I'm not even sure how a WW1 FPS would work. Everyone has a bolt-action rifle and fights over who gets to use the heavy machine gun? Only aircraft are biplanes and triplanes? Only combat vehicles are slow, ugly and underpowered tanks? Doesn't seem fun to me.

Slap on some shiny graphics bling on the old concept of being the unstoppable hero, fighting whole companies on his own. Some kind of period Rambo. And you're good to go. Oh, and multiplayer, so you get you machine guns and prototype weapons via microtransactions.

Honestly, I don't see the appeal of reviving World war shooters.

They kind of did give us an official time of release when they said 'Holiday 2016.'

[...]

Doing ones due diligence is admirable, but when you give people a time of release (however vague) can you really expect people not to get mad when you give them another time of release, especially when this new one is just as vague?

Technically, Q1 2017 includes Holiday 2016.

Can live with delays if it results in a better game and product. But the same youthful spirit that keeps me interested in games also wants Christmas tomorrow; not next year.

Why would they do that, until they're confident they can release the game without major bugs? People have these weird ideas that development studios aren't super busy. Intellectually, they know. But they don't actually get it. The amount of effort required to release a professional version of even a small piece of software -- let alone a AAA game -- is a lot more than most folks realize. Bioware employs around 800 employees. That's around 800 people whose goal, at the end of the day, is successful releases of their games. That amount of employees alone should tell you the effort behind releasing games like ME:A.

So, in short, Bioware is doing their due diligence. Be patient. Quit getting OFFENDED or acting ANNOYED that there isn't an official release date.

I am neither offended nor annoyed.

The comment wasn't just towards you, but rather everyone in general. I just happened to quote your comment as a jumping-off point.

Oh, well, I suppose it's for the best...

I just hope it's not a complete disaster on release, like so many games are being as of lately. Especially on PC ¬¬

Agreed. In the meantime....

Sorry, you won't be able to shoot from this one.

Although a part of me is glad that they are taking their time, another part of me is genuinely worried that this delay, writer loss etc is all part of a larger pattern that spells trouble for Andromeda.

After ME3 and five years of development, they better not screw this up.

I hope this doesn't turn into the next Episode 3. I doubt it will, but stranger things have happened.

They know it, and no doubt you know they know it.

Staff turnover is common and I don't understand how it is a sign of trouble for a game, BioWare has had people leave during development of games for as long as I can remember.  Having a writer leave at this point is a lot less problematic then them leaving at the start of the writing process, its not like they can do major re-writes to the script at this point if anything it will be just patching holes by things that are changed due to development issues.

I actually wouldn't be adverse to an FPS going back to WW2, however. For a time the market was utterly saturated with them, but nowadays popping Nazi heads would actually be original.

WW1 also had flamethrowers, chemical weapons, shotguns, pistols, light machine guns, SMGs and all sorts of melee weapons from bayonets, trench knives, brass knuckles, clubs, spades, etc. All of this makes for a potentially solid and unique FPS if done well.

And there were more ground vehicles than tanks in the war.

That would be the optimistic approach, but I would bring up the pessimistic perspective that it would be better if the was no turnover at all, especially of critical staff members.

I just hope enough people are talking about it to force BW to confirm a release date one way or another.

to borrow a quote from what Ashley told Shepard onc. "They'll give us a date when they're ready to not before and not after.

Sure, and infinite money would be great, too.

It's not going to be a WWI Battlefield game.

This is anti-news to me. It was leaked from a hiring position that the next Battlefield game will be a WWI game.

You can believe that if you want. But I assure you that it will not. Just think about it for a moment. It doesn't make sense for them to set it in WWI. Who would get excited about that? It would be a huge downgrade from BF4 on pretty much every level.

This is the Andromeda section, we don't give a toss about Battlefield. Shut it already. Jesus!

Only disappointed in that this is a light year for gaming for me. So far I got MKX-Kombat Pack 2, Street Fighter V, and have nothing on my radar until MEA. Might be a good year to explore other interests at least.

To think any basis for a video game to be made when looked at in a nuts and bolts fraction of the reality of the matter is of no consequenceto if that video game will be made.

Are you freaking kidding me? We got threads about Quarian hairsweat for crying out loud, and even way worse than that. And when people discuss another EA product somehow that is a problem? Correct me if i am wrong, but Bioware is a part of EA and Battlefield is relevant to the discussion as to why Andromeda got delayed.
