So, I got it into my stupid head to maybe start playing ME3 multiplayer.

Is the unlocking of characters and gear still ****** hell?

Yes, the long grind to unlock everything is still the same. If you're on PC, it's possible to bypass it though.

I take it there aren't a lot of goats around where you live?

No, of course not. Nevermind that in all the hours I played it in the beta I only managed to unlock one alien race to play as, which got wiped when the game came out. I mean, there are all these cool characters to play, and instead I have to play Shepard... again... for a random number of hours. **** that.

Is that supposed to be some kind of pun on "****** hell"? Because otherwise I'm not getting the joke.

I don't really take that long to start unlocking new kits or guns, and besides what good will it do you if you don't yet know how to play them, the beta was like 4 years ago, a lot have changed since then. You might cheat your way to a lot of stuff like some scrubs chose to do, but you still won't manage gold or platinum if you haven't gone through the learning process in bronze and silver first.

Funny thing happened one day on my road to a legitimately maxed manifest on PC.

...I realized I was playing it because I enjoyed the gameplay, not because I had to get my Lancer from VII to VIII.

And that's what the game is all about :)

This may be an entirely novel idea to you, but maybe I want to play this again because I thought it was fun but the whole unlocking thing drove me away.

Oh wait, no, that's not a novel idea, that's exactly what I said in my last post:

It's really not that hard to understand, is it? That I just want to choose which character I want to play in the multiplayer that is different from the single player in the fact that you can actually play different characters and species...

Instead it's not an option, not without a lot of pointless grinding (and then I have no guarantees to get the characters I actually want to play).

I mean, there are all these cool characters to play, and instead I have to play Shepard... again... for a random number of hours.

The uncommon characters, all of them non-human, start dropping after a few hours of gameplay. I started an alt not long ago (I already have two maxed manifests on different platforms) and after about 20 hours of play I have about 15 or 20 characters unlocked.

So cheer up, it's not that long, and I'm sure there are BSNers here who'd be happy to play with you to help you earn credits faster and get your unlocks sooner.

I heartily endorse this product and/or service.

Well it literally could be worse like DAI:MP unlocks, where there is no progression in unlocks, instead you'll have to get lucky to snag a lvl 21 UR that'll make every weapon you get in that class completely obsolete.

If you're on PC, well there's always space magic :wizard:  But if not space magic, well the unlocking doesn't that long if you're playing gold/ plat, especially if you are learning all the kits/weapon/maps/enemys, learning all of those takes longer than maxing a manifest out.

One of the first things I did was max my characters and their appearances, even before I had all my Gear maxed I was buying the 99k character packs. It really didn't take long at all. There were only three things that ever felt really "grindy" and they were personal choices to get.

BOTB, the 200 waves on some kits at the time felt a bit, "prolonged"...

Over-cover Grabs III...(Sort of following under BOTB)

And finally if you think maxing your characters is going to be a grind, try maxing your UR's. I honestly didn't think I would do it.

That's just how the game's designed, subjective opinions on the matter are irrelevant, it's not really that "hard to understand", If you want all the content the game have to offer you need to work for it and learn a thing or two in the process.

Its a ridiculous grind, but I still love it. The only reason I created an alt was to be able to relive the excitement of unlocking new stuff (and to relive the frustration of STILL NO GODDAMN GRENADE GEAR).

What's a UR?

Ultra Rare

The best weapons and a few kits are ultra rare cards, they are very difficult and random to get.

I too, would really like to start playing ME3MP again. Played years ago on the 360 and bought it again on PC just for the MP a couple months ago. The lack of controller support put me off(wasn't great with keyboard at the time and I'm still not at my best with it) and then the reminder of just how bad it is to unlock stuff and having to re-get everything I had on the 360 put a stop to me playing it. Gonna try it again after getting back into DAIMP and having fun.

Tell me more.

Credits and unlocks can be hacked on PC. It's possible on consoles too (for sure on PS3), but it's way more difficult.

It definitely isn't a reference to sacrificing goats to the RNG gods, because that would be wrong.

Dunno why some people gotta go all lecture mode on people, thought we were cooler than that. I don't use the juice myself but if someone wants help I'll point them in the right direction.

I'm pretty happy with the way things worked out insofar as myself is concerned. I maxed my manifest legit and now I'm just sick of having to get trollstored for half an hour buying consumables.

I wouldn't judge someone for using space magic from the get-go though. It's personal preference. I cheated my way through Skyrim very early on and still have yet to beat it. (That game get's a lot too grindy for my tastes when it comes to their profs.) Just a matter of how much BS you're willing to take and what you find fun.
