They overused the thing, no doubt. I also hated how often it was necessary to progress in the game.
But that was partly because I'm really bad at video game driving. It took me about ten times to get past that part with the Knight's stupid drill tank.
Still, I thought it maneuvered more smoothly than most video game vehicles once I got used to it. I like it pretty well when I'm not essentially required to use it for long periods.
Arkham Knight really needed to have the Batmobile be just an option, not a necessity, when it came to completing the mission objectives, something that we could use to make the game easier if we wanted. Giving players the option to be able to do "no-tank" runs would have been far more fun and challenging.
That's what I hope they might do for the Mako in MEA, be something we can use to make the game easier from time to time, but we can still complete the game without it, just with a bit more effort required.
When it came to planetary exploration in ME1, I tended to always drive the Mako near to the objective, then get out and take out enemies with conventional weaponry. It was far more fun (and infuriating when it went wrong) to be dodging missile turrets, geth juggernauts or Thresher Maws, when Shepard was armed only with a shotgun or rifle, rather than driving around firing the Mako's cannon with reckless abandon.
