All right, I'm having a rather consistent problem where my Baldur's Gate DVD from my Baldur's Gate 4-in-1 Box Set isn't recognized.

I'm consistently getting a "Please insert a disk into DVD RW Drive (D:/)." message from my computer.

So far I've tried the following commands:

"D:/autorun"

"D:/autorun.exe"

"D:/setup"

"D:/setup.exe"

All end with the same message as above.

I've also tried restarting my computer with the same result.

A friend also sent me a .msd file of their Baldur's Gate.

After it successfully downloaded and installed got a 7 button window, one of which says "Play".

After pushing the play button, the window disappears and the program also disappears from Task Manager as if the process were ended.

Nothing in the ReadMe file seems to be current and the update page is nowhere to be found.

Any help that can be given would be appreciated.

Sounds like you may have a problem with your DVD or reader:

- have you tried cleaning the DVD?

- have you tried putting it in a different computer to see if it is recognised there?

I don't think it's the DVD reader because when I tried putting in SOTC to see if the install process would start on that DVD and it worked fine until it noticed that the main game wasn't installed.

The disk itself appears to be clean: no prints, no dust, no scratches, no flaws that I can see.

When put into my parent's computer (Windows 7 home premium 64-bit), the Install window popped up just fine thought there were some weirdly bright and pixelated greens and reds in the demo video. And opening videos played fine.

Trying the different compatibility modes on my computer in case that makes a difference:

-Windows 8: no

-7: no

-Vista: no

-Vista service pack 1: no

-Vista Service Pack 2: no

-XP Service Pack 2 (I don't have a 1 apparently): no

-XP Service Pack 3: no

-98/Me: no

-95: no

So much for that possibility.

Compatibility would affect whether a programme works - but not whether a disk is recognised in a drive to begin with.  When DVD readers start having problems they can have difficulty with some disks, but not others as a result of the amount of commercial graphics on the disks - so it's still possible that cleaning the DVD and/or the drive lens would help.

There are various system problems that will mean a drive fails to recognise a disk, but in that case I wouldn't expect your other disks to work.  You could have a look at the potential solutions on the following to see if something will work for you.

Either your DVD is dead or Windows doesn't recognize your DVD drive. Possible solutions here: https://support.micr...en-us/kb/314060.

I'm guessing I should just ask amazon to send me a new disc set.

I remember that in the early days, you had to put the disks in in the correct order, I think it was ToSC then the discs 1,2,3,4 and then ToSC again. Is the ToSC game on the DVD? It might be expecting that before the 4 in 1 dvd.

There we go! I still had the game in compatibility mode Windows 95!

Took it off and the game works fine. ^-^

Hi guys, i bought BG2 single disk installation with the TOB expansion recently, i tried running setup.exe and right at the start it starts asking for disk 2,3,4 until i get to disk 5 which is not available. Since this is a single disk installation, i have no idea how to proceed with this. Can anybody help?

Did you try looking at the DVD with Windows Explorer? Maybe Disk 5 is on there (I think that's ToB in fact). So if you see a ToB or Disk 5 folder, then in the install browse to that folder and see if you can continue.

Hope this helps!

Hi Corey and hi guys, i did explore the CD, there is disk 5 but the setup cannot proceed anyway. When i run setup.exe, the setup process stops at update.url. Is this has got anything to do with error in my installation?

Also,,,

This is what my setup.ini looks like. I did noticed there is no key 5 in there. Can you please guide me as what to do next?

Unfortunately I do not own the disc set, so cannot tell you what key 5 should be. Maybe someone else who has this set and who installed successfully can tell you what the key5 should be.

Corey, by any chance that you have 4-in-1 baldurs gate trilogy by weidu? it includes BG1, BG2, BG TOB and ToSC. I am still frustrated that i cant properly set that up. So, i bought just the BG2 and TOB in hope that i can at least minimize all the headache of installing too much at one time. Alas, even this failed too.  :(  :(  :(

0, 1, 2, 3, 4 = 5 keys. That's not the issue I'm afraid. Try installing w/o internet connection.

Sorry. I have the original disks - takes a LONG time to install them all.

When it asks for disc five, try disc one.

If that doesn't work, try the others, but I think that my first suggestion is correct.

I see, but i dont know where i should point to when it asks for the disks. I tried every folder but it wont proceed. So I just point to the CD Drive and it works until it asks for Disk 5. There is a .ifo file labelled DIsk 1 until 4. I tried copying the .ifo file and make a new .ifo file and labeled it as Disk 5. Much to my horror it asks for Disk 6.  :o  :o  :o

If you still have problems, I would suggest buying from GoG or similar.

With GoG it is only £7, £12 for both Bg1 and Bg2.

Weird thing is that EE is even cheaper at the moment. £5.69

At prices like that why struggle with DVDs?

GoG is a fantastic offer; imo the best you can get. Dirt cheap, no discs, patched, good to go.
