What if races escaped extinction by fleeing, BSG-style?

So, let's say Reapers weren't beatable, and to escape total annihilation the remnants of each race escape into dark space. Or those sensible enough would, anyway. Can't imagine anything being able to make krogans flee from a fight even when they're being wiped out. (Unless you think they would? Some would be sensible enough to, of course, but how many?)

Who would escape, and how? Would the Council have it as a back up plan if everything went to hell? Or would colonies & other survivors stick together and decide to flee after all the home worlds are gone? Would different races travel together or separate from each other? If separate, to what extent? (Complete separation and no contact at all, or some contact and mutual destination points with differing routes? But how would that work if they don't have long-range communications?)

(Andromeda is gonna be about something like this, maybe? I mean at least some humans escaping to another galaxy? I haven't really paid attention to the new ME hype or promo materials since the release is a year away so I might have missed some new bits of lore.)

How would they solve the obvious problems such as fuel, food, water, economy, communication (without the comm buoys)? ME2 introduced us to GEC, but they also stated that it's expensive and rare. From the Wiki:

Each Alliance colony would maintain a QEC at its military headquarters and each fleet flagship in its CIC. All the pairs for these would be located at a central facility within Arcturus Station. During an attack, a facility would signal Arcturus to transmit its information to every other fleet and colony. However, destruction of the comm center at Arcturus would collapse the entire network.

Could they possibly save and salvage QEC... devices... and pair them up? How are they even manufactured to begin with? (From what I understand, each half is tied to each other from the very beginning due to the nature of the technology, so re-pairing one to another after their other halfs were destroyed wouldn't be possible, right? But could they have moved some pairs before Reapers got to them?)

In BSG, they, conveniently, had different kinds of ships in the fleet from the very beginning. (Food processing, mining...) In Mass Effect, we have Quarians, but otherwise the games don't introduce us to anything but military ships. And, well, the jail ship Jack is saved from. But there have to be more, right? Luxury liners, civilian transports... and what about space stations? Are space stations mobile? (I honestly don't know, don't hang me :D) I could imagine space stations growing their own food right there in space.

Speaking of Quarian, their status would probably bump up in the galactic community, what with their experience in living in spaceships and all. Would they also have the biggest fleet/population? Since their entire race is mobile and can escape the Reapers instead of most of them being stuck on a burning homeworld... unless they got to their homeworld only to be attacked and harvested by Reapers.

Maybe they would even become the most powerful race of them all? Or would they have fought and lost just as much as everyone else?
