Here's a little sneak peak of a project I've been spending my time on since early December. The part I'm showing here is a new, somewhat exotic tileset. This is mainly to show the overall theme of the set: the shapes and positioning. It uses a lot of rounded surfaces, so it's somewhat higher poly. The red-green-blue grid-lined textures seen below are just there so that I can get the UV map lined up properly; I'll go back and swap in the final texture once the modelling is complete, and then use the current colors for the tint map.

1. Here is a hallway section, showing some of the variants, including the stairs to a lowered floor, inset and external columns, ceiling support arches, and a rounded dome-like window. You can't see it clearly, but at the end is a junction tile with the cave tileset.

2. These are some of the corners and recesses.

NWN2_SS_022616_104546_zpswbao8vor.jpg?t=

3. This is the standard door opening, and a view of some of the ceiling arches. The ceiling is tall and barrel-vaulted in form, with massive, blocky arch supports

4. Finally, here are various side walls.

Currently the set is up to 44 tiles, and I have most of the common forms complete. Hopefully it'll look more visually appealing once the end textures are in place.

What do you think? Is there anything you'd like to see added?

Well, in this case I just meant cold environment stuff in general. But yes, including ice structures.

I'm still focusing on this tileset and adding more variants; it's probably about 60% complete now. Meanwhile, I'd like to find out if there is interest in an expansion of the snow coverings released with New Verdigris? Trying to do every building and placeable would take a lot more time and work than I really want to spend at the moment, so I'm just looking at adding a subset. Any preferences? Maybe one of the building sets?

If someone wants something specific that's what the requests thread is for.

I've never heard of it.

Ah, okay. I thought that thread was for suggesting reskins for Hellfire. But I guess the topic has wandered since then.

Looks great so far :)

Our project has some areas which consist of frozen interiors, we used the default tilesets (illefarn) and just lightly tint it cyan lol

Wasn't the best looking interior, but can only do what you can with so little given :P I hope to see it up soon.

You know adding new tileset textures is easy right?

How many people are making a module with an icy interior?  Maybe I should cancel my plans for one.

With the right normal map, that (Illefarn) probably would make a nice ice or snow cave tileset. Anyway, I'm doing this tileset for a specific purpose; I'm not sure how flexible it's going to be. :)

I'm guessing probably not that many, particularly since there aren't many people even making modules any more. Anyway, it seems like kind of a classic fantasy environment, so why stop now?

Well, it's just that I haven't done much more than a few hours of preparation for this particular sub-area, so it wouldn't be a big deal to redirect my efforts toward some other area.  I haven't started creating any of the custom content for it, for example.

No ice interiors here either. However I can picture them in future projects.

I don't care what the plans are for the tileset textures, only the tile geometry. When thinking about tilesets I divorce the tile geometry from the textures because the textures can be easily changed.

Mine would not likely be made with a tileset.

the tile have the organic feel of the ice caverns in the Icewind Dale series. I hated that area because it draggged on so long and I hate grinding and puzzle areas (Icewind Dale had a lot of those) the concept of a dungeon in a glacier is cool (excuse pun please) though and I would like to try something like that one day.

I was thinking of adding a second texture set, which would consist of various marble block surfaces to form an Elven monument-style interior. The curved topology may lend itself to a facade of that nature. I'll have to experiment.

My project includes the Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl, which consists of a few exteriors and a two layer ice dungeon.

Some open floor tiles completed; nothing too exciting.

Shown below are three different room variant styles and a "jog left" metatile (lower right):

rooms_zpsnrglbycc.jpg

Almost every tile type is covered now with at least 2 variants, except for the stairs. Possibly I might add a narrow corridor set (similar to the smaller room style at upper right) if I can get the ends to blend seamlessly with the wider corridors. There should be plenty of variety, at any rate.

I really like the door edge projecting above the line of the wall. It makes the areas feel like the BG type of 3D or like a table top game.

Experiment with a blended narrow corridor tile is... mostly successful. It's impossible to get a perfectly seamless match, especially along the wall top (not visible), but it works for the most part. The roof is a bit bland though. Hmm.

Okay, all of the narrow corridor tile variants are finished. Here I am testing that the map FoW works correctly when doors on the narrow tiles are opened:

NWN2_SS_031716_210045_zpslitbjv5a.jpg

All that's left now are a few odds and ends variants, the stair tiles, and some metatiles I have in mind. After that, I need to make sure the texture swap works correctly on every tile, then do the actual textures.
