I would rather have the Inquisitor return for DA4

Not sure why everyone is convinced that Solas is the antagonist of the next game.    The end of Trespasser made it pretty clear that the Qun will have to be dealt with first.

If we do go to Tevinter, I would think there is more than enough already between the reformation of Tevinter and the Qun to make the next game.    Solas is long lived and patient.   I doubt he is going to rush right into this plan of his.    The last time he did that he didn't exactly turn out the way he hoped.

If I was an immortal being, I would certainly lay low for awhile and let my enemies that know of my existence to die out before proceeding with the 'plan'.

...I suppose it's the part where the Inquisitor's stabs the map in Tevinter and then says something like," We will try to save our friend from himself."

Patrick Weekes stated that if greenlighted the next Dragon Age game will conclude Solas' story.

"Wrap up the Inquisitor's Story" "Conclusively tie off this protagonist"

So that settles that. Quizzy's story is finished.

It doesn't matter anyway, since BioWare isn't going to see this thread, since they don't read the forums anymore (unless they're lurking in the shadows... watching us... o_o).

Weeeeeeell:

it is that it is usually a bad idea for creators to visit online forums discussing them and their work. It doesn't lead to happy ends.

This is why big, smart companies with actual budgets hire community people who do nothing but deal with and sift through forums. Managing fans is real work, and picking out the realistic and worthwhile comments takes a ton of time and judgment. That is why smart companies put a layer between the fans and the creators.

So beware what you write: the NSEA may be watching :bandit:

Pass. I spent enough time with the Inquisitor that I'm willing to let them go. I'd like to try a new race and a new class, and perhaps a new romance.

This may not be exactly what you mean, but you could play DA4 as the Inquisitor and still try a new class, race, and romance. The Keep would make this especially easy.

That doesn't a) require that Solas be the main antagonist and B) similarly, doesn't require the "Inquisitor" to be the main (or a) protagonist.

Remember, DA:I and Trespasser both developed the story with Solas despite him not being an antagonist at all in either game.

So that settles that. Quizzy's story is finished.

I don't think Bioware understands how to wrap up stories.

I wouldn't do that even if it were theoretically possible. Once I've established a canon character, I'm committed to it.

No, I'm fully on board with creating a new PC.

I really don't want another "mage-templar war" scenario.

That's for sure. I wonder if this means that they are definitely discarding the inquisitor or if that was their original intent and it changed? y u do dis 2 me biowaer? :crying:

I think they dropped that story for very different reasons (i.e., DA2 reception).

Look at how DA:O potentially ends - Flemeth/Mythal & Morrigan potentially use you like a puppet, and your recourse is ... to do absolutely nothing while they are all out there. And then, with the sequels greenlight, the way they handled Witch Hunt...

I honestly think "conclusion" for Bioware means wrapping up whatever they think the appropriate arc is for the character, without regard as to whether it actually feels like the character "retires".

Has anyone tried tweeting Patrick Weekes to ask straight out 'does this mean that any eventual DA4 will have a new protagonist?'

I mean, not that I'd expect a straight answer, but even if BioWare equivocate it would be interesting to see exactly how they phrase it. (And since we're deep in the long dark between games with no actual news on the horizon, I for one could use something to chew over while we wait.)

They pretty much confirmed it by saying Trespasser was the end of the Inquisitor's story. With them not it and the Warden and Hawke potentially dead, there is no other option but a new person as a protagonist.

The other important point here is that Bioware does not buy in at all to a lot of players view that the relationships to recurring NPCs is dependent on it being their being exposed to the same PC, rather than simply the player having a relationship with the NPC.

I honestly hated when they did that with Shepard in Mass Effect

That hasn't worked out well in the past. I don't know why they expect it to work well now.

Well I'm fine with it, because my relationship with recurring NPCs isn't dependent of returning PCs

Yeah, the one good thing about Trespasser for me is gone now. Good to know it wasn't only a waste of money but a waste of money that ruined the rest of the game.  <_<

I disagree. It's worked out fine. But this is a matter of taste. You either believe it or you don't.

I'm happy for you. I mean that sincerely.

But for me, having a connection to a character like say Leliana only for my character to see them as a stranger just creates a disconnect.

What's the one good thing about Trespasser?

The storytelling potential of being the Inquisitor again.

I'm in sort of  disbelief , you can't have the pc being told this is the end of the world all over again , have said pc claim he/she will do something about it , then get rid of the hand , think "here we go we wrapped up the story of this pc" , and then to add on top of it "Jeez people no it has nothing to do with the missing hand , we're supportive of people with a handicap."

I mean the hand being chopped is the only thing putting the Inquisitor in a forced retirement storywise because the narrative is pushing said pc to not stand idle.

The level of dishonesty just to appear politically correct is just starting to grind my gear slowly but surely.

At this point I don't even care about the Inquisitor returning , it annoys me it went this way in Trespasser , but I'd like the dev to be honest. They tried to get rid of the Inquisitor , fine by me.Getting rid of the mark was a good idea imho, but they also tried to sequel bait and build up the future antagonist still using the Inquisitor to get the player emotionally invested in the story.

I can understand why again but it doesn't mean in the grand scheme of thing it's a good thing.

And here I went again , I hope it's the last time I rant mindlessly about this , I'm annoying myself at this point.

It's suppose to create a disconnect, they are meeting someone new
