I've been wondering what the armor system in ME:A. is going to be like The armor system changed between ME 1 and 2 so there's a chance it might change again. Personally I'm hoping they might use DA:I's armor crafting system here as well. I enjoyed crafting my own armor especially when we had the option to tint it. Really felt personalized. Then again, the armor system in ME 2 was alright, though I felt it was limited. What do you guys think it would be like or want it to be like?

I just want armour worth having. 3 sets of the same stuff in red blue or green is a rubbish idea IMO (although I do not appose tinting as part of the set up.). Also I would like armour that can be upgraded as you level. I hate swapping cool armour for ugly practical armour as a game progresses. Some times the choice between looks and stats gets hard.

While I think armor progression should be more in-depth like DAI, I hated how that game handled crafting. I also don't believe MEA should even remotely use the system that was in ME1, ME2, or ME3. ME1 offered the most variety, but it became tedious and redundant. ME2 and ME3 largely removed the point of armor progression as it became far more cosmetic.
My only thoughts is the system would have to be built from the ground up. They can incorporate the open world with scattered resources to help create specific sets of armor. I suppose there can be schematics or templates you can buy or find to craft rarer sets. What I would really like is for armor to be upgradeable and customizable, rather than just outright replacing it. My only reference to this would be to look at how Fallout 4 handles gear progression. That game did a fantastic job of adding progression to weapons as well as armor.

In b4 Crimson comes in here
My favourite armour is collectour armour. I feel like a real warriour even if I don't need it to be a terminatour. I just vapourize my enemies.

I want bigger armour selection. In DA:I as mage I crafted one armour/coat and used half game, other half I crafted same armour with better materials. And only changed to DLC armour because it have better states. And could I get swordsmen class with real sword or omni blade.

Yeah killing enemies and looting their armor is pretty fun, I would like that very much. Otherwise, just some nice none bulky looking armor. Something a little more feminine for the ladies please.

I'm somewhat fearful, given the "frontier" feel I'm getting from this game, that armour crafting will be 5% crafting and 95% grinding for mats. I am therefore hopeful that if they do introduce single player MMO mechanics to bloat the playtime (like DA:I) that I can get one of my minions to do it so I can get on with actual important stuff.

I know!
It's kinda silly to think about lol. Like soldiers would go around looting enemies for armor in real life haha. Not very realistic. I just love seeing what random "surprise" could be lying around for me xD

Actually looting has been a part of war since war began. Look how many luggers, German helmets and Japanese swords etc made it back in WW2 for example. Many soldiers have been known to snag an AK during ops simply because these weapons are easy to use maintain etc.

Yes we should have option to take enemy weapon if it's not DNA locked or possible to use with human arms. armour could be scanned and reverse engineered.

Yeah we could have some research system like in XCOM that allows us to use enemy equipment for ourselves, I like this idea

While i'm no fan of ME3 in many ways i think it managed the armor variation best of the 3 games.
Have severe doubts over introduction of crafting.
I certainly don't want a return to ME1 and its inventory where i found myself swimming in useless armors

I doubt they would make the armor look more feminine, someone somewhere might scream sexist and make a huge issue out of it. Most likely the armor would be like DA:I - male and female had about the same designs of armor

Damn, those are some nice armor styles, and yeah there really should be a melee class, those omniblades need to be utilized more

No I know they loot weapons for real but I was talking in regards to the armors. Was/is that common as well?

I liked DAI armor. I'd be grateful for anything like that tbh.
Edit: But completely agree on the sexist thing. Feminists are awful, they ruin everything.

I'd like to be able to design my armor at the start of the game and stick with that design throughout, meaning I'd like stat related technical augmentations to be essentially invisible (just for continuity of the PCs appearance). I didn't like converting my Shep into Ironman or some collector looking goon just to improve his armor stats. Helmets should be retractable (if the atmosphere allows it), not popping on and off willy nilly with no sign of them being removed and held. Even with the helmet up, I'd like more of the face to be visible. The PC's designation/rank should be visible on all his/her armor... setting him/her apart from the rest of the squad without having to go to a completely different looking armor.
I'd also like to be able to design armor for each of my squadmates (as I gather them, assuming new ones will get acquired part way into the game). I like making my squad look like an actual squad rather than a band of misfits (and that took a long time to accomplish in ME1) and I hated having Garrus go through 1/2 of ME2 looking like his armor already took a hit from a missile and he just couldn't be bothered to fix it. No little bubble face masks for them, please.
Looting actual armor pieces off alien bodies to wear just doesn't make sense to me. Like I'm gonna strip down some fallen krogan on the battlefield and just climb into his armor because it's better than mine in some technical way... yeah, right... not! Finding tech schematics and applying them to existing armor is more where I'm at with this.

I agree Dragon Age: Inquisition's crafting system was something I hated as well, for me it was the biggest grind in the game for you had materials that were level specific, patterns that you had to find, rare crafting materials, searching for crafting materials, and too many stats for the gear.
I think they have a good base with the potion system in Inquisition for you have a schematic you find and then use herbs (or in the case of Mass Effect maybe enemy armor remnants such as HUDS and servos) to upgrade and improve the armor along a set path. If they include the attachments from Mass Effect 3 I think that would be at least a good place to start for a completely new system for Mass Effect.

I liked ME2/ME3 approach (though ME2 was far more limited) and wouldn't mind return of it.
No ME1 repeat.
And seriously, no crafting.

To add to my original post, I'd like for armor to have different slots rather than just being one full set, as was the case in the original trilogy.
I should be able to mix and match the helmet, chest piece, gloves, boots, leggings, etc. I also wouldn't mind if MEA borrowed the armor layering system that Fallout 4 has, where you could have a basic under suit and then armor attachments on top of it. Especially being an explorer in a foreign galaxy, having practical armor that is easily modifiable and can be upgraded and switched out on the fly would make much more sense for expeditionary tasks.
I'm really hoping armor isn't largely cosmetic like it was in ME2/3, but is better implemented than ME1.

I like piecing armour together and recolouring it, like with DAI and ME2/3. Provided there are enough options, it gives it a unique feel. I wouldn't want to acquire the pieces by crafting. Just via shops, mission rewards, boss fight rewards, etc. Or perhaps you could get one by taking a certain choice (like if someone offered you a bribe?).
This time, I'm hoping they bring back light/medium/heavy armour types though, with different strengths and weaknesses for each (like in ME1).
Oh, and visors! I really like visors, since most of my Shepards had short hair. They tended to clip horribly with long hair.
