Heh, now you've skipped right over "vague assertions" to ballfaced lies. You're saying that the ratio of idealized fictional women is 12 to 1 between brunettes and redheads? I imagine my shot-in-the-dark google search is more substantial and objective than anything you'll find to support that claim, not to mention that you were the one who asked for examples. And even if that was true, it would still be an unfair focus on redheads.

Well, I wouldn't call you a liar. I'd just call you wrong. You can "imagine" whatever you want. I don't need anything but statistics to support my claim. Are redheads idealized in pop culture? Sure. But there are far more blondes and brunettes who are leading women/characters. Simple math. Simple facts.

for every accomplished redhead there are fifty just as accomplished brunettes and blondes, statistically speaking.

Exactly.

Shepard herself for one, Kelly Chambers for another, but my original point was that Mass Effect is actually pretty reasonable about keeping the redhead numbers vaguely realistic and I don't find the need for an increase in Andromeda just for the hell of it.

Shepard doesn't count. We are Shepard, and there's no option to go screw ourselves, so....

Kelly Chambers isn't even a legitimate love interest.

Who's asking for an increase? People want a redhead character in a prominent role. Nobody's asking Bioware to round up all the gingers and ship them to Andromeda. You seem to be overreacting.

Yes, who needs originality anyway. Personally I find reading or watching the same things over and over again with slight variations incredibly boring, but maybe I'm just a snob.

Nothing is original in this day and age. Least of all hair color.

Just remember your very first assertion (which sparked our back and forth) was that redheads are "flat enough to slide under a door more often than not". I'm still waiting on clarification of that while you're going off on tangents supported by Google search.

I've never really found red hair on men attractive.

But there's something about Domhnall Gleeson that attracts me.

Gleeson - ah, dear General Hux, you prove male redheads are the devil's own brood! I hope to see more of him in future Star Wars though, I kinda liked his over-the-top Hitler-speech in SW7 ... alas, if only his german dub-voice wouldn't be the same that Howard Wolowitz has ... that made it kind of weird in the cinema, I can't wait for the blueray

But I derail ... but wait! Star Wars and Redheads!

The gorgeous Shae Vizla!

Yeah I know, but Mara Jade is so overused by now ^^

Do you have any pictures of fit women in their underwear to support this claim? It's an important part of assessing the merit of representing a hair color.

Considering scientists reckon that the red head gene, will die off totally in a few hundred years, I would argue we should see less red heads in ME for the sake of realism. You know authentic stuff for a change would be refreshing :)

That's a hoax. The gene being recessive doesn't mean it vanishes if it doesn't manifest. Take my brother for example. The last person to have red hair in our family was three generations back, and yet, he was born a redhead.

It does mean being recessive, that it will appear less and be passed on less, eventually vanishing altogether. It was a evolutionary experiment that failed and is being removed as we write. I agree this business of it vanishing by 2060 is BS, but over the next few hundred years it will be down a great deal. Therefore why put more reds in MEA

Then however we speak about the future and ... it would probably provide all people with the best dyes possible, so all haircolour is valid. I mean come on, what kind of women doesn't dye her hair today? And I for once never talked about natural redheads in this topic anyway...I take the fake ones as well...

Oh, and speaking of genes...could also be very likely that genetics get so evolved that we: Can eradicate diseases already as babies, increase lifespan and youth, ANd parents determine the colour of their offsprings hair. It sounds frightening for us today, but designing your baby? I could imagine that very well in the future, and totally in the ME-Universe

By what criteria did it "fail", not really sure what you mean by that. It's just a mutation, with no evolutionary advantage or disadvantage. Light eyes aren't going to disappear either.

These things will become more rare as time goes on, but the gene isn't going to vanish completely.

So you reckon parents would deliberately make their kids gingers in the future. Wow go science. Sounds like child abuse to me, fix a genetic mistake or illness yes, make a blond ginger really??

PS I have brown blond and ginger hair depending on the season so do not call me a anti anything.

Only in the very best way! I like big burly redheaded irish dudes, dangit. We need more of them around. They are a precious natural resource. Those vikings were ideal.

Though some of them fall more into the auburn category, but if you quibble too much over divisors between hair color, you will go insane.

There's good reason why the first femshep i ever did was a green eyed redhead, hopefully ME:A allows us to create an even better looking femPC that resembles something like these.

I still wouldn't hold your breath for long hair guys (At least ME has the military regulations excuse)

Still, better hair, hopefully.  Maybe it will even move!

It's disappointing, really. It's rather narrow-minded to have us experience the MEU from a military perspective all over again. The setting has so much potential for other archetypes. We don't need to be a soldier in order to shoot aliens in the face. Not only are we in the military, we're N7. Again. But hey, we're totally "not Shepard 2.0". So far, Bioware's done a great job of differentiating the protagonist.

While I wouldn't mind a protagonist with a different background, you can have two different characters who have the same job, but completely different personalities.

A good example of that is Captains Kirk & Picard from Star Trek.

Yeah, I agree. However, I just feel they're limiting themselves. While Picard and Kirk are different, Star Trek revolved around the Federation and its mandate of exploration (specifically the Enterprise and it's adventures during said exploration). On the other hand, I've never had the impression that Mass Effect revolved around the Alliance. I've always felt it was a setting that lent itself well to being experienced from varying perspectives/character archetypes (unfortunately we've never had the opportunity until now)

You have no idea how genetics work. This will never happen because of heterozygous advantage. That's why we still have diseases that are recessive. CF and PKU. Red hair will never vanish because it hides in the genome via recessive alleles. Talking as someone whose getting her degree in biology. You have literally no idea what you are talking about. Also red hair may have advantages in cloudy climates and northern climates. It is why they believe northern climates have the higher percentages of light hair and eyes. They have also done some research on redheads even have a different type of pain tolerance.
