Interactions Between ME:A's new squad and crew like in ME3

One of the new things I liked in ME3, was that members of the squad and crew could be seen interacting with each other during the inter mission lulls on the Normandy, those intercom conversations, the meetups like Liara and Garrus catching up in the lounge, Kaidan and James playing poker, and Garrus and James engaging in friendly banter on the crew deck.

To me it really created a greater sense that these characters were friends with each other, and didn't just have friendships and relationships with Shepard. The bonds felt stronger, and it made doing the rounds of the Normandy after every mission fun to do, at least for me anyways.

I would love it if this feature was implemented in ME:A on the new ship, between the new squad and crew, forming friendships with each other and not just us as the player, being seen to do more other than working diligently at their respective posts. A feature like this would seem to me to be an easy and added boost to forming attachments and engagements with the characters outside of our own normal interactions with them.

Interested to see what other people would think about this  :)

I also apologize if this has already been previously discussed in another thread.

Yes and no. I think it made sense for a lot of companions in ME3 because they had known each other for multiple games. It wasn't unreasonable to believe the time they spent together and their various adventures led to them forming bonds between each other and hanging out in their off time.

Andromeda is going to be an entirely new cast and crew, so I wouldn't necessarily want to see this kind of feature prominent from the start. It also depends on the setting, tone, and why we are tasked with exploring the galaxy. What I think would be interesting is if how we led our crew changes their disposition. If we rule with an iron fist, people are less likely to converse while off duty and just lounge around. If we are more considerate and see our crew as equals, then maybe we can get a bit of what we were seeing in ME3.

I just don't believe that feature could be fully realized unless this game were to be part of a trilogy that continues to build upon these relationships. I'm not against its inclusion, but it needs to make sense with the game and fit into the overall experience.

Would be very cool to see the crew building a relationship with each other and interacting differently in the course of the game.

I only felt that in the first game the only other interactions between the squad outside of cutscenes and missions was those elevator rides. Awkwardly getting to know each other, express admiration or resolve at another's powers or capabilities. I think seeing this happening on the ship, or whatever setting, among the new cast would be neat and make for a more richer narrative.

I can see benefits of having crew interacting again across the ship. The nature of it may be different as they may well be a new bunch of people flung together but then some of them may have served together.

What i wasn't a particular fan of was the degree to which conversations with the crew became dominated by the click and get a line of dialogue variety rather than the interactive conversations involving the dialogue wheel.

While it could potentially be another strain on resources, having animated interactive dialogue scenes with the dialogue wheel would be more preferable to the point and click feature. I especially felt this with Zaeed and Kasumi in ME2, but it wasn't as big as a deal for me with ME3 since all squadmates had this other than post-mission conversations that usually end up with you getting a squad members bonus power.

Of course, it's not like those one-liners replaced wheel-driven conversations. They were added on top of the wheel convos.

The one-liners had two advantages. They permitted reactions to all of the individual missions, and they permitted us to bypass pointless wheel interactions where the NPC had nothing new to say. I'm not saying that I necessarily want the one-liners back, but I do want to keep those things. Although the first may be prohibitive depending on how ME:A classifies "missions."

The line of dialogue is just a much faster way to let the player know a new scene wasn't available yet. It's vastly superior to clicking the menu option and having the character say the same line of dialogue every single time to let the player know they are busy.

Well i'm not saying all one liner responses are bad but i do think the scale of their use is very problematic. There were clearly times where a lack of ability to react to what they are saying was a problem imo.

Perhaps they could still interact, but we could see a change in tone as the game progresses. At the start, it could be more work-related chat or perhaps conflicts like Miranda/Jack and Tali/Legion in ME2. Later on some of them might develop more of a friendship. I think this was seen somewhat in DA2 with the party banter, since the three act structure broke them up.

Isabela and Aveline were a great example. At the start, it was mostly Aveline disapproving of Isabela's crimes and general behaviour. Sometimes she seemed to be trying to catch Isabela out, like a good guard. Meanwhile Isabela mostly just taunted her for fun. By the end of the game, their banter is very friendly (with a lot of teasing) and Aveline's inviting Isabela to wedding parties and all sorts. So I think there's plenty of room for companion relationships to develop.

Though even in ME1 there were opportunties for communication, even if the crew rarely followed through. Tali and Addams had a shared interest in engineering. Ashley expresses sympathy for Liara after Benezia's death. Ashley and Kaidan clearly develop a friendship quickly. Liara, Joker and Kaidan have medical visits to Chakwas. Then of course, there's the famous lift conversations. If we got to see that kind of stuff in-game, rather than hearing about it, it would form a good basis for the crew to build relationships with each other.

This seems like a silly thing, but it would be nice to see someone else other than the player protagonist moving around the ship visiting the different areas. I know the ME characters all had different duties and their own rooms and everything on the different Normandys, I would just be interested in seeing different parts of the ship be utilized by the squad and crew, and not just us as the players controlling the protagonist.
