The single-player campaign consumed me for hundreds of hours, and I was never able to dedicate much time to multiplayer. Over a year since release, what is the general consensus on it?

Single Player: 2 hours

Multiplayer:  1255 hours....so far   (based on 75min per promote) but it's probably way more due to achievement hunting and not promoting much in the beginning....

Fun gameplay.....or perhaps just addicted to promoting.

Despite the flaws you cannot fault the value for money.

Combat is much more intense than SP, and arguably harder. (We all know what it feels like in SP when you have t4 schematics and t3 materials.)

First 100hrs of MP: Dark souls difficulty
100 to 1000 hrs: SP difficulty with more enemies
1000hrs plus: dynasty warriors difficulty. As a promotion lord, you can slaughter everything on HB over and over again in no time

Multiplayer is pretty fun, especially if you find funny people using mics. I know i had a blast when I stumbled across two noobs that ended being my 'squad' for almost the entire game after prestige 300 to where i am now, ~950. It does depend on what type of person you are though, because i know i have times where i don't want to chat and times i want to chat with others. if you are more of the person that doesn't like to chat things up the game is still fun, just expect more focused gameplay, while if you like to have a laugh while playing expect many losing rounds while still having fun.

Basically get your core char stats to 15/15/15 and then decide if you wanna move forward with the game or not.

I really enjoyed the single player campaign.. and played it through to the end twice... started a third even.

The multiplayer is a different aspect and the battles are long and much for fun than the ones in the campaign though.

Once you get a group of friends to hunt with, and have to deal less with annoying people who don't understand teamplay or politeness, it is particularly more fun.

The community is getting smaller, but (and perhaps in conjunction with the fact I am now running almost entirely perilous and nightmare runs) it is appears to be getting better.  I can hardly join a public group without having someone there from my friends list now.

It is probably because you are on like 24/7? :P  Seriously, 4pm, 2 friends on.. Gekrakel is on and playing.   8pm, 6 friends on... Gekrakel is on and playing.  4am, 1 friend on, Gekrakel is on and playing......

I find the game crashes more than I like, but oh well.  MP is fun, would have been nice to have known about weekend events at time of release, I would have played it more back then instead of waiting until I had beaten the sp.  Still love it though and play at least 45 minutes a night.

The sentiments of those still bothering to post a year and a half after release and half a year after the end of game support within the game's dedicated subforum will have a certain selection bias, OP.

Having said that, I know I am not alone in my opinion that DAIMP compares unfavorably to ME3MP on many levels: technical, matchmaking, core gameplay, clarity, balance, content, support/communication and more. Considering the two games shared developer, distributor and some of the same team, and with the recent successes and lessons of ME3MP at hand, I find this game's shortcomings baffling. More importantly, given the impending release of ME:A, they should be sobering.

Shooter versus Fantasy dungeon MP ?

ME3MP compares unfavorably with DAIMP

Guess it just depends on what you like.

I don't think MEA will affect DAIMP that much if at all.

Yep.  I'm very unlikely to pick up the latest shooter game, but very likely to pick up the latest fantasy dungeon game.

I don't think I have even ever owned a shooter game past Doom 2.  And I was quickly distracted by Heretic and Hexen at that point as well.  (waaay back machine in operation there...)

ME series and DA series, both great fun. Since this is DA's first MP, it's been more fun for me. Wait! Addicted? (wipes nose on sleeves)

Single player <20 hours multiplayer >250 hours

Ive never finished the story and dont play on ever doing it. Im not much of a story person and I only bought this game after seeing the multiplayer gameplay. Theres only a handful of games that I sat through to watch the story.

Considering I never play multiplayer games - the fact that I am still playing this months after I started should be a bit of a testament to my opinion on the matter.

The multiplayer portion was going to be released as a standalone game. It really could of been sold on its own

Multiplayer Is fun, more when you have ppl to play with.

Hundreds of hours played and still fun. I finished core game in the SP but that´s it, not much fun (btw. does anyone know, if you skip all the useless side stuff in SP, can you finish a playthroug in one day? :D

It's my first RPG. SP is great. I've spent more than 200 hours on a single campaign as a 2h reaver tank Inquisitor.

After finishing SP, I've started playing multiplayer in June. Hundreds of hours. But it has so many flaws it's hard to recommend it for a friend.

The most irritating ones are the disconnects and crashs that make you loose all progress of the match.

The small player base and the fact it requires time much more than skill are other problems.

True and true, but if you make friends it gets better. If you ignore the promoting system it requires skill. I am sure a lot of the very high promoted ppl who can rock Nightmare and Heartbreaker have no Idea how to play with tactics or forgot about it, no offense ^^ no need if you kill everything with one or two hits ;)

Frustrating... Fun at times. Matchmaking is the worst I've ever seen in a game, they broke it about 6-8 months after release. It was fine before then. Also the game loves to crash at the worst times, or disconnect you, like at the last moments of a match, or when you finally get a good group. But there is some fun occasionally.
