how can leliana be alive in dragon age: inquisition, if she died in the first dragon age. can someone answer that question please.

Maybe because not everybody is kill crazy and kills her in DA:O?   I never take the urn just a pinch. What would  my warden need with a urn of some woman's ashes?

Just to add to this... if you really want to know the explanation, read the DAwiki summary of her Trespasser DLC epilogue. There is a section for "If Leliana was killed..."

Nightscrawl,I think those words "if she was killed"   is overlooked by many that may think everybody kills Leliana. Is it tunnel vision or my way or no way?  I dunno but,there's no absolute answer since there are unknown thousands of players. The forum doesn't speak every gamer that plays DA games  but, only for a handful of regular contributors.

 

I don't defile or take the urn so, in my games there's no need for my warden to kill Leliana.

 

Why would my warden even think of defiling or taking that urn and then having to kill the one he loves?

I don't understand this response. The OP is specifically asking about Leliana being alive in Inquisition, which would suggest that they killed her in DAO. The "If she was killed" section that I linked provides the answer to that scenario. That's how the DAwiki works: it shows the various results for a given scenario. I posted it so the OP would have their answer if they didn't want to, or couldn't (PS3/360) play Trespasser. This has nothing at all to do with what other players did.

 

I didn't kill Leliana either, so that scenario does not apply to me. But that is not the issue for this thread.

They can't write a story line based on how we play the game.. I kill Loghain in DA:O but,he's alive and well in DA:I.. No biggy.. I understand the writers had no idea how many thousands kill him or allows him to live-like Morrigan's DR.. Some kill their wardens but,in DA:I he/she is alive and well.

 

Its time for players to move on and enjoy the game instead of worrying about somebody they killed showing up two or three games later..

I don't know how or why your import got borked for Loghain to be in DAI if he was dead, but that should not have happened. That is why Stroud exists, to account for all of the permutations that exist between Loghain and Alistair.

Your save import got bugged. I killed Loghain in DAO and he stayed dead in DAI.

In any case, there is an explanation for why Leliana is still around.

My theory on what happens if you killed her;

In retrospect, the Guardian of the Temple of Sacred Ashes was probably another of the spirits that we encountered in the Gauntlet, likely a Spirit of Faith that had taken the form of the original guardian at some point, much in the same manner as Cole and the spirit of "Telana" from Jaws of Hakkon.

 

If you desecrate the Urn and are forced to kill Leliana, you also kill the Guardian and Wynne during that sequence, meaning that there's two Spirits of Faith in the vicinity. Either one could have taken up residence in her body to revive her (like Wynne) or instead taken on her form and identity (like Cole).

 

Inquisition tells us that the Guardian and the Ashes have mysteriously vanished since the events of Origins (regardless of what happened), so it might be a fun idea that the spirit decided to ditch the persona of the Guardian to instead take a more active role in the guise of Leliana.

Well, it's somewhat similar to two other characters who were in the game before JoH too, so... no, not really, you didn't  catch them red-handed, better luck next time

At least Gaider did it for some time, I don't remember many post of the others (though, it's not like Gaider's world state wouldn't be the default worldstate and many relevant decisions are dropped on that straight line. )
