so far.

Hawke wasn't a boring character, but was just an NPC you occasionally got to choose the tone of voice for rather than a protagonist. Good riddance to them both.

^And the Inquisitor too! How boring. Just a one armed map stabber now. Good riddance!

No new protag for DA4 either. It'll just be another custom character to discard later.

Just give us a BioWare made character, and also have the computer control it for us. We should all just sit back and watch BioWare do whatever they want and have no involvement at all.

If that happens, no one will buy the game except for one person who will post it on video for all to watch saving everyone $60

Dumb question, who's Brosca?  Otherwise, I wish the Hero had been allowed to progress through all the games.  I appreciated that they at least brough back Hawke but amazingly were not able to make female Hawke look anything like the way she looked in DA2.  Oh well...

I played Inquisition before I played Origins.  Knowing that, I had my hero make the ultimate sacrifice which is what Grey Wardens are supposed to do.  Trusting a witch of questionable character like Morrigan makes doing the Dark Ritual seem rather selfish.

The Dwarven Commoner Warden, whose Origin story is inferior to that of the City Elf Origin.

I don't want my Warden to die unceremoniously by slipping on a bar of soap, but BSN tries hard to make me feel the opposite.

Did not like HoF much. In my world she is dead, so there is not much to talk about. Lol... "Not much to talk about"... See what I did here :D !?

Loved sarcastic Hawke :3 ! Hope Bio will make equally good sarcastic dialogue choices for the Inquisitor in DA4.

Yeah..... I hope Bio actually keeps the Inqusitor for the DA4. It's getting so damn frustrating that DA is not like ME trilogy where you can actually grow to love your protagonist (Shepard). Loved that feeling when I knew that Shepard was going to be in the next ME and I would get to meet my old crew again and continue romantic relationship and see how my choices affected them and the Normandy and and and ... just sigh :/ ...

Nope. There will be multiple dialogue options and multiple paths to take. And each time you watch, it will do something different. So you'll have to buy your own. But you won't be able to choose any of the options.

Dragon age 2 restricted player to 3 preset types of personality , while dao didn't.

I agree that the Hero of Fereldan should have been a big part of the story of Dragon Age Inquisition, considering how closely this involves stuff that is potentially very important to them

But I'm not sure Bioware could have done a good job with it. Particularly not if they were unwilling to allow the player to have control over the Hero. I wasn't very happy with how Hawke turned out.

My preferred solution going forward would be for the different games to avoid retreading old ground so much. DA2 didn't really suffer from the Hero's absence, because there was nothing going on that truly demanded their presence.
