I am attempting to create a custom familiar for a sorceror, and turning up a blank when it comes to finding examples of how to make the newly created familiar a selectable option within the toolset. I can find plenty of NWN 1 examples of this, but nothing for NWN 2. Is this simply something that is not possible?
Custom Familiars?

Here are a few links which were PM'ed to me:
http://neverwinterva...iar-pack-update
http://neverwinterva...n-familiar-pack
I am seeing if they will work for me by throwing them in the campaign folder.
Update: I am making attacks, creature properties for a pseudodragon based on these modules. I will post as a stand-alone.

This is the 2DA file that allows me to pull in the new familiar:

I notice that when selecting one of these new creatures, there is no description of them in the player creation menu - is there any way I can fix that? I assume it's the description pointing somewhere? What do I need to update to/add to my campaign folder so I can add a description of the benefits of a pseudragon?

Also, my cute tiny baby dragon shakes the ground as it walks - is the footfall sound tied to the model?

You need to set the correct reference to the dialog.tlk file.
You can do two things
1) Copy the new (presumably modified) dialog.tlk (only dialog.tlk works with this method) file in your .../MyDocuments/Neverwinter Nights 2/ folder
2) Use a custom tlk attached to the module in the .../MyDocuments/Neverwinter Nights 2/tlk/ folder
If you're using a custom .tlk then you need to do the following:
Whenever you want to use a string from your custom .tlk in a .2da file, use a StrRef of 16777216+(line # in your custom .tlk).

So by editing the TLK file I can change the descriptions used in the familiar selection screen> What do I open the tlk file with? Notepad and gff editor have failed me, not seeing an option in the toolset.

Above is what I changed for the Pseudodragon's entry - it gives me a bad strref when I look at the familiar in the character creation screen for a name and description.
I have the Pseudodragon Name and description on lines 99 and 100 of my tomb_of_horrors.tlk file, I seem to be doing something wrong.
I tried the following for STRREF and the DESCRIPTION columns:
16777216+(99) 16777216+(100)
16777216(99) 16777216(100)
16777216+99 16777216+100
1677721699 16777216100
16777216+(line 99) 16777216+(line 100)
No luck. I am doing something wrong here I think.

I haven't done it myself, but I believe you're supposed to actually add the line number to the offset number, making them 16777315 and 16777316.

This worked perfectly. Tomb of horrors how has the option of a pseudodragon, sylph, skeletal minion and a floating intelligent sword as familiars. Pseudodragon and the Sylph are statistically comparable to the other familiars. Small feat, squishy, etc.
The Sword and the Skeleton can become capable combatants - the catch is it requires a player to take them higher than 20, which means missing out on prestige classes. The level 29-30 Sword/Skeleton are reasonably powerful units.
Thanks all of you for the tips!!!

I'll wrap this up into something stand-alone for people tool.

One more step closer! Thanks for the help with this - I learned a great deal about how the game pulls in outside elements.
