We have a thread for movies and for guilty pleasures so I figured I'd go ahead and put up one for TV shows.

If anyone wants to talk about House of Cards' recovery season, Better Call Saul, or the ever fun Vikings this is a good place to do it.  I'll also throw in animes and whatnot since they count as well.

And if anyone wants to get an earful, ask me about s5 of Game of Thrones and why it was the worst thing ever.

I don't really watch a ton of TV.  I'm currently watching:

  • Survivor
  • The Amazing Race
  • Top Chef
  • RuPaul's Drag Race (starting on Monday, bitches!)
  • The Walking Dead
  • Vikings
  • Criminal Minds
  • Law and Order: SVU
  • Game of Thrones (starting next month)

And if anyone wants to get an earful, ask me about s5 of Game of Thrones and why it was the worst thing ever.

Is this related to Stannis?

Better Call Saul, Black Sails, and Vikings are my favorites at the moment.

I'm also looking forward to the return of Mr. Robot, Game of Thrones, and Penny Dreadful.

I have a love/hate relationship with The Walking Dead.

Daredevil, which is returning for season 2 soon (wuhu), Hell on Wheels, Black Sails. As Han i also have a love/hate relationship with The Walking Dead. Half of each season seem to be 2 great episodes, 2 good, and 4 meh.

Oh, I forgot about Penny Dreadful.  I watch that too.  And Fear the Walking Dead.

Bah, all of my favorite shows have been cancelled for years! Angel, BtVS, Firefly (I'm sensing a trend), The Addams Family, Kindred: The Embraced (SSHHHH TELL NO ONE), Teen Wolf up until 3B ended...

I recently bought Season 1 of Orange Is The New Black and plowed my way through that in a weekend. Good stuff. And I'm thinking of picking up Rome?

Most of my favorite anime/manga are the fairly popular shounen sort. Except Samurai Champloo, I guess.

Rome was pretty good, Gomez.  I think it's worth picking it up.  Plus, James Purefoy as Marc Antony could GET. IT.  I think you'll approve.

Also, if you haven't already done so, you should check out Spartacus.  It's the trashy equivalent, but it's all good fun.

Spartacus is like the coked up version of 300

not entirely, but substantially

there's also Dorne, the butchery all of the North was subjected to, the horrific changes inflicted upon the rest of the cast

Rome is one of my favorite TV series. As far as the sword & sandal genre goes the only show comparable in quality was I, Claudius. It's a shame HBO and the BBC decided to only shoot it for two seasons.

Drama, drama, and more drama.

Currently watching the final season of Lost Girl. I'm not pleased with how the series has developed and am only watching it because I've devoted five years and may as well see the end.

Series finale of Downton Abbey is tonight OHEMGEE. The British Inquisitor VA (the one I used) was in this season and that has been so much fun, particularly in romantic scenes.

The Blacklist. I sort of hate watch this show at this point. James Spader is really the only reason I'm watching.

Fargo. In between seasons at the moment, but I love this show SO much.

Law & Order, all iterations of it. I tend to watch it whenever it's on, on whichever channel, and I do have the various channels memorized and flip among them occasionally. I have favorite detective and lawyer pairings that I prefer. The later seasons of SVU have also sort of turned into the Olivia Benson show, which is somewhat irksome. Also, if any L&O fans have not seen it, I HIGHLY recommend Law & Order: UK. Most of these episodes are reworks of original L&O ones, but within the UK legal system and some modernization for the older ones.

Madam Secretary. Another show that I just adore to death.

I also watch House of Cards and Game of Thrones, but I wait until they're out on DVD. Yes, I'm weird.

Sherlock. I suppose this counts, but it's so sporadic that it hardly feels like an ongoing series.

I also watch Doctor Who, but I'm just not that into it anymore and am starting to rethink it. I like the current Doctor just fine, and I know that this is how the series works, but the continual changing of Doctors and companions is starting to wear on me and make me not care. It also doesn't help that each new Doctor has to struggle until he comes to terms with his new identity, and each new companion has to learn how and why they mesh with the Doctor, what being "the Doctor" means, and so on. It's just tedious.

I'm sure I've forgotten something.

I try to give new series a chance by watching pilots I think I might be interested in, and most of the time I will know before the halfway point if it's something I'll want to watch again. This doesn't happen very often.

