With all of this talk about having our character being defined, and naming our ship; I was thinking... What is our ship has a blank slate? Something allows us to get attached to and makes the ship feel much more personal.

I would love to imagine the "Tempest" being an ugly, piece of junk--yet reliable, rustbucket that has seen better days (kind of like the Millennium Falcon).

Depending on what resources are available, I'd love it if the new ship wasn't as sleek and new as the original Normandy, since it would be a nice change, something new and different. I'm guessing that won't be the case though somehow, going by what we've been seen in the promo art and trailer.

But yes, I'd love it if the character had more of an attachment to his ship, sort of what Joker had with both Normandy's, then again he was pilot so.

When Joker called the Normandy, his ship, I wanted to pop him in the nose.  Just because you and your sexbot are in a relationship, just because she's the Normandy, doesn't mean it's YOUR ship.  You're just the pilot.

A major reason I grew to love the Bounty Hunter's ship in SWTOR was because it was a complete rustbucket compared to the Imperial ships the other classes got, but since our class story involved us stealing it in the first place, beggars really couldn't be choosers.

I really hope we might be able to customise the interior and exterior of the ship to some degree. Would be nice to have a personalised ship that we can make look as sleek, imposing, or totally run-down as we'd prefer, that runs the gambit from the pristine Enterprise to the haphazard Red Dwarf?

Lol yeah I felt if anyone had more right to call the Normandy their ship its EDI.

I just wished Shepard had a bit more of Joker's attachment to the Normandy, no matter how debatable or misplaced that attachment would be.

The SS Minnow was born a small skiff in the slums outside Earth's shipyards, but with hard work and a dream, rose to become a mighty clipper of the sky, in charge of its own fleet of skiffs.

The SSV Harbinger started out as an idea. It was later that a designer drew a picture of what the ship will look like. Everyone agreed on the looks. Workers from all over the galaxy were hired to build the Harbinger. Everyone took pride in what they did. From the metal workers to the folks installing the cables throughout the ship. At long last it was completed. With everyone in attendance the name SSV Harbinger was unveiled.

Next we'll be asking if our fish tank should have a backstory... It's a ship. It's a means of transportation to take us from point A to point B. I don't care if the ship has a happy story or a sob story (ship's father ship and mother ship were killed by the reapers). What I care about are the people on the ship. They are what gives the ship character, not the ship itself. Of course, it's always possible we may get another EDI, which could arguably be considered the ship's personality. Only time will tell.

I think our fish tank should have a backstory. :) ... I would say they're all rescued from a lunch date with Javik.

I think it's unavoidable that the principle ship in ME:A will have a backstory attached to it.  I doubt we'll be able to write that backstory ourselves since it would just introduce too many variables into the game right at the outset.

Hes catching on!  There comes a certain point when things get so absurd parody is the only way to counterbalance.

Should our ship have a backstory?

YES! Our ship should have a bakery! Danishes any time, day or night!

It would beat Normandy's reputation for having not served good food

Maybe sushi too?

Backstory:  You know, Shepard was once knocked out by a danish thrown by Mess Sargent Gardner on the SR-2... :D  ... and that's why James did all the cooking in ME3.

It might be cool if the ship we have has a lot more miles on the clock.
I remember in me3 there was the ssv London which had been decommissioned but salvaged by refugees.
Maybe the notion that the ark has to pick up and retrofit whatever scraps aren't being used in fight against the reapers.

Maybe it could even be a damaged ship built by a non-human race, Turian or Asari most likely, quickly restored to a barely working vessel because the reaper's advance put time pressure on the project.

Or it's a new but hastily constructed ship where maybe not all components were tested as thoroughly as they should have been... (like some video games)

Who cares for a backstory! Or the name!

Can we romance the ship? We NEED to be able to romance the damn ship!

Hm...was meant as a joke but thinking about EDI I actually ...*shudders*...Bioware, move along, nothing to see here, don't get ideas!

Why not, you could certainly do some cool stuff. It's been done before in scifi shows (I am thinking Moya from Farscape for example).

Now that I think about it, one of the few cool aspects of Stargate Universe is how the characters got to slowly uncover the backstory of their ship. Something like this could be done in ME:A. Say we salvage a ship of an Andromeda civilization (maybe even the remnant) and we uncover parts of it as we go through the game. Could even make for a good upgrade gameplay mechanic. I'd be down for something like that.

This is true, but then again....what will its orientation be?

What color will the ship be?  If you make it white do you always get the right of way when docking?  We are going to need some info here.

I can only imagine the moral outrage on the internet if the ship were in fact white.
