Any thoughts on where in the world the sanctuary of Fen'Harel that we find in Trespasser might be?   It seems remote and mountainous so possibly the Hunterhorn Mountains or The Tirashan?    It is definitely a real world location as opposed to a pocket domain and has to be far enough from civilisation that no one would have discovered it before now, even with the fields of strip weed to discourage people.  Have I missed anything that gave a clue to its location?

In area-specific dialogue, Dorian reveals that the local "grass" is actually somewhat toxic and sharp as well. (Perhaps planted as a biological defense to keep people from casually walking into the area?) But the Vints growing the stuff doesn't prove much, since with eluvians the seeds could have been transported all around Thedas.

Yes, I was referring to the area we visit in game rather than the location shown in the epilogue.   In any case, the elves there are travelling to a location and have not yet arrived.   So they could pass through a forest to get to the area where elves went for sanctuary during the time of the Evanuris.     I don't think the Unchartered Areas would be suitable because it is so far south and so a rather inhospitable climate.   The Arbor Wilds seemed to have a very lush vegetation for somewhere near the arctic of Thedas but I guess that could be down to residual magic from the city that was once there.

Anyway it seemed to me that he would need somewhere safe for them all to gather and what could be better than his old refuge?

It's likely a Titan (or the corpse of one). Remember - the death of Titan is said to make the land bloom. I'd wager that the Arbor Wilds - and the area we visit in JOH - is built on the remains of a Titan. Someone had a screenshot of the Temple of Mythal side-by-side with that dias in Descent. The temple is situated in a very similar position - it actually looks like the land was essentially stripped away, and the temple was build on top of a similar dais.

But if a plant that dangerous was taken out of an area that had herbivores evolved to deal with it, it would either fail to grow in that area at all, grow so poorly as to be unable to have a viable population, or take that area the hell over and spread over anyplace with a remotely similar climate. It could be doing the latter, but we would probably know of it by now if it was. Or at least a lot of the companions would know of it.

Anyway, it probably is a Tevinter plant. (Either that or Bioware didn't think the implications through, which I'm not saying is impossible.)

It is quite possibly located on a part of the continent yet to be explored. Or perhaps in another unknown land entirely.

Well, if the time of day is any indication, then I would say to the west.

You leave Halamshiral at or around noon. You arrive in the temples in the morning. 9am perhaps?

Three timezones west. Maybe the Tirashan or a little further than that.

However, when you leave for the Darvaarad it's nighttime, and yet if you go to the temples at this time it's still daytime there. Probably just another example of BioWare being lazy, of which Trespasser has many.

Wow, I hadn't realised that the Arbor Wilds could be due to being built over the corpse of a Titan.   I was thinking it could only be underground but of course if magic can make things sink and be buried then presumably it can also uncover and raise it up.

One thing that had struck me was how many times we visit elven ruins and they are underground.   Both sets of ruins in DAO were like that and in the Dalish origin we comment about it; I think we may do so again with the main Brecillian ruins but it is hard to remember.   Merrill's demon in DA2 in bound inside a cave.   In DAI we often end up going down into ruins, even if bits of them are open to the sky.  The Temple to Dirthamen was definitely underground and that was something that dated back to the time of the ancient elves rather than a more modern Dalish construct.     In Masked Empire, the initial entrance to the eluvians involves going down a long flight of stairs, so it would seem to be underground.

May be that is why Fen'Harel's refuge was so high up and exposed; because the Evanuris and their followers didn't really like being out in the open, so less likely to follow them there.

I was in comeplete agrrement with Blackwall when we visited the ruins--that it was a shame we could not be there in the night time in order to infer our placement based on the stars.

I believe it is a land far to the west, one that the Blight has never touched.

Hmm, kinda like a place the Warden was said to be heading to.

Makes you think.

I thought that possible at first, but if the sun's position is any indication, it's only about 2 or 3 timezones west of Halamshiral.

The last level however could be further west than that since it seems to be the afternoon there.
