Yeah I don't need 5 shaved head options.
As a minor correction, if I recall right, the actual number was around 13 short/shaved styles.
I am pretty happy with short hair to prevent clipping (I just HATE that so mostly don't bother with mods and the like), but it has to be good. Some hairstyles in DA:I and ME3 were pretty neat imo.
Don't expect too much and take what you get for granted.
My guess is that as long as we have squad members it won't happen this console generation. For the amount of calculations required is something that I am not even sure current PC hardware can handle for multiple characters and if we have to hide the head of our party members people will be upset about that.
I am not holding my breath they will have better hair styles, but at the same time I have some hope since they don't have to worry about the older consoles and trying to get complex graphics to work properly on ancient hardware.
The gifs I showed were examples of HairWorks from Nvidia. This same technology is used to generated Geralt's flowing hair in TW3, as well as many varieties of hair for creatures in the game. It's very possible and if BioWare were to team up with Nvidia, they could make it happen.
That being said, it's never going to happen because EA seems to have a partnership with AMD instead of Nvidia. To my knowledge, AMD doesn't have any sort of equivalent and the only AMD feature DAI received was Mantel (a gimmick that barely any game supports).
So, unless EA were to start making dealings with Nvidia, which probably isn't going to happen, we'll continue to have bad hair that doesn't look good and doesn't move realistically.
Is something like Triss's or Ciri's hair or even the hair that female Hawke had back in DA2 so hard to pull of in here?
I mean seriously. If we are never to get long hair and say goodbye to it, then is it so hard giving short hair/ tied hairstyles that are stylish like this:

I mean common!
Miranda gets amazing hairstyle, in ME3 Ash even gets one too(hell her old bun is way better then any hair Shepard ever had) and in DA:I pretty much every not you has actual hairstyle compared to you:

In meantime this hair happens not to be option for us. Amazing!
So please if we are not to get real hair options....because "reasons", then don't give every 2nd NPC actual hair in here that tells "Hey guess what we actually know to make nice and decent hairstyles but we don't know how to give you that as option."
Long hair? No thanks. It'll clip like crazy and is super impractical in combat. But edgy short styles and nicely tied up hair with fringes and plaits? Yup.
Fem Hawke's default hair in DA2 - that's what my femShep needs, and I'd love it on the new female protagonist.

Long hair doesn't mean good hair, even if I can see the appeal. I would love to see good tied up hair (exist millions of ways to braid hair, but BioWare forgot completely in a medievalish/fantasy setting like DA... thanks, Bio, thank you very much...*sarcasm*) and short, modern, stylish hairstyles.
There are so many ways to have feminine, elegant hair without having long flowing hair that clip everywhere, that I always end up surprised when I look at BioWare choices. Expecially in DAI. I think BioWare never made hair that ugly for the protagonist. And I really don't understand why they made so many balding hair or choose plain horrible styles.
Even worse is when they decide to lock the only decent hair for the protagonist in the presets, like in ME3 and DA2. It's frustrating.
AMD has TressFX which is pretty similar.
The problem is I'm only aware of one game that actually used TressFX, Tomb Raider (2013), and it looked decent at best. It doesn't look nearly as good or realistic as HairWorks. Either way, the feature doesn't seem to be supported and I doubt it would be included into MEA as the only AMD feature present on any of these games seems to be Mantel and nothing else.

Interesting. I knew they used it for Geralt's hair, but not for the animal fur.
From my understanding Mantle has been sidelined by AMD for they are no longer actively developing for it, but they still support it on their video cards. It seems that Vulkan has taken some of the APIs that AMD was using for Mantle. So there is a chance (albeit microscopic) they could work with Nvidia to optimize better.

Yep. Virtually every creature with some sort of hair or fur is dynamically rendered by HairWorks in TW3. Some of it is really amazing too.
Ah, I just looked this up. Mantle does apparently seem to be defunct and AMD donated it to Vulkan so that they could create a new API in OpenGL. I don't know if this means EA might actually build a partnership with Nvidia, but that would be great! I don't remember if there were any Nvidia features in Star Wars Battlefront, but I'm fairly certain there aren't any.
I would think Bioware has their own engine by now.

They are using Frostbite and probably will be for the foreseeable future, the first three Mass Effect games used Unreal Engine 3. They just create modules that run on top of the engine.

Exactly. The easiest way to understand it is that a game engine is the foundation of a home. Middleware, such as speedtree, havok, Nvidia PhysX, etc., is the frame on top of the foundation studios often incorporate into their engines to make development easier as well as improving the overall game.
Tabarnak I just want some actual feminine hairstyles for Fem Ryders..
For once I'd like to play a female character that DOESN'T get forced into having stereotype lesbian "army girl" hair or something that looks like it was stolen from an androgyny seminar without having to use hair mods. smh
I totally agree! But who goes into combat with long hair? Demi Moore proved that point in G.I. Jane. Why can't an off-duty hair style be chosen as an option, just as Shep could choose an off-duty garment. Kirstie Alley as Saavik in ST: TWoK is a good example here. A full-fledged woman can be a warrior with a little coy ingenue side to her. I love being mildly sexy while kicking-butt too. Rey, Ashley (ME-3), and Xena.
No Bowlcuts/Afros/Dreads = sad me.
Forget the hair. I want hair physics.
BioWare. I demand you use HairWorks from Nvidia NOW.
Whoohooaaaa I want this! !! And it better flow EXACTLY like THAT!

LOL
The DA:I forums had some spicy words regarding hair styles.... including some of mine.
Seriously, though, I see little incentive for Bio to improve the CC. EA/Bio knows that this game will sell and it's not because of the amazing hair styling of the studio devs. So, why include the additional cost of resources, time and money in the game development? There is no benefit to them.

What benefit there is making different kind of armour? Cool different weapons? Personalization at all? Is a part of the CC that have to be better made, and players have every right to ask for it.
Inquisition had some stupid hairstlyes, I think its a limitation of the Frostbyte engine. I dont think Frostbyte has any built in hair psysics or support, so Bioware had to get creative and give us shaved and short hairstlyes. Hopefully Bioware upgraded the engine and we get better character creation options.
I'm hoping for better lighting, camera options, color wheels, and and easier to use interface as well.
Kai Leng had the best hair. That's the only good thing I can say about the character
The hairstyles weren't too bad in ME.
Lol this ![]()
Except I didn't like any of the hair styles in ME1 and ME2 xD
For Female Ryders, a hairstyle like Brooks from Citadel DLC perhaps? I always liked this hairstyle, it wasn't so long it was impractical either.
The only hair option I used for ME.
... and Inquisition.
As long as I´m not stuck with no Character Creator at all like in Alpha Protocoll, I´m happy despite the few nice looking hairstyles.
The option should be there at least. Then the ones who thinks it's impractical, can choose not to use it and the ones who believes it will be gorgeous and nice or whatever can use it, at least give us the OPTION.
I hope people get their hair options, but we need a bangin red head on the ship. Kelly Chambers was great in ME2.....ME3 fixed that real quick
. Red heads are under appreciated.
