Oh yeah?

You realize that a change of writers would require someone taking another's place, right?

There hasn't been a change of writers or director.

Oh yeah? (Part two)

http://www.techtimes...eft-bioware.htm

Now Killroy,

in actually reading the question in my post, it wasn't whether any writer and director personnel have left Andromeda (they have), but did anyone know what Chris L'Etoile was doing these days.

Correct replies to the actual question greatly appreciated.

Go read your post. You said they changed writers and directors. That's wrong. I wasn't answering your question, I was correcting your misinformation.

Nope.

Change is merely a different state than what existed previously.

You are referring to replacement.

Replacement is change, but change does not require replacement.

Someone leaving and not being replaced is also change.

Did you read the links I provided?

C.S (writer) and C.W. (director) have left Andromeda, according to the links. (idIgital Times and TEch Times respectively)

Are these sources incorrect?

How about you do some reading? Schlerf worked on the game for well over a year before moving on to his next game and Wynn was NOT the director. He was middle management. You are misinformed and apparently quite dedicated to staying that way.

Oh yeah? (Part three)

Am I mistaken, or is "Mass Effect Senior Development Director" not a director?

Again, in case of forgetfulness,

Please do tell.

So we have now established that a writer and a director have left Andromeda. Unless of course, the sources are wrong.

But my guess is that the sources are correct, and C.S ("Lead Writer") and C.W. ("Senior Development Director") have left.

Also, I suggest a better, more reliable detector.

Yours seems prone to explosion.

People move on.

It's not unreasonable to be concerned if a key person leaves at a critical point,

but none of us know where in the life cycle of their responsibilities/duties they were at.

The most likely impacts range from mild work delays at worst, to an energised re-focusing of the work at best.

But again, our informed insight is pretty much zero.

So other than using the information as a lens to give relief to our own established views on BioWare and the franchise,

there's very little if anything meaningful that can be determined.

This entire thread illustrates why speculation is pointless without collaborating evidence. The only facts presented are x number of staff have left Bioware. As per the reasons behind their leaving NO evidence has been presented. The entire thread is speculation and because no evidence is available no position can be shown to be correct.

The entire thread is a waste of space, and time. It provides nothing except a 'vehicle' to spew whatever agenda a poster has be it pro and against Bioware, EA or MA:A itself. Until such time as we actually have evidence as to why people have left there is nothing of substance to even suggest that anything about the game or the state of affairs.

I can see more than a few US employees wanting to return to the US after making a go of it in Montreal, where English is only the majority language in SOME parts of the city. Lots of people feel isolated when people speak a foreign language around them. Sure there are Anglophone sectors of the city but that still doesn't change the fact that you leave those areas and you walk into Francophone areas and suddenly you can't presume that you can talk to everyone using just English. And it isn't like they are going to tweet yeah had to leave Montreal because I couldn't handle being linguistically isolated because that will bring out the haters in a blink of an eye. But this might be total BS and none of them minded being in a city where English is a secondary language. Thing is we don't know which illustrates why speculation isn't worth wasting two dozen pages on.

As much as I don't have high hopes, I have to agree.

Your other statements are interesting. I was curious earlier how gaming devs in general are doing there....I didn't even think about language barriers.

The culture of Quebec is quite different as well.  A major example would be the lawsuit the Quebec government had with major retailers such as Walmart, BestBuy, Costco, and others.  The government was suing them because the company names didn't have a French translation and wanted them to create a new name in French that would describe what they would sell.  There are other things as well, but the language divide is pretty severe. There is always talk by some politician about Quebec seperating from Canada as well, but at least over the years public support has waned for that.

So as I said, people think they weren't at a critical spot in the development cycle for CS to leave.

I'm saying the duration of the cycle I expect a lead writer to stick around is beginning to after the end. Like with DAI - which I personally thought was a failure of a game but everybody else seemed to like it - Weekes constantly communicated with fans, welcomed feedback, attended events beforehand, and STUCK AROUND UNTIL TRESPASSER AND BEYOND.

None of this is happening with Andromeda. It does not feel good. It does not seem happy.

Even lead writers are not slaves or indentured servants... and like any employee there are any number of a variety of personal reasons why one individual might decide to change jobs...  and a lot of those reasons have nothing to do with being "unhappy" with the company or something dire happening within the company.

This statement of Gothfather's is right on the money and bears repeating:

Uh. My concern is not some attempt to control the lives of writers who must leave for personal reasons, nor is it a suggestion Bioware has some drama going on. It is the concern that, regardless of the motivating reasons for their departure, the resulting game quality will suffer.

That's still speculation... the resulting quality "MAY" suffer, not "will" suffer... because you don't know and I don't know the future.

Consider that wild speculation by the public can damage a company's reputation... affect its stock... even sink it.  EA could opt to sell Bioware to some other company... for better or worse.  Sometimes IPs are sold.  Business is business after all.  In this case, there are just too many variables here to even begin speculating about how a very few staff leaving might affect ME:A or any of the companies involved in it's production.

Yes, your "sources" are wrong, as you've already been told. The gaming media is terrible at it's job. Once again, smug and wrong is a bad combo. The lead writer left but was not replaced, which is a clear indication that the role of the lead writer for this project is complete. And the "Senior Development Director" is not the game's director, but I'm pretty sure you already knew that. That's a corporate BS title and Wynn was as much the director of MEA as the "Director's Assistant" is the director of a movie. There is no Junior Development Director, or just basic Development Director, meaning the title is nonsense. He was middle management, nothing more.

While I do agree that the rumors of BioWare's death are somewhat exaggerated, it would be unusual for them to hire a new lead writer for one title, especially if that title spawns a sequel or two.  Normally they seem to prefer promoting in-house writers over bringing in new ones.

Utilize your brain for a moment. David Gaider was the lead writer, whom Patrick Weekes worked under. Then Gaider left at some point before Trespasser was even being worked on and Weekes took over his duties. We know that's how the timing went because Gaider himself said that Trespasser was all Patrick's work.

What do you think happened when Chris Schlerf left? There was a gaping hole and all writing ceased? No, someone who had been working under him for at least a year took over his duties, or at least whatever remained of them.

It's literally the exact same situation. You can't say the first one was right and the second is wrong.

Once again, a writer leaving is change. Even if that writer is not replaced. And I doubt that the writing for Andromeda is complete.

As for whether or not a "Senior Development Director" is indeed a director, that was his job title, and my original post merely stated that a director left, not that the lead director left.

I'm only pessimistic because Casey Hudson is gone.

Many people might hate him, but he's the visionary of the series. It wouldn't even be here without him. i don't really care about random people leaving. It's Hudson's departure that's always made me wonder what they're even doing with this game.. other than a cash grab.

I'm willing to be proven wrong though.

I do agree they probably do have someone filling in for the position.  To me the big difference is that it hasn't been announced, but at the same time any of these announcements have come from the people directly involved and not BioWare.

Schlerf is a gun-for-hire for sci-fi games so there's nothing strange about an inexperienced studio bringing in a pro to guide the writing.

Pack it in. There are no more hairs to split. You thought the lead writer and director left and were replaced. You were wrong. Just move on. Continuing to argue in this pointless, pedantic way is doing you no favors.
