I've made a post on this before, but I feel it's worth going over again. Here is what ME2 and ME3 missed:

Spoiler

That, I would say, is what made ME1 really shine, in spite of such issues as the half-baked Mako and the rudimentary gameplay mechanics. Scouting the galaxy actually felt like exploration in that game, something the later installments of the series failed to deliver.

Hope to see that again this time. For science. For SPACE!

That's just one of the reasons why ME1 is still my favorite of the series!

You missed the view of earth from Luna (even though they flipped it). :)  Still the best moment in the whole trilogy for me.

I think with the vast graphics improvements of the past several years... we're in for a treat!

I didn't take a huge number of screenshots of ME1... but I did have a couple I really liked for the atmosphere:

There was a lot of really cool scenery in the game. I agree the fact that the game is next-gen has seriously amazing implications.

I thoroughly enjoy gazing down at Terra Nova from the little radio transmitter that played muzak.

Agreed when I think about ME this is the first thing that comes to my mind. This and great synth music.

Overall ME1 remained my favorite game because of the atmosphere combined with its retro sci-fi vibe and music.

I hope Andromeda will go more towards sci-fi novel and less Michael Bay type action game.

My favorite ME1 planet Amaranthine

And yes, I want to see more of that, but better. Provide wildlife, provide amazing vistas and interesting natural formations - like arches, caverns, mountains et cetera. I don't just want an emptyish landscape for me to drive my Mako over.

I liked looking at Earth from the moon. Seeing the best looking planet in the universe with the best species in the universe. Earth will be missed in the next game.  My main character will have a poster of the planet in the cabin.

I'm sure there will be some nice looking planets in Andromeda, but nothing like Earth

Do Not Want!!!!

I did like the scenery in ME1, but I do have to say there wasn't actually much to discover in exploration. It would be a mineral, data disc, medal, etc. I'd like the exploration aspect if there were actually something interesting to find.

Maybe instead of having the Hackett style missions broadcast to us, we'd have to find them ourselves.

Mostly what I remember about the UNC worlds is the utter pointlessness of going to them. Actually, they're counterproductive, RP-wise.

Hopefully they start by fixing this part. And then do the bit vbibbi mentioned. And then get to the looks.

Everyone complained about the empty maps in ME1, and yeah it was an issue. But thematically they felt authentic. Barren, uninhabited lonely places that I still felt compelled to see. To have some of the planets in Andromeda be like that, except with a few more hidden secrets, would help the world building immensely.

I asked for this pre-ME2 and pre-ME3 too as did a load of others(Fiery Phoenix included), but we didn't get it.

Whether or not I play the next game I hope its there for players of Andromeda. ME1 definitely felt the best as far as exploration went. Those vistas, uncharted worlds, they were awesome.

The "uncharted worlds" of ME2 and ME3 felt like they were inhabited and didn't have any of the cool views of space, satellites, planets, and such when looking up into the sky. The colors of ME1 on those worlds, they were lacking in 2 and 3. The close up views of the worlds from the galaxy map, those were gone too. I think it'd be best if the use of those colors, the views, the stories behind them, all that came back.

To be fair ME3:Leviathan brought i bit of planet exploration back, Despoina was a nice surprise....
