I don't even remember much from Leviathan and I played it. I remember some of the UNCs from ME1 though.

ME3 did improve on it. ME2 was the worst offender. I remember landing on Omega, thinking this place will be awesome to explore! Then I pulled up the map...

I agree exploring the planets and seeing the views was a great part of ME1. Replaying it last summer and seeing how pretty the skyboxes looked was refreshing. Since ME:A is supposed to be all about exploration and a new galaxy, I would image they would have exploring be a big part of the game.

Menae and Palaven in particular.

*snip*

ME3 certainly improved on this aspect in some ways, but it was still far from satisfying. I'm really hoping the exploration is top-notch this time. Fingers and toes crossed!

Part of me wants return of this so badly, but more sane part knows I'll be constantly distracted if this happens.

...

I don't listen to sane part.

Menae and Palaven in particular.

One of my favourite locations of ME3.

Whoa. I honestly didn't remember ME1 planet landscapes looked that good. I don't want all the planets to look like these but they are essential in giving that sense of empty, cold space so when you stumble upon a lush jungle planet you really appreciate it.

I'll never forget the first time I landed on the planet Amaranthine, the purple and blue twilight colors of that planet were mesmerizing. It was such an incredibly atmospheric place.

Also, the planet Altahe with its stormy environment and oppressively dark sky, it made me feel a sense of loneliness and dread.

I truly hope Andromeda can fill me with a similar sense on wonder.

I try to keep any foreboding, uninformed, myopic, or otherwise unduly entitled expectations for a product I've absolutely no contribution to making to myself. Mainly due to my own revulsion when I read it, but also because there is an overabundance of entitled ingratitude all over this forum already.

That said, I'm really hoping for robust and exhaustive planetary exploration this time around. It was traded off for a far more rewarding combat experience in the sequels, and I'll make no argument about that being a wise trade, but I'll admit it was the planetary exploration in the first game that really set the hook for me with Mass Effect. The first time I touched down on a new world was a definitely a "Holy ****, I'm Captain ****ing Kirk" moment for me.

I'm using the word hope because the more accurate descriptor for my feeling, expect, is a level of entitlement, I'm not at all comfortable with using. The only thing I can reasonably expect is for the devs to do their best to make the game that they want to make be the best game that they can make. I've enjoyed the results so far so I'm very hopeful that trend continues.

However. The setting does lend itself to the experience of exploration. A lone vessel of the best and brightest remaining of a burning Milky Way on a one way trip to an entirely alien galaxy with the hopes of galactic civilization resting on their shoulders. Unless they are leaving the frying pan and inadvertently jumping into the fire, they should be very interested in getting the lay of the land so to speak.

Still, if exploration doesn't play a significant role, well if the rest of the game is great, like ME2 & ME3, my disappointment at its absence won't keep me from enjoying it.

 *snip awesome view*

I really do want them to do away with the 'toy planets' we got in ME2 and 3, and I've mentioned this multiple times in the past.

OP i agree just in part with u.

yeah exploration was cool on ME 1 but it was repetitive as hell. And make it bored after the 3 planet u go. Everything look the same.

IF they add more diverse environments to explore on ME A i will be happy.

ME 1 was good, but right now i been doing a replay of the trilogy and OMG ME 1 become bored after landing on the same looking planet with a different color tint. I want to kill someone when i enter the same cave or complex that look the same over and over. LOL

ME 2 and ME 3 add more diversity to the place u explore i hope ME A do something similar but in a bigger way.

Same. I loved the ME1 angle where you could take a good closer look at the planet itself.

I would have liked more foliage on the planets.  It was a lack of variety of plant and animal life that, in part, negated some of the really nice colors and sky scenes ME1 had.  I really don't know why they couldn't have more planets with some "trees" (or alien equivalents) rather than just pretty much texture-less green-colored "rocks" to represent grassy planets.  What shone for me about the ME1 planets was not what was on the ground, but rather what was in orbit above the planet.

In ME3, I like the view of Palavan from it's moon, but it was the scenery from the Ardat-Yakshi Monestery that really caught my eye.  ME2 didn't have much... but the scenery on Ailte (sp?) during Overlord and from Hock's mansion on Beckenstein was pretty good.

I would love exploring planets again. Destiny for all its faults really did a good job landscape wise (especially the Moon). And Destiny might be a good representation of what ME:A might look like graphically.

ME2 had its moments too:

K0bHoji.png

And so did ME3.

I believe ME1 had some on of the best views because of two reasons: i) the lighting engine seems to be different. So the suns and the planets look better. It was probably very demanding, that's why ME1 was such a technical mess and why they changed it for ME2 and ME3. And ii) they are very "pure". You land on a barren planet and just look up and see them, they are there in the open.

YES!
If MEA is all about space exploration they need to make some things like that...

I'm guessing it will actually be a racing game...  :P

I think each Mass Effect shines in it's own way and love them all equally.

No. The first is a pile of gold nuggets, the second has some crap in it, the third is a pile of crap.
