So with new galaxies comes possible new laws and of course new species, with ME we have had a few species with special traits. Krogans are especially good at destroying everything just by existing, vorcha can heal from grave wounds and the scar tissue heals in such a way it becomes a second skin mimicking armor. Salarians are fast & hyper intelligent, asari have booty er I mean beauty, biotics and long lifespans, humans area combination of all other species.

Pretty much, each has a unique trait some with several even. My question is, what race specific traits would you like to see in alien or even plant life in andromeda? I for one would like to have a species that can attune their brainwaves to other species in such a way that their stare becomes ghost ryders penance stare.

I want a races with different and unique forms of biotic powers. A race that uses biotics like geomancy, another like pyromancy, etc.

Biotic powers are largely malleable and undefined so they're a good platform for all sorts of "magic." How do biotics translate to pyromancy? They split oxygen atoms to make small, fiery explosions and biotic fields to move the fire where they want it(or something). What about geomancy? Biotic fields are used like telekinesis to move earth and stone(or something).

Why would a galaxy have "new laws"? I'm assuming you mean "new laws of nature" or a more general "new laws that govern how life works" - both of which should be false. Andromeda should be no different than the Milky Way in that regard.

I do hope Bioware gets more creative with alien life though.

I'd like to see a race like the Raloi (not read about them) who can use their flight to ambush or attack from a distance, shapshifters who can partially assume the form of various lifeforms or transmute parts of their bodies into shields or weapons, and for some bizarre alien fauna something like this...

It would be interesting to see a primitive culture that believes biotic powers are magic, and incorporates this into a nature-worshipping belief system.

And you get Paragon/Renegade options with them.

Paragon Ryder: *facepalm* I'm not your god (sighs) it harnesses mass effect fields to remove plaque.....No, don't worship the toothbrush......

Renegade Ryder: Alright listen up! I'm your new god, so what I say goes. *shoots someone* See this? Magic stick, now move your asses or I'll make your volcano explode.

I think Mass Effect is ready for a symbiote alien.    You know one of those 'worm' life forms or something similar that take over a another sentient being's body.    Its always been one of my favorite tropes in scifi.

Splitting oxygen atoms actually absorbs energy, it doesn't generate it. In fact, all atoms before Iron absorbs energy when split because they naturally want to fuse.

Also, biotics cannot possibly be capable of splitting atoms when none of Shepard's biotic squadmates, incredibly skilled biotics mind you, couldn't biotically manipulate the lock mechanism of the emergency hatch in the Normandy's airlock.

Biotics is the manipulation of Dark Energy. It is not Magic and does not come in "forms".

its basically space magic at this point, creation of shields, ripping apart DNA/electronics, using it to fly

its all adding up to "we can't actually say its magic but..."

It is space magic, which is a whole other ball of wax.  What they said was correct.  It's not magic, I wish people would get that through their minds.

I would like to know how you mean "more creative" though. The more they'll rationalize other organic species the more it will stick out how weird it is that they're on par with humans, like how all races share a common tongue or have the same mannerisms as humans etc.

It's supposed to be very loose and fantastical when it comes to the aliens. Their specific traits are defined in their attitudes and their history as well as their culture and aesthetic designs, as opposed to cognitive differences or corporeal distinction. I think it's very intentional that we don't get important Elcor or Volus characters for example because both races are depicted as very different in how they function to humans or the other major races. It's important the aliens are made to be relateable to you as a human.

It warps the fabric of space and time.

It's basically magic.

A person harnessing dark energy to move sh*t with their mind.  There's no basically to it, it's magic every bit as much as mages in DA using lyrium to amplify their "powers."  Might as well have "specialists" as it was suggested, just build it on scientifically sound principles to create some semblance of plausibility.

The ability to cause atoms and molecules in a discrete area to oscillate to generate more and more heat.  Atomic motion = heat...with enough heat you can transition things to various states: liquids, gases, plasma.  Could do some nice things.  Melt through an enemies' armor, ignite explosive ammunition (or seriously overheat a thermal clip,) hell, just set someone's hair on fire (see how well they scope you down then!)

It is most definitely not. The creation of shields and shredding objects at the molecular level has all been explained and maintained within the context if in-game lore and science. Biotics: The manipulation of Dark Energy to effect mass. Shields = raising mass. Ripping apart = combo of rapidly raising and lowering mass. Levitation = lowering mass. There is no magic in this context.

This is true, but I suppose I was referring more to the non playable alien species. With regards to cognitive differences, these can be explored in great detail with non playable species. The two shining examples of this are the Geth and the Rachni. With the Rachni, they literally describe experiencing some sort of color-sound-taste synesthesia to the point that when they try to communicate their conscious experience to other species, it makes very little sense because it is beyond their comprehension. "Sour yellow note" and all that. It's interesting stuff like that which they could get creative about.

But if every alien is a cookie cutter humanoid, that'll get boring pretty fast.

I paid(or rather, my dad paid) $70 for that game when it came out. Remember that? When publishers just charged whatever they wanted for console games? Primal Rage cost $75, came in a flimsy cardboard box, and most copies were missing the screws holding the cartridge together.

Well if we're just throwing concepts out there that we would like to see, I wouldn't mind seeing a purely organic alien species that can strip a entire planet of life in a matter of months, not unlike the Tyranids of WH40K.

Reapers got nothing on them

Tyranid Planetary Assimilation:

Day 00     Initial mycetic spores are dropped, generally containing Lictors or Genestealers. Infiltration force led by a synapse creature of some kind; reproduction of Tyranid creatures likely begins immediately.

Day 09     By day 9, Tyranids will have expand to around 200 km from the drop point, and will likely present a significant threat to planetary defense and resident Imperial Guard forces.

Day 13     Tyranids will have expand to 700 km from the drop point; may begin infesting local water sources.

Day 37     Tyranids control area within 2000 km radius of the drop point; basolithic infestation to 5000 km radius.

Day 48     Tyranid population growth skyrockets, with population doubling approximately every 2.5 days.

Day 50     Main Hive Fleet arrives, craft generally number around 1.5 billion. Psychic contact with planet is cut off by the shadow of the Hive Mind. Any attempts to escape are quickly stopped by the Hive Fleet.

Day 51     Primary consumption of bio-mass begins (resistance has generally been eliminated by day 51). Brood ships land, releasing Ripper swears, which consume all remaining organic material and deposit them at the reclamation pools. Capillary Towers (and the Brood ships) send the material into orbit.

Day 80     The hive ships descend into the upper atmosphere and begin collecting it. Reduction in atmospheric pressure causes oceans to boil away, which are also collected. Lack of oceans causes plate tectonic shifts, dramatically increasing volcanic activity. Upon completion, the Hive Fleet moves out of the system in search of fresh prey.

Day 100     The Imperial Navy arrives in respond to the distress call to find the world lifeless.
