Okay so I'm late to the ME3 party. I only picked up ME1 late last year and am just about finished with ME3 at this point (I was a poor teenager when the games first came out and didn't even have a console past a PS2 okay don't judge me). It's nice to know people still play multiplayer but if I started playing it would I get my ass handed to me, be honest. I usually don't care much for multiplayer in games because people can be annoying online for the most part and I find I get really lost among people who are really good at games and give newbies a hard time for not being 'on their level'. However I really love this game and want something to tide me over until Andromeda comes out.
Hit a girl up with some advice?
I'm on 360 btw!
Late to the party.

Welcome to the boards. Be vary of the guys around here, mostly they(we) just bark, but don't bite... too much.
In any case, any experience so far? What kits, weapons, mods you have unlocked? What do you like playing. Give us a link to your N7 profile and we can probably help more than just guessing blindly.
In general, start by playing Bronze and Silver and move to higher difficulties once you're ready. Also, if you're on PS3(as I assume by you mentioning PS2), you can add me to your friend list and we can play a couple of games tonight or tomorrow night. PSN is JohannAnderson.
I'm bad, but I can probably carry you on Silver ![]()

If you have all the DLCs installed check which setting you have when searching for random games, by default it's set to Collectors/Platinum which is impossible to manage if you are new, check that you have Bronze difficulty selected and you will have a great time learning the basics of the game.

Thanks for the help so far!
I didn't really specify before but I'm on 360 (made the jump from PS2 to 360, idk why) should I maybe post the same thing in there too?
I'll probably make a start this weekend on getting everything downloaded in terms of DLC and stuff because as of now I've only looked into it rather than actively starting it haha.

Max out your commons & uncommons first. Keep 33k in credits for a Jumbo equipment pack just in case you need Rockets, Ops Packs, Medi-gel, & Thermal Clips.
The M-92 Mantis SR, M-96 Mattock AR, M-5 Phalanx Pistol, M-22 Eviscerator Shotgun, M-9 Tempest SMG, are all good choices for silver, & gold if they are at level X.
Avoid doing pure H-melee with the Geth Juggernaut (tis boring as watching paint dry), & spaming slash powers (unless there's a Sniper PuG you don't like).
Find a Character that you like playing, & git gud (some are harder than others) with that character, then branch out.
Always play the Objective waves on 3/6/10 (Some people still don't get in the hack circle).

Don't worry, the huge majority of the people playing this game is nice. I'm playing it for 4 years now and I've yet to find someone insulting my mom.
The game has 4 levels of difficulty, from bronze (the easiest) to platinum. Even if you don't have much experience with online shooters, you should be fine on bronze. You will be matched here with people who are also relatively new to the game and don't have the most powerful weapons. It's perfect to discover how the game works, before moving to higher difficulties when you're ready.
There is a ton of useful information about the game mechanics in the Ressource library, pinned at the top of the forum. Many people here are also willing to help when you have more specific questions.

Step 1: Spam veteran packs until you get the uncommon Quarian Infiltrator (female).
Step 2: Play nothing else until you have the other, rare quarians
Step 3: get a Claymoar (can be interchanged with either of steps 1 and 2)
Step 4: unlock all that other frivolous stuff I guess?

As you say, there's a little of that everywhere, but less of it in ME 3 when compared to any other game that I've seen.
I don't think you're likely to encounter many people who care that you don't play on their level (unless you consistently go into Gold before you're ready.) As long as you putter around in Bronze until your skills and manifest are ready for Silver, and follow a similar progression from there, most people should be perfectly happy to play with you.

Kiddo, you just landed in Mass Effect Multiplayer: Las Vegas Edition. You are never late to this party...It goes on 24/7. Every once in awhile it slows down, then the game goes on-sale and there is an in-flux of new players such as yourself. As others have mentioned, at the top of the forum is a thread where you can find a group of regular players to get a few matches in with. If you love mass effect as much as the rest of us here do, you are going to have alot of fun.

I'm just going to tell you right now. I do bite. Just putting it out there. If you like that kind of thing OP, I'm your man. As long as you know scum when you see it. Basically just ignore the garbage characters unless you need some variety. You can't go wrong with humans, geth, or krogans.
Destroyer is as good as it gets. I don't know many that play on 360, but carry the torch for the master races over there.
On a serious note.....most important tip I can give you is stick with Adepts and Engineers early on while you level up your guns.

Human Engineer and Adept are great characters to start out with learning how to use. Personally I always preferred the Engineer since the drone makes the kit a little more fun IMO.
But after you've played for a bit and opened a few 5k or 20k packs, you will eventually get something wonderful
Learning to use him effectively will teach you a lot about the game and you will look incredibly adorable while doing so
