Is there a guide to Focus mechanics anywhere?

That's why I was asking for the actual numbers.

AFAIK, there aren't any, if you mean numbers like how much focus is gained for each attack type under which conditions.
<guesswork>
It should be proportional to damage per hit, though it probably has a max cap. Since there are FT Masterworks that give buffs like "30% focus gain", that has to be based on something.
</guesswork>
You could be the first to discover and write up your test results .... but personally I'd just layer on all the focus gain buffs and live with uncertainty. ![]()

I'm not certain damage per se has any effect on Focus gain. Looks like it's based on kills only, and scales up with the level of the dead opponent. XP gain from the kill isn't necessary - killing a L1 fennec will still get you 1 Focus, for whatever that's worth.
Combo focus awards, meanwhile, don't seem to scale up; they stay in the 1-2 point range. I'm not certain that Inquisitor ability point is worth spending.

I went ahead and did a little preliminary work.

A promising start!
What about FT Masterwork focus gain buffs? "Gain 30% Focus" and "7.5% focus for each nearby enemy" makes no sense if it's not based on damage. Unless you get 1.3 focus for a kill? Or maybe it boosts the "level of the opponent" effect. That would make sense.

Looks like the +30% bonus grants the bonus it's supposed to. I'll have to check another Quizzy's saves to find the right mats to check the 7.5 per enemy type. Or do a bit of grinding, but let's hope it doesn't come to that.
One really odd thing: with that +30% bow equipped my Inquisitor gained Focus faster, but the companions gained Focus even faster than she did. I need to whip up some more for the whole party and see what happens.

Looks like Focus awards for kills are based on relative level, not absolute level. Points drop off severely if the enemy was below your level. I think there's a second breakpoint a few levels below that. So in the late game you're only going to get 1 Focus per kill in the non-DLC zones, though of course it won't really matter since you won't need those abilities anyway

Interesting.
Do you think it's related to how XP is calculated? Because XP also has a relative cutoff. XP also is "paid" only on a kill.
