Would the people who want a smaller squad be happy with a larger squad if it meant getting races/genders we've never had on our squad before, like a female Drell or a Batarian?
How many squadmates do you want?

^ Yup me too.
I want a smaller squad this time and they should alllllll be under my command, doing everything I tell them to! I need to be able to control and lead them all ![]()

I would sooner have less, well done more rounded characters in my squad, than say 10 rubbish ones.

If this would be the case, I can raise my number from 6-7 to 8-9 or even 10.Would the people who want a smaller squad be happy with a larger squad if it meant getting races/genders we've never had on our squad before, like a female Drell or a Batarian?
12 was too much. Talking to everyone took too long
Of course, ME2 has only 8 mandatory squadmates. Kasumi and Zaeed are DLC characters and you can avoid recruiting them, Grunt can stay in the tank and Legion can be sold or just never activated. Still, for a completionist like myself not recruiting them was not an option .

6, really not interested in a large squad after ME2 and DAI

I think 7 is a good number, not too big of a number but not too small either.

I'd go for six, with a seventh secret squad member.

6-8 would be nice. Anything more than that and it ends up being like ME2 when you have to cover every inch of the ship to make sure you've handled everyone's personal quests and haven't missed their dialog.

Indeed. Having recently played through the trilogy again, I think ME2 had too many squadmates. I guess it serves the suicide mission since there needed to be room for choices and possible casualties but in general the large roster made the game a bit cumbersome. Not to mention, I really disliked how Legion (one of my favorites) only joins you at the very late part of the game when the countdown is already ticking, giving you limited time to get to know him or use him in your squad.
I think 6 or 7 members would be a happy medium. Enough to offer variety but not too many to make it a hassle. I'm all for quality over quantity anyways so I would rather see them focus on creating well rounded characters who fit the plot instead of trying to collect as many variables as possible in order to offer "something for everyone".

Or, every single person on the Ark.

Nope, we're going full on Chrono Cross on this one. 45, minimum.
Or, every single person on the Ark.
I like the way you think, buddy. Make it so, BW.

Am the only one that loved how big the ME2 gang was.
It was literally a small badass army, felt like justice league.
I would love for there to be about 10 members.
But everyone else seems to want about 6 ![]()

I think 6 sounds terribly restrictive. While i agree with view that Me2's twelve was slightly over egging it, i think there's room in the middle 8/9 mark.

6 minimum (preferred)
9 max (I can live with it)
Although with DA:I I found myself essentially creating 3 teams and rarely if ever bothering to change them.
Team 1 is my main team (Sera, Dorian, and Iron Bull) the ones I use 95% of the time.
Team 2 is my secondary team (Varric, Cassandra, and Solas) basically used before I can recruit Sera, Dorian, and Iron Bull. They are used because I have to use them.
Team 3 is my never used team (Vivienne, Blackwall, and Cole) I only use them if have to use them and most of the time they stay and guard Haven and/or Skyhold. Come to think of it outside of Cole's "loyalty" mission and the few times I sided with the Templars I don't think I have ever used Cole in the field.

Mass Effect 2 had way too many squadmates. If they were fully fledged characters, played key roles in the story, had less generic lines on missions, etc. I'd consider it. Alas, 6-8 seems to be a more realistic number of companions.

Actually, it would be interesting if we choose squadmates from Ark population, who in turn have randomized class, background, appearance, personality traits. Then we have a different squad every time. I believe Mandate is doing something like that for ship crew and officers.
While I admittedly no nothing about programming, I think it wouldn't be a great strain on resources, either. Having like 4 or 5 personality types per gender of ARK passenger, with a voice for each, would be about on par with number of voiced companions/advisors/shipmates in the traditional BW system. Each VA could then voice recruitment dialogues, typical banter, romance scenes, etc.

6 max. Make it like the first Mass Effect were every squadmate represented a different one of the players 6 class choices.
