Weirdest problem I've ever seen, but I've finally gotten it (mostly) resolved. I have several applications and games which require the internet or connecting to remote servers to use, and Mass Effect 2 was literally the only one with a problem. I tried switching to a different router, didn't work. Tried restarting my main one, didn't work. Finally completely reset the wireless router to factory defaults using the pen sized button on the back... set the security back up and somehow it now works. Still can't register my game though, but that's minor compared to what was going on.

Do you have a modem? If you do, it may be worth a try to reset that.

Hi all. For me it was also related to an obscure internet speed tweak that seems to disable EA's sites. Here's the solution I found (works for Vista and Win 7):

1) Click start, go to 'All Programs', then 'Accessories', look for 'Command Prompt'.

2) Right-click on Command Prompt, click on 'Run As Administrator', if you get a security prompt, just choose continue or allow.

3) in command prompt, type, "netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=disabled".

4) Exit Command prompt, and your game should be working.

This applies to any EA game that attempts to connect to an EA profile online. I'm very curious WHY it has this effect.

Hope it helps!

I tried doing the command prompt and Cerberus still didn't work for me.

I still keep getting "Error.  Communication with Mass Effect 2 server was interrupted or has timed out.  Try again later"  Posted Image

Hello, I've same problem.

I search about command of Jenyar and I found these in complement :

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled

netsh interface tcp set global congestionprovider=none

netsh interface tcp set global ecncapability=disabled

Maybe the use of all of them helps someone.

But not for me ...

If you are otherwise able to maintain an internet connection (as in: you are able to connect to the internet with a browser), then you may have something like PeerGuardian/PeerBlock running which is blocking the Cerberus connection.

I have to turn off PeerBlock to be able to connect to Cerberus, otherwise I get a "timeout" message.

It is possible to add an exception to PeerBlock (whitelist) to allow the Cerberus connection, but it's just simpler to turn it off.

Had been having precisely the same timeout problem, Avira was automatically denying Mass Effect 2 without prompting me. Set it to allow, fixed immediately.

I own the normal ME2 disc version and I have exactly the same problem. As soon as I try to connect to the internet via the Cerberus network (within the game) I get the following message:

Error

Communication with the Mass Effect 2 server was interrupted or has timed out.
Please try again later.

I have no anti-virus software installed and the only "desktop" firewall that is running is the one of Windows 7, which is running just "as is", meaning I haven't made any changes to my network configuration. I am behind a separate firewall. But even connecting directly to the internet doesn't help.

I'm unable to authenticate the DLC due to this problem and the only way I can play the DLC that was coming with the game is to use a crack.

This is really annoying; not only that the DLC adds DRM to the game, which isn't working. But also the fact that I have to use a crack for a game that I rightfully own.

i have the issue with the timoeouts.... even after adding the ports to the forwarding list of my router that was explained in the readme... i do not have the issue of the login not coming up as if u hit ok it is supposed to navigate u to the login screen again.. although ive noticed if i minimize the game and try to use internet explorer or any other web based program it resets the connection a few times before it works...which could perhaps be why it is not connecting to the ea server properly.. furthermore i have this same issue with bfbc2 as it takes a few tries to login to EA... it likely is not related to a firewall or antivirus in my case because i have turned them all off to eliminate them as a cuase.. i also connected directly to the internet via modem (not shared thru router) and still no dice..if i try several times when i get this error it eventually works.. though i have not found any solution otherwise..

I had the same problem, untill I tried these.. I.. I really owe you.. Because it worked just fine for me. But it seems a bit wierd, all of us.. Or at least me, played the game two days ago, but earlier it just wouldn't work.. I can't imagine it has anything to do with any of our systems.. It has to be EA or something...
My OS has not updated since i last played so it can't be that.. But hey, what do I know..

Anyways.. Thank you so much, I would hug you if you were here!

I just got this message myself, and I have been playing for daaays now without running into this issue. Is the servers maybe down currently? Or is there something else going on that I should know?

Same problem here as above. Was working fine two days ago. No go today.

I'm a little tentative trying any of the above solutions without knowing what they do or how they could affect other applications. Hoping for a solution from BioWare/EA's end.

edit: I should have noted.  The only reason I'm not playing without connecting is because I have heard that save game corruption issues can result from this.  Can anyone confirm this?

I started having the same problem today, after playing the game for over a week.

No idea what might have caused it since my pc configuration did not change compared to yesterday (when it still worked).

Bioware, help us out here.

Well, it suddenly started working again (I'm sure it wasn't an issue with my pc, since browsing and other online games still worked). Whoohoo!

WEll I managed to redeem one code online . It was the preorder code. Trying to redeem my cerberus code and CE armour and it tells me the codes are invalid.
