so when do we get a thread asking for blonde afros with red highlights?
that is automatic in the pick your hair color part of the character creation. Well, maybe not the highlights, though I would prefer pink or light green.

Which country's military are you referring to?
If you're referring to the United States, you couldn't be more wrong. As far as race goes, the military is probably the most successfully integrated and color blind part of the country.
My only point of reference for this topic is a bit they did on the Daily Show a little over a year ago. The military was taking some heat for a sort of confused approach to allowable hairstyles for African American soldiers, because the rules just seemed to assume a certain ease to taming black, well afro-texture, that wasn't very realistic or practical. The gist of it was that they were approving styles that were very time consuming to achieve and forbidding ones that were more doable.
I have mixed feelings about the accusations myself, because I think that there are personal sacrifices implicit in joining the military and those are going to vary in significance from person to person, but the General that Jessica Williams interviewed about the issue did seem a little unaware of what the rules actually meant for black female soldiers on a practical level.

I somehow missed that when it was in the news, but just watched the Daily Show clip. It was a dumb policy, but I think that was probably more a case of the female hair regs being written up by someone who just didn't know better, than something intentionally racist. Speaking of not knowing any better..that would include me. I do not have a clue about black female hair care, so I can't hate on Wilford Brimley. I am slightly disappointed that he didn't claim the prohibited hair styles caused diabetes. My only point of reference for this topic is a bit they did on the Daily Show a little over a year ago. "Afro hair" and "mulatto locks"? Nah.
But I'm sure they'll have some gay hairstyles. Ah ah ah.... I know what you're going to say. Don't worry. They'll find a way. Anything for the gays. And also rest assured that you will have ample warning before you pick a gay hairstyle for those people who get some bent out of shape over the mere prospect of having a gay hairstyle by mistake. You won't get locked into it by mistake in the character creator. And, yes, there will be bi styles as well.

Jacobs' hair looked pretty good, though it was awfully short.
When I was in the Navy (back in the 80s), I remember some of the black men in my squadron had no shave chits. Apparently, the hair would start to curl before it broke the skin, and they'd end up with a lot of ingrown hairs if they shaved very often.
Anyway, I'm hoping for a nice variety of afro textured hairstyles going forward.
The troll is hungry, Han. Don't feed it c;Were you born that stupid, or do you have to work at it?

Thanks! c;O/T, but awesome custom Shep.
Hair of any sort in someone who spends a LOT of time in a space suit sounds idiotic to me.
Everyone should be BALD.

As someone who keeps his hair very much like Jacob, I find this obsessive need for afros to be..odd
They are fine but not entirely necessary, whether or not Bioware adds them or not I really couldn't care less. Though afew variety of dreadlocks or cornrows would be nice.

Did someone say...
SPACE AFROOO!?

If NBA 2K can do well textured fros and dreadlocks, then I feel that Bioware is more than capable. This is the new generation!

This thread actually has as much to do with afros as lightning has to do with the lightning bug.
"Afro-texture" refers to the way some hair grows naturally.
Dude they have personal issues with everyone's hair. They have no idea what cool hairstyles look like. They have like a four year old choose crappy hairstyles off a barber's wall. We don't need forty different versions of bald!!!!It seems that BioWare have personal issues with our hair. It makes me wonder why they didn't give people options of putting afros on Shepard, Hawke, and The Hero. Bethesda allowed afro for African Americans @ Fallout series and Elder Scrolls.
I meant it as a racial issue with BioWare. They should have multicultural writers to have an unbiased views to have diversity with gaming and not just sexually diverse.Dude they have personal issues with everyone's hair. is it because of their inborn aggression as white people they don't have good afro textures?
This is a valid concern for people such as myself. I am a black male.
I'm not. But it matters to me too. I made a Shepard about 2 months ago
I did not want him to be bald. But the game did not have a hair that matched him.
I'm not saying it is a TOP PRIORITY, but it's nice to have the option.
I would like it if my Ryder could have an afro or Michael Jackson hair. But how do you fit an afro into a helmet? Bioware is pretty accepting. They were one of the first in gaming to have LGBT romances. I don't believe it's a race thing. It's always about race. Jeez. I'm Hispanic but you don't see me complaining about no sombreros.I meant it as a racial issue with BioWare. What in God's name are you blabbering about? #1: Only Black people born with nappy wooly hair, and we're the only people who can have afros. And there's discrimination against those who have afro, braids or dreadlocks in schools and jobs. As a matter of fact Barbados once outlawed anyone to wear their natural hair so they want all men should be bald and women should have pressed or perm hair.is it because of their inborn aggression as white people they don't have good afro textures?
