I beat the game once as a Champion.

Now that all the dlc is out, i decided to do a final completionist run as my main save.

I was set on rolling KE, but the nerf to the class made me lose interest. I know they they are stronger now but i hate the change in playstyle. What fun is swinging the light saber only once between spells?

Long history short, i can't decide between a Assassin or Necromancer.

Assassin has better damage. Necromancer gets the mage dialog and and more CC, but unless i'm wrong Mages damage is kinda low. I actually like RM more, but it is still buggy and ineffective against large mobs/bosses.

What should i pick with optimization in mind? Build suggestions are welcome.

edit: I'm playing on Nightmare with trials on.

I cant copy and paste from this garbage computer at work, but I just posted in another thread about Seb Alleman on youtube. He does really good necro videos. Theres one called Dragon Age Inquisition Supreme Damage Mechanics for Pyromancer where he does an insane about of damage for a necro. About assassin theres a few posts on the forums about builds and ideas. actionhero112 recently started a thread about his assassin with a build in it. Should be on the front page still.

I don't understand where this meme is coming from. It's not true. RM's are not any more buggy than any other class. RM's do better with large mobs than any other mage.

And, you know, Weakened. It's impossible to overstate the value of that status.

It is true that KE has an edge for dragons, giants, and smaller bosses that ignore CC effects, but that doesn't make RM completely useless in such battles. Even when I was running my dragon hunter KE pre-Patch 10, when KE was OP, I still had Solas along for Weakness generation.

Like here, under-leveled by 5 (before Patch 10, though).

Anyway, I'd go Assassin myself. Necro is cool, but personally I find necro to be a bit "noisy" visually. So much purple stuff going on, it's almost a fog-of-war that obscures combat. Not as bad as Toxic Cloud, but not too far from it. I had to turn off Spirit Mark/Wisps to see better.

This meme is only partially true. The bug in question here is Shock-Weakness bug which override mana regeneration in favor of a Sleep effect when you use a Rift Mage spell on a Shocked target. Since many bosses are immune to Sleep, it means that the bug is detrimental to Rift Mage's effectiveness.

However, this can be solved by not taking lightning enchanted weapons, storm spells (except Lightning Bolt and Energy Barrage) and elemental mines (specifically the shock mines).

RIft Mage is only completely useless against Giants. In fact, I think that Bioware made Giants specifically to make Rift Mages miserable. Here's the info on Giants from this website - http://dragonage3.wi...ife.com/Enemies

Giants - Very High Armor. Weak to Electricity. Immune to Physical Effects, Fear, Paralyze, Freeze, Sleep, Weakness and Snare

Yep. Giants are immune to Weakness but weak to Electricity. Guess which specialization relies on Weakness and is not very compatible with Electricity ?
