EA/BioWare really can't win can they?

Release information too early and people end up getting over hyped and speculating in the extreme.  Hold back and they whine they're not getting enough information.

Release the game too early and everyone complains they rushed it.  Hold back and give it the time it needs and some ppl start complaining they're taking too long and it's a conspiracy.

Tell me, what the hell are they supposed to do?

When DA:II released people complained because it didn't get enough time in development, same with ME3 though it also had other issues. So you would think that when a new Bioware game gets freaking 5 years of development time that people would rejoice! Wow EA is giving them room to breath and actually do stuff, but no, its end of Bioware and ME:A. My head hurts!

Me: "Calm down people, no official release date given, and unless you work for BioWare/EA you have no clue what's really going on or how far along the game is."

That's pretty much how I feel too.

Apparently they are deciding on if they will use red ,blue and green or red blue and yellow lights for the ending :)

Positive thought: If they delay, then because they want to put more polish on their product, to give us the most proper and best Bioware-Game since Dragon Age Origins!

Negative thought: They can't decicde what they cut out from the final game to sell us as DLC day one ... ^^

Ikr.  There are not enough of these for me to express myself adequately -

I just can't even.  Seriously.

I hate it when they rush out games and DA2 and ME3 illustrate why perfectly.  Giving DAI and MEA longer development time is a good thing ppl.

"More delays"? This is the first delay.

Would this even count as a delay though since a release date was never really given

It's a delay, since they did say 2016 initially, but it's a minor delay and it's the only delay thus far.

I like what CD Projekt did with 2077.

"Released when ready"

:P

More like, "we'll release it when we release it." Is any game ever truly 'ready,' eventually the game needs to be released even if you still want to change or polish it some more.

I thought they said Holiday 2016 which meant it could release in 2017 anyway

The point was that they didn't give a release date.

These days release dates are never really kept anyway..

January and February are terrible months to release games tho.

Holiday 2016 means November-December 2016.

I'm very skeptical at this point. Believe me. BioWare is going to have to do something spectacular at E3 to convince me MEA is going to be ready for a Q1 2017 release window. Otherwise, it seems BioWare Montreal may be in over their heads. It wouldn't be too surprising as this is their first project where they are the principal developer.

Honestly...I don't think they have to do anything spectacular in the end. That, of course, is the point.

Truth be told I think the game is far enough along at this point where your point on polish is the reason for a delay, they want to hammer out some of those issues that may be coming up.

True. True. I notice Uncharted 4 has also been delayed (by a couple weeks I think).

I didn't read the whole thread, so I'm sorry if someone already mentioned this, but there was no delay.

EA said ME:A would come out within their 2016 fiscal year, which is still the case.

Actually they did announce it for Holiday 2016 in their teaser trailers, which is commonly considered in North America to be Christmas (or at the most Thanksgiving to New Year). It is technically a delay, albeit a small one.

"Coming Holiday 2016 to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One."

Anyone know of a A-list Bioware game that launched on-time?

Did any of the ME or DA games hold to their original launch dates?

My guess is that none did, possibly excepting the first in each.

So delays seem the norm, with no positive or negative correlation to content.

More worrisome to me is the moving/defection/reassignment of senior personnel that have been involved. This does not bode well to me.

Also, EA stock tanked significantly following the ME3 ending fiasco, and my guess is that they don't want to re-experience that particular thrill.

Finally, MEA will be the biggest thing in any quarter it releases in, so other releases are probably being scheduled around it, not the reverse.

So, bottom line: delays are to be expected; the outflow of senior personnel is problematic; past experience means they are trying to at least meet expectations; and other games will stagger to meet ME.

Here's to hoping they deliver a magnificent, finished product.

Mass Effect 2.

Every time BioWare say anything ahead of launch,

their pronouncements are picked over like carrion and much groaning and whining commences

if anything is not subsequently 100% in line with Bioware's alpha build expectations. (Crestwoodgate anyone?)

Result?

If the release of in-development material creates so much anger, there is only one sensible answer:

For BioWare to say nothing until the game is mostly done and ready for marketing to sell those pre-orders.

Companies like CD Projekt Red gave much more information of progress on The Witcher III and what happens?

The grass isn't grassy enough, the cracks in brick walls aren't detailed enough and other incessant nit picking.

I bet they will be a little more circumspect next time.

The absence of news proves nothing, other than that the game isn't releasing in the next 4 months, which we know already.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if we hear exactly nothing until E3/EA Play.

Mass Effect 2.

That is incorrect. ME2 was supposed to release Holiday 2009. It was delayed to Q1 2010 for reasons. Other than ME1, all of the Mass Effect games have been delayed. The difference is none of them have been in development this long and we knew far more about those games by this time than we do about MEA.

They're gonna use the extra time to add multiple races and 2 extra straight race-gated option for guys.

I know you are being facetious, but there's no way they could do that amount of development in an extra three months. With how long this game has been in development, and with this extra extension, I'm sure there is plenty of romance options for everybody.
