Not necessarily on the ground team, but I would like to see a complex, "bad, for the greater good," type of politician, someone who navigates murky moral territory with ambition, but without being villainized for it. Preferably they'd be on our side.

Coldsteel the Hedgeheg
I can see that happening given BW's recent history.

The Quizquisition guy from Inquisition, except Mass Effect.
He pops up in random places on the ship and asks you horrificly hard ME trivia.

A character that is very much like Ashley but more mature and isn't hung up on herself like Miranda.

Outlaw_Gaiden666 is truly the Natsume Sōseki of our time.

The nerdy scientist or scholar. These characters tend to be really cute to me, and I love the chance to romance one ![]()

I kinda want an awkward, adorkable guy on the inside, but strong and reliance on the outside.
I like someone who is funny and sarcastic, making jokes and being sarcastic .

Badass bookworm
+1. With glasses.
I also want a vaguely unhinged type. Like the pirate laughing in the middle of a storm, I think both krogan's kiiinda fit this but they lack the swashbuckle I'd like to see go with it.

I want the ******* character whose done with all the **** in every part in life, and the energetic sarcastic character who cracks jokes at everyones and everythings expense.
The world needs more Javiks, Zaeeds, Kasumis, and Sarcastic Hawkes.

I would like to see "flexible" personalities, something where YOUR actions/decisions can have an effect on their outlook.
One squadmate has had hard luck, is a bit of a loner, doesn't get along with others. ("The Grizzled Veteran")
Paragon dialogue/choices can help him/her to lighten up, and realize that "working alone" isn't as good as having a family, whereas Renegade dialogue/choices lead to him/her to tell that "this is the reason I work alone" and they remain alone.
It's a classic, but it's a good way to "measure" character development.
A crew member is happy-go-lucky, with a smile on their face, can sometimes bother others with their incessant jokes, but there's something else under that sunny exterior. ("The Happy Mask")
A story event could reveal the hidden trauma, and Paragon dialogue/choices could help him/her make peace with the event, turning the "happy mask" into a real optimism, whereas Renegade dialogue/choices would amount to a "no one cares" and could lead to them falling into despair and even commit suicide.
Obviously I don't like the Renegade version of this, but it would be an effective way of making Renegade less of a "being rude to everyone" and more of an actual "villain protagonist".
A squadmate who is genuine and heartfelt biotic who wants to do the right thing, but tends to be a walking disaster, which pisses off squad and crew to no end when their stuff keeps getting broken. ("The Neville")
Paragon dialogue/choices can inspire him/her to keep trying no matter the odds, culminating in them actually mastering their biotics in a spectacular fashion, going down in a blaze of glory to save our hero from certain doom, with an additional caveat (akin to the "Conrad Verner" War Assets connecting a bunch of otherwise unrelated and supposedly non-important quest outcomes/decisions) where they could ACTUALLY SURVIVE otherwise impossible odds, and eventually lead their own crew of heroes in Andromeda.
Renegade dialogue/choices, on the other hand, leave him/her embittered towards you and your crew, and you see less and less of them as time goes by.
People notice he/she's gone more often, but no one fusses over it since "They're not gonna be missed!" Only to find out later that they've actually been training with the Khet and eventually betray you by giving your location to them. So now you not only have to fight them off your own ship, but the "boss fight" is against that very crew member who before couldn't shoot straight but is now a very real, very deadly threat to you.
I think something like this would be a real treat, a big dose of drama and action blended nicely with player choice and consequence, with equal parts heartwarming or tearjerking, depending.
-------------
As a whole, I don't have any problem with the so-called "cliche" personalities that appear to be ever-present.
There's nothing lazy about having a "cute engineer girl" (Tali), an "uncivilized brute" (Wrex), or "the Number One Bro" (Garrus) personality types.
Just because it's easily identifiable doesn't mean it's automatically bad or lame. As long as there's a reason behind it (Tali was rather sheltered, Wrex grew up in a warzone, Garrus is amazing-I mean-had training not unlike Shepard) then it can work and work well.
I just want to see that those personalities aren't STATIC, if a character can CHANGE, EVOLVE over the course of the story, then I'm fine with just about whatever personality BioWare wants their characters to have, "cliche" or otherwise.
(Of course, a possible exception could be someone like Vivienne; no matter what you do, she more-or-less remains unchanged regarding her demeanor, but that's a personality all by itself.)
I liked how in the Mass Effect trilogy, your Paragon/Renegade dialogue/choices carried weight with the people you interacted with, and as long as BioWare can keep that up, then I'm sure I'll find that I love the new crew of soldiers, scientists, misfits and rogues in Andromeda just as much as those on the Normandy.

An excitable tomboy rookie character who takes up the 'best friend' role Bioware is so fond of. Bonus points if she's the comic relief.
A male Batarian Engineer who is just one giant nerd and is somewhat socially awkward
and I also really want a Rival character for some damn reason. Just someone who wants to constantly show us up.

I've liked all the "Knight in Shining Armor" types we've gotten in every Dragon Age game with the exception of Sebastian. I also liked Paladin Danse from Fallout 4 for the same reason. I don't think Mass Effect has ever had a character like that, so I'd like to see one in Andromeda.
I also get a kick out of hard boiled detective types like Nick Valentine.
