I paid $60 bucks for Dragon Age: Inquisition when it came out because i LOVED the first two editions of the game.  But I got taken away from the game and did not keep up with the DLC.  Now if I buy all the DLC to complete the game it will be an additional $55.

Of course now the Game of the Year Edition which INCLUDES all the DLC is only $40.  and i hear Bioware is not going to offer an cheap upgrade to the GOTY edition like every other game company offers after it has made its money on a game.  Learned my lesson.  I'll  never buy a game at pre-order from Bioware ever again.  And i've bought every game they've made to date. Never again!

Yeah, no, that's not a thing. Nice try, though.

Every other company? How can I cross over to the OP's parallel universe?

Which companies is the OP talking about? I can only assume that OP aslo missed all the sales on the dlc and the sale on the GOTY edition..

... and many people continue to insist that ignoring existing customers (in favor of chasing new customers) is a good long term business practice, and believe that an existing customer should "get over it" and "quit whining".

Um... what? All we're saying is that the OP is either confused or outright lying about how things actually are being done today.

Personally, I'm agnostic about whether it's a good long-term practice. I can see the logic of the current pricing structure. You don't want to train customers to wait for the GotY instead of just going ahead and buying the DLC. And the people in the market for the GotY, are, by definition, not your biggest fans in the first place, since if they were they'd have bought some of the DLC already and the GotY wouldn't make sense.
