I find it difficult to start new series, plus I don't have that much time, so my list is not that long, but here it goes:

  • Adventure Time - the heavier episodes are so well made, and the series has a lot of heart
  • BoJack Horseman - started it right after ending Breaking Bad, saw Aaron Paul and decided 'why not?', it's funny and depressing at the same time, it's really good
  • Archer - it's badass, and funny, and give me the next season already
  • Bob's Burgers
  • South Park - a bit mixed about this, I go from loving it for a season, to really being tired of it during the next one
  • Last Week Tonight with John Oliver - my weekly dose of 'wtf America?', really enjoy that they cover lesser known subjects
  • Looking - just started, so can't say if I like it yet
  • Happy Endings - rewatching it now, because god it was so amazing (or should I say a-mah-zing)
  • Ghost Stories - go and watch it, the anime was so terrible, the VAs for the dub decided to have fun with it and go total parody. It's spectacular.

Plus there's a long to watch list including Community, Parks and Rec, Game of Thrones, Fargo (looks awesome!), Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (loved 30 Rock, so), Sense8, Arrested Development, season 2 of the Comeback, Twin Peaks, Six Feet Under, Downton Abbey, Better Call Saul, House of Cards, The Walking Dead... I'll never catch up with it.

Bah, all of my favorite shows have been cancelled for years! Angel, BtVS, Firefly (I'm sensing a trend), The Addams Family, Kindred: The Embraced (SSHHHH TELL NO ONE), Teen Wolf up until 3B ended...

Yes, Teen Wolf ended after 3B. The godawful seasons that came after never really happened. I will accept nothing else. They did not reduce my favourite character to basically only having an awkward romance the entire season.

I guess I was lucky, the only one they cancelled on me was Happy Endings.

^ Well, at least Downton Abbey is actually over now, with a real ending, and UK seasons are smaller than US, so you could just watch the whole thing and cross it off your list. Also, Fargo's seasons are (99%) self-contained, but if you are going to watch, be sure to watch the movie before the first season (for a specific, spoilery moment I can't mention).

I am quite curious as to your opinion of Looking. I haven't watched it -- slice of life shows aren't my thing -- but I did read some uncomplimentary reviews (from gay men!) who were quite specific about why they disliked it.

And a random Archer thing... One of the current TV spots for the upcoming season is a parody of the Magnum PI opening ('stache and everything!) and it is fantastic.

Many of those ended, but for example Six Feet Under has 60-minute episodes... Gonna develop a strategy :P

Also, I've got both the movie and the series downloaded, was wondering if the movie is really important, but now I'm gonna watch it.

Oh, I forgot about Penny Dreadful.  I watch that too.  And Fear the Walking Dead.

The trailer for Season 3 is now up.

Did anyone else watch the series premier of Underground? I rather liked it. The important thing for me is that a series, regardless of content, has likable characters. This had likable characters, so I'll definitely be watching more to see what happens with them.

Spoiler

Also, for some bizarre reason, I can't get WGN in HD where I live, so everyone is all wide and odd looking. I didn't even recognize this actor from TURN (where he also plays a slave...) since his face was stretched out. o_O

^ I'll be sure to check that out, Nightscrawl.

I also want to start watching Penny Dreadful and Fargo...Maybe Fargo. I'm not a huge Kirsten Dunst fan.

Kirsten Dunst is only in the second season. They are pretty self-contained, so you can only watch the first one if you prefer. I will say though, she does play the role really well. As I suggested to Biotic, be sure to watch the movie again before starting, even if you've seen it, as there is a specific reference in the first season. It's not really necessary, but just adds an element of fun when you recognize it.

While I have my complaints about Season 4, I think it's extremely worth hurrying for.

All I'm keeping track of right now is Daredevil S2; I'm only three episodes in. So far so good (although of course there's the old story about the guy who jumped off a ten story building and at each story said "So far so good."). Jon Bernthal's Punisher makes for an imposing yet visibly broken antagonist, and Deborah Ann Woll does some outstanding multidimensional character work as Karen Page; I think she may have the most complex role on the show, and she's more than up to the task.

Marvel's Netflix series have been much more grimdark than their movies, but IMO they work in a way that, say, the DC films don't (haven't seen BvS, though). Daredevil and Jessica Jones (which I thought was pretty amazing) get that human beings need and make use of humor to deal with terrible situations, and they both have ways of introducing brief moments of levity to vary the proceedings. This also helps the dark moments hit even harder, because when you're stuck in just one emotion, the audience will eventually adapt to it and not really feel it anymore.

Spoiler

I really detested what they did with Claire.  it was very grating to see other characters bend around her trying to build her up and it just came off exceedingly poorly.  I'm glad this season we actually got reason to think she was actually politically astute on her own, because I never got that vibe from season 3 more that she thought she was smart and was getting more chances to prove it than she deserved.

I'm also increasingly bored with the journalist plotline trying to dig up the dirt, I'd rather that was just abandoned.  Doug got better this season so I'm fine with him sticking around.

Just finished with Daredevil S2, and sad to say, it fizzled out at the end. The series of villains got progressively less interesting: Punisher was great, Nobu and the Blacksmith not so much. And the season ended up being way too heavy on strange bits of lore: The Chaste! The Hand! The Black Sky!! (Don't ask what these things are. The answers are not terribly interesting.) Also, the sheer number of ninjas in the last third of the season just broke my suspension of disbelief; it seems like the kind of thing you'd have found in a different show altogether.

There were still elements to enjoy: Jon Bernthal as the Punisher remains strong throughout, and the show never lets you forget that he's dangerously unhinged even as it nudges you towards empathizing with him. Deborah Ann Woll is fantastic as always (although she's given less to do in the later part of the season), and the appearance of Wilson Fisk in the second half injected some more life into the show. Hopefully, the next season will see much tighter writing.

Anybody watch the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead?

Spoiler

Spoiler

I had mixed feelings about the finale. The cliffhanger was incredibly lame and totally unnecessary for a popular series that is now going into it's seventh season. They don't need a cliffhanger at this point to get people to tune in.

The final episode was also an example of one of the things I find most frustrating with the writing of the series. Rick's group seems to alternate between supreme competence and mind-boggling incompetence as the plot demands. Villains suffer from the same problem. I'm sure that when Negan's time eventually comes, it will be from doing something stupid, despite being nearly omnipotent and straining suspension of disbelief in his ability to predict and check every one of Rick's moves in the season finale.

Agreed about the inconsistent writing.  What is going on with Carol's character?  She's like a different lady in each episode!  Props to Melissa for her acting though.  She's doing all she can with that terrible material!

Yeah, I do.  It's not my favorite show, but I watch it every week or two and usually have it on in the background while I'm working on some other stuff.

It's solid.

I do, but as a Norwegian it kind of bothers me, more like alot. I know it is not going for historic accuracy and it is doing its own thing, and that is fine, but i can't quite get past it. Then again the Norwegian goverment turned them away when they wanted to film here, so we are partly at fault.

I do like it when i just view it as what it is though. And i do like Ragnar, and his haircut!

Why does it bother you as a Norwegian, out of curiosity?  I think I might know (I did some doctoral courses at University of Copenhagen with other international students -- including Norwegians and Swedes, so I got a bit of the first hand experience of how the Nordic countries interact), but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

^ Me too! Erm, the hearing the thoughts part, not the fancy learnin' part.

It's always interesting to see how other nationalities react to their depiction in non-home media. I can say the same thing of various professions -- medicine, law enforcement, etc.
