No 'Iconic' protagonist face please

Basically, I'd just like the CC to be good enough that I don't have to use the default face if there is one.
Inquisition's CC was fine.

The problem with promos like that is that BW doesn't necessarily have a stellar track record at predicting which of their characters will become wildly popular. And if you're going to build an iconic character to be the face of your franchise, you need to be sure you're getting the right one.
I mean, if you think about the Mass Effect series and try to think of a few marquee characters that spring to mind, most of us are going to think of the same handful of characters. And if you had to choose two squadmates from ME1-3 to put on a cover, most people would probably go with Garrus and a choice between Liara or Tali. There would certainly be outliers (perhaps Wrex) but I'm pretty sure if nothing else Garrus would be a lock.
Yet ME2 actually put two squadmates on the box, and they chose Miranda and Thane. Miranda I kind of understand, but Thane? I really like Thane, but it's still an odd choice.
It's tough for developers with a game series like this, I'm sure.
They don't really need to show who is going to be popular. They could cram everyone in a trailer and just tease who is who or reveal only the ones who isn't optional and plot essential.
But I never understood the way they handle Mass Effect. They build a game with limited RPG narrative with an overaching arc and set in a futuristic space civilization but its also a console-friendly first person shooter and they intend to make it desirable to the 18-35 male "Call of Duty" demographic. They branded their games with a poor rendition of Mark Vanderloo as the Shepard and ignore the existence of female Shepard and yet they make a lot effort to consistently write and animate FemShep to be a fully developed main character and it still took her years just to get a cinematic trailer and concept art of her own. They have a vast amount of memorable characters and yet only three (and a half if you count Jack's cameo) are portrayed. Kinda make you wonder if they have bipolarism with their development and marketing team.

You can edit the default for either Male or Female Hawke. There's a mod for that and I make some adjustment to male default to play him (I find out that he have a weird jaw just to make his beard look full and defined).
But with default MaleShep, it is a complete face scan of Vanderloo's head, not something that was created from CC.

I have nothing against default faces, but then give me a default scanned face for a femRyder as well. I stg, 80% of my annoyance with Sheploo was that I didn't want to play as a male PC, but the female options weren't as good as him, so there was always a bit of residual envy because of that. I don't even like how Sheploo looks like, but he did have the most detailed face of all the characters in the game from the start.
The solution however is obvious--- fingers crossed for a decent CC....

Sometimes I play as default Shepard, and I love how mShep looks and ME3 femShep. I don't mind it.

Hopefully we have a good CC for ME:A, I never really minded the difference and throughout all of my Shepard's I don't think I ever used the default face.

Yeah, except, Halo. Insane brand recognition. No face.
The helmet IS his face.
And don't forget the Legendary ending of Halo 4.

Default Shepard fit in much better with the world and all the other unique squad mates. It would suck if my companions were nothing more than CC models and it would also suck to be the only CC model surrounded by detailed face scanned companions.

I suspect that face scans aren't returning. More than likely it'll be unique face models, much like Inquisition has.

Inquisition had some dubious looking faces and Dragon Age has never had face scans afaik.

I want it, and Bioware does too.
Killroy, Inquisition most definitely uses face-scan for Sera at least for example.

While I never was fan of that Soldier Sheploo, because it felt like the whole story written with him in mind, I fully realize marketing purpose of it. So in the end I have no option, but to accept.

Just one of many problems DA2 had as a result of being rushed.I had this problem with Hawke. I didn't want to use the default face (not a fan of medium-to-large beards), but everything I could make with the CC was so derpy that I just gave up.
I often wonder how much better DA2 could have been if they'd had more time.

They did it with Inquisition after going for the iconic look for Hawke in DA2.
But they did use the iconic inquisitor helmet in every bit of footage.

Disagreed. I never actually seem to play with the default faces once I've gotten a good enough grip on character creation, but the main protagonist having an iconic face seems to help the developers focus on giving him/her actual personality. At least when it comes to voiced protagonists.
After Inquisition, Fallout 4 and The Witcher I'm convinced that current game development and voice acting budgets simply aren't what they need to be to provide voiced blank-slate characters intended for roleplaying who actually sound and feel like real people. If our main character really must speak out loud then s/he needs a tangible face and personality for the voice actors to work with, which we then get to fine-tune ourselves. Otherwise we get short, abrupt and either passionless or overly hammy dialogue options in an attempt to make everybody happy, with the VAs spread way too thin, and I don't know about you guys but I find the old voiceless dialogue trees a LOT more immersive than that.
I'd rather have a compelling premade character to modify and play around with than be able to superficially personalize an empty shell who sounds stupid. Look at Telltale. They're making a killing on glorified fanfiction(which I love). Why? Good character writing and focused voice acting that only marginally inhibits roleplaying. Commander John/Jane Shepard of the Alliance has some of that. "The Inquisitor" doesn't, and neither does "The Sole Survivor". Enough said.

It's just a helmet. Beth did the same thing with Skyrim.

Yes pls, no protagonist face.
Having a face is ableist and Bioware doesn't want to offend those without faces! Stand with Bioware against ableism!

What wrong with having it for those who want it and customization for those who don't. Like they've always done.

Nothing at all but alot of people get irratated the Default looks vastly superior to any face you can make in the CC unless you mod it on PC but Console players are screwed no matter what because truthfully the CC of Mass Effect has been real bad so far.
So I want B-Ware to make Sheploo quality Default faces for both the Male & Female Pathfinder especially if the CC is going to blow.

I'd like to have an iconic face for my protagonist just in case if CE would suck. I couldn't create decent Shepard in ME, so default Shep saved me from cringing during every cutscene with terrible CE Shepard. Thank god for pre-made faces.
You know, at first I wasn't happy with default Shepard, but later I started to love him. He's just... iconic. The endless amount of fan/other content with Sheploo you can find around makes me even more eager to play as him again. That face and voice makes me smile every time.
And what about Inquisitor? Yeah, you can find some fan content too, but he looks different in every video/pic, so I feel disconnected, because none of those random CE characters are mine. IMO, his quite dull personality was a part of how I'm thinking about him too.

I have bit issues with iconic faces as well. I get that it makes marketing game easier, but I hate how default face is seperate from customized one's, you can't usually customize default face and then default look has great things like hairstyle or even iconiq things like Hawke's blood smear that you can't add to custom face and that sucks. Why should default face get all the good and iconiq stuff?
Then to person who never plays with defaults (unless game has non-customizable main protagonist) it feels quite weird to see default face on things. It's like seeing important character of the game that you have never encountered in the actual game.

Yeah, I never visited or searched anything fan-ish online for Mass Effect until after I was finished with the trilogy and quite honestly had no idea how default Sheploo looked like exactly. I mean, I've seen him, I know he's on the box, but the image is quite dark and you don't ever look at the box when you've installed the game & you don't really care abt some random guy that has nothing to do with your game. So yeah, it was kind of off-putting to see someone else having "an iconic" Shepard face, when that face looks very different from my own personal canon. I prefer the way they've solved it in Fallout 4, just a shot from behind of a man/woman in a blue jumpsuit and their dog, it's iconic as f-uck, yet you still get several presets for a face and a damn good CC.
