But for how long?!
On topic: Seeing as I've never played a game where one of my characters romanced a non-companion I can't really say if it would be a good thing. At the very least they should have some tertiary position around whatever your goal is though to make it seem less "one night standish".

I would've liked to have been able to romance Chakwas in the trilogy. She's an older lass, but she's aged well unlike some others.

Exactly. This is why I would have preferred to play my BFF Ashley as the protagonist, who was more involved in mission planning / execution, and took the lead in romancing that gorgeous hunk of Manhood-Shep. I really like the the feminine-warrior archetype, even when she is in a lower echelon rank - or preferably a professional in another field who is attached to the mission in an integral way.