I'm also slowly watching the entire run of Star Trek TOS, followed by the animated series, followed by the original cast movies (1-6). The 50th anniversary is this year. I love the show, but watching it in this way really reveals just how misogynistic some of it was. At this point, I just cringe whenever I see the flavor of the week female yeoman or lieutenant beam down on some away mission. It can be so bad that I generally prefer the episodes with a limited female presence. There are some badass women on the show, and I have my favorite guest stars, but they are few and far between.

What has also been amusing is noting some of Kirk's sexual exploits, not ALL of which are just about him getting some action because he's the male lead. Some of them (the ep. Catspaw is a notable example) are him basically using sex to his advantage in order to save the Enterprise. We usually see women doing this, so it's sort of refreshing to see it from a man.

I'm big on comedy. My favorites are Archer and Community. I think Archer might be the funniest show in television history.

When it comes to drama, it's all about House of Cards. I'm in the middle of the fourth season now, and sometimes the plot points annoy me, but the dialogue is reliably on point. I'm conflicted when it comes to the Claire character. Robin Wright is beyond fantastic, but I think the writing with that character is too wishy washy.

I've seen the first two seasons of Game of Thrones, and the first Season of the Walking Dead. First two of the Battlestar Galactica reboot.

Those are the ones I dropped and really want to pick up again, but I often find heavy drama exhausting.

I love Downton Abbey, but much more the earlier seasons than the later.

I'm definitely a big Whedon fan, and Firefly will always be a favorite. I love Pushing Daisies, and I still mourn that it was cancelled so abruptly.

I am the biggest Twilight Zone fan ever. I have a TZ themed charm bracelet, and I collect stuff to do with Rod Serling.

^ OH! Do you watch the annual Independence Day and New Year's TZ marathons on Syfy? This past New Year they started early and ran the entire series non stop. It was a nice chance to see some of the more neglected episodes from their usual marathons.

I used to watch them every single year, and I didn't even want to break for a long night sleep, because then I might miss one of the Burgess Meredith or Jack Klugman episodes.

But now I just have every season on DVD. If I had cable, I'd probably still be watching that, because it would compel me to get into some of the episodes I forget about. But sadly, no cable.

I wish I had someone who wanted to watch them with me now and then. I don't know anyone irl who likes it nearly as much.

This overlaps with guilty pleasures, but has anybody seen the show Trinity? It's a British mystery/drama with a lot of intrigue. Tv tropes describes it as a cross between Gossip GIrl and skins. But it has Charles Danse, so that makes it better. I really enjoyed it. It was canceled after just one season, though. :(

Kirk's go-to solutions for solving a crisis were to either punch it in the face, or fvck it.

That's not intended as criticism.  :D

Definitely a product of the era, though. It may seem somewhat dated now, but the original Star Trek was sort of ahead of its time in some ways as far as TV goes. Wasn't Kirk & Uhura the first interracial romance on American TV?

And she was one of the only black women on such a prominent television show at the time. Nichelle Nichols once said in an interview that she had wanted to leave the show, but Dr. King himself urged her not too, because that portrayal was such a huge stride in African American representation.

Not watching a huge amount of TV at the moment. As i get older my tolerance has eroded.

Been rewatching Farscape recently.

Watched House of cards season 1 and wasn't overly hooked.

Can't watch GOT because it simply isn't on par with the books and that annoys me.

Enjoyed walking dead first few seasons. Need to binge watch next couple of seasons at some point.

Last thing i really got into was Longmire, after which i got hooked on reading the novels.

Before that i think it was American Horror Story that caught my attention.

I've fallen behind on my TV watching lately. At the moment Jane the Virgin (it's a lot better than its name suggests) and New Girl are the only shows I'm making an effort to watch each week.

When I have time I catch up on Elementary and Castle. Occasionally Bones when I have nothing better. I also watch all the MCU TV shows (both the Netflix ones and the ABC ones). And the Expanse, though that won't come back for a long time.

I stopped watching GOT towards the end of S3 because it was getting too different from the books. I haven't seen The Walking Dead but I've read most of the comics.

I highly recommend Rick and Morty to anyone interested in sci-fi weirdness and somewhat absurdist humor. The amount of wit and creativity crammed into each episode is astounding.
