If you were like me, having trouble with the Auto Login to EA but can log in fine manually, try the following:
Go to C:\\Users\\[your profile]\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Profile
Delete (or move to another place) Player1.prf

Start the game. It should ask for your EA login and password and now remember it correctly.

I hope this helps.

(I assumed people have installed this game on their C drive, if not, go to the corresponding drive. Or else do a search for the file)

[edit: This deletes all your achievements, so use at own risk]

I wouldn't recommend people to delete a file.
Guys, make a backup copy first in case anything goes wrong, Murphy's law is an absolute...
EDIT: I did backup the file and tried the trick so I just let you guys know that doing this will reset your key bindings (those not using a qwerty keyboard on an english version of the game may want to know that before getting into the action) and it does also reset all achievements (locally I suppose, but I guess it's also uploaded to bioware at some point). That's what I noticed in the few minutes I played to try it.

Its not uploaded to Bioware at all. ME2 doesnt have an online component like DA does.

I didn't use any keybindings so hadn't noticed that, nor the missing achievements. :pinched:That... sucks. Seems my solution ruins more than it fixes. Sorry guys.

Maybe some supra-genius hacker type can figure out how to "edit" the .prf file. Some clever folks have worked on other stuff and gotten it fixed. Maybe the problem this whole time has been with the .prf file.

You can just unlock all the acheivements again using the console (or a custom binding in Coalesced.ini).

Thanks, that just fixed my problems as well. I was getting tired of having to relogin in every time I launched the game. I don't care so much about the achievements. I'll probably getting them all again :D

Is there not a way to get auto-login to work, without deleting a file and losing all your achievements?  Or editting a file that shouldn't need to be editted?

Like so many of you, I was getting the error with the auto login but was able to log in manually. I found a way to make it work without doing anything to the files. Here is what I did:

Step 1: Logged in manually.

Step 2: Went into Extras-->Options-->Online in the game menu and disabled Auto Login.

Step 3: Exited the game completely.

Step 4: Restarted the game.

Step 5: Logged in manually again.

Step 6: Went into Extras-->Options-->Online in the game menu and turned Auto Login back on.

Step 7: Exited the game completely.

Step 8: Restarted the game, and it logged in automatically without any problems.  My achievements/bindings were still intact.

I hope that helps others, as well!

Above post fixed my problem after months of trying to figure it out. Thanks!

Edit:  Like the others, stopped working a short while later.

Easy fix, open command prompt, type "ipconfig /flushdns". This will flush the DNS cache on your computer, worked instantly for me.

I actually tried this.  And it worked!  For a time.  Then stopped working.  It seems the "time out" part of the error message is the more relevent in cases like mine.

@Lone Sausage: Whoa...it effing worked, man. Awesome. Now, if it'll stay working, that's the question.

I've had it revert to a non-working state with another fix that "seemed to work" at first. Will post back if it stops. Thanks!

Yep, as expected, it just reverts back to the "Communication interrupted..." bull again. Thanks for the attempt, mi amigo.

@Baramon: The DNS cache fills up pretty quick, and as soon as you get a bad entry you'll have to do it all over again. Clearing the cache is definitely not a permanent fix, but it should work long enough for you to do what you have to do on there

I was hoping for a fix that would stick. :(

I've always been able to log in manually, so this is just a different way of accomplishing the same thing.  Unless... I guess I could batch file it and set it to flush the dns cache each time...

But, since logging into the Cerberus Network is pointless anyway, unless I've updated some DLC or other something, then it's not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. I'm completely happy with an otherwise 99.99% perfect game.

Tried everything the tread suggests every time I open mass effect 2 before I even get to a stage in which it tells me to log in the Mass Effect 2 server was interrupted or has timed out. :/
Any other ideas?

I am with Baramon, I can still manually log in and it still works. For the record, I have also tried everything. I think we can chalk this up to EA going to this new Origin system since it seems to have messed up this one thing. More to the point, I am no longer going to worry about it takes like ten seconds to log in to one of the best games that I have had the pleasure of playing.

I'm having the same error and, like GrumpyGit, I receive the error immediately after I press a key at the title screen prompt to "press any key" -- there is no opportunity to manually log in or edit settings. I've been heading in circles with the EA customer service reps, with no success at fixing this. Any guidance would be appreciated.

You should get an error screen in that case.  Click the button on it and then wait.  It takes it a little while to go back to the main menu, at which point you can change your setting and login manually.

Hi are these fixes/ troubleshooting tips applicable to the xbox as well? Or are they PC specific? I'm having this issue for a month now.

Best ask that in the Tech Forum dedicated to Xbox360 questions, I think.
