The part about you not liking there being non-companion LIs.

As for the things you like about companion LIs, I see no reason that those can't happen with non-companion LIs other than the battle couple thing. Especially in games like Mass Effect where we have communicators.

I'm not totally against per se, it's just that the things I listed seemed like a companion would be better. Although, now that you made me think about it, I could totally get behind romancing the pilot of the ship... What about non-companion romances do you find appealing? Is it just the fact that they can be non-combatants?

And you're right that they could in theory have all of those things except for the Battle Couple one. If done right, non-companions would still have plenty of scenes with other characters, get proper reactions from others regarding the romance, and at least in ME, chime in on missions via radio. In fact, now I'll be disappointed if our resident pilots/science officers/communications specialists don't talk to us and banter with the squad while on away missions.

Instead of just sitting around and waiting for you to romance them, two of your companions should be together from the start of the game.

Male human and female Qunari would be fun to see, ike Balthier and Fran from FF12.

Here to support FF12!

Oh and the idea sounds fine I suppose =-)

Have you watched any of them? There's a Cass Romance video that is over an hour. Big chunks of it are the Inquisitor running through areas and Skyhold. The length of the videos on Youtube mean basically nothing. The Josephine videos are padded, and they are still just five minutes longer than the shortest videos (Iron Bull's compilations seem to be the only one that is consistent shorter than Josie's.)

Sure there's going to be non-companion Romances. But they should be extras. LGBT players were not as a whole pleased that the new gay/lesbian exclusive LIs were both non-companions. Kelly Chambers exists in an eternal state of being and not being considered a real LI... because she's not a companion. It matters to people.

That's not why I don't count her as a "real LI".  It's because she doesn't offer the paramour achievement.  At least in ME2.  I don't count anyone who doesn't offer the romance achievements.  To me, that is the best indicator of what the devs consider a 'real romance' versus a flirt/fling.  Kelly doesn't count in ME2, but she does count in ME3 so I include her in the list of Shep romances (for both maleShep and FemShep).  Diana, Samara, Vega, Javik, etc don't count.

And no one really discounts Steve and Samantha as "real LI's".  People are disappointed with the fact that the only gay LI's (versus bisexual) are both NPCs who only show up in the final game, but I don't remember seeing people say that they don't count just because they're NPCs.  And people certainly count Josephine and Cullen as "real LI's" and they are both NPCs as well.

Can he (Hawke) pimp (be a matchmaker for) his companions?

Isabella and Fenris get together if neither of them are with Hawke. Carver has a crush on Merril.

Shepard was more of a "pimp". You could get EDI and Joker together, set the scene for Ash and Vega, and of course Tali and Garrus at the end of ME3.

Since the Inquisitor can get Dorian and Iron Bull together, and Blackwall and Josephine, that means three recent Bioware games had it. Will be interesting to see if it's in Andromeda.

And Bethany had a thing for Sebastian.

That is a factor, though I have loved romances that involved companions as well. If I had to pick one reason, it's because it opens a floodgate of possibilities for stories they can tell and open new ways for them to tell familiar stories that can't be done or can't be done as well with a squadmate.

Exactly.

If having two of the companions be in a relationship together feels a bit too much to someone maybe we could do a companion involved with an NPC for example one squad mate could be a companion and one could work a the main hub and in between missions or times you aren't using them they could be seen helping or hanging out with their spouse or even have a tender 'take care of yourself out there' exchange before a really dangerous mission or a conversation at the hub when they're just hanging out together. Granted all that could be done with two companions/followers/squadmates as well of course.

I would like a companion being in a relationship with a person we never meet, like a soldier being away from home on a tour of duty or a mercenary making money so his/her family have a better life. They'd write home occasionally, and if asked, will mention that they can't wait to get back once this is all over.

After the main quest victory, they stay briefly for the celebration and head home the next morning, never to cameo again. Or they disappear without a word, and the protagonist finds a torn up dear John letter in their quarters.

Well, in a sense, we already had that with Vivienne.

Yeah, Vivienne was a good first step. It made her feel more real to me as opposed to those attractive people who are all single until the protagonist happens along.

I don't see the point of having a companion that has a love we never see. That's the same thing we are getting now with companions except they have dialogue that says "i'm taken and she's waiting for me"

No thanks.

Did someone mention Steve? He's bae. For real For real. I will always defend mai husbando.

As daveliam (hey long time no post ;) ) said, it wasn't that they were npc's and not squaddies, it's that BOTH of the homosexual characters were relegated to ship status AND made their debut in the last game.

But the fact that both of them aren't Squadmates did matter. Otherwise that would not have been a complaint.

And yet Bioware did it again with Cullen and Josephine, and possibly again in future games

Obviously those complaints matter to Bioware

That remains to be seen. Bioware tends to listen to their customer base going into the future. BSN rolls it's collective eyes over people being disappointed about LIs, but no one knows how of those complaints Bioware has internalized.

By that logic they would've done it already with DAI

Face it, NPC romances are gonna stay despite how some of BSN always complain about it

Why would they complain? what's the problem with your LI not traveling with you 24/7?

After Anders, Carver is my favorite DA2 character. Both of them can be complete jerks.

I don't mind that companions/NPCs can hook up if you don't romance them but I make sure I sabotage relationships I don't like. Maybe they still get together in the end, behind the scenes, but at least I don't have to hear about it.  :P
