if we're gonna talk favorite characters from the books, from the show....Davos I guess

For the TV series I think it is Davos for me as well, though he's also one of my favorites from the books.

My absolute favorite from the books however is Wyman Manderly. I'm still disappointed that he didn't make the TV series. Probably because a lord with one of the largest armies in the North expressing undying loyalty to house Stark and scheming against House Bolton and the Freys would give the audience some hope, and that would have undercut Super Ramsay.

“Foes and false friends are all around me, Lord Davos. They infest my city like roaches, and at night I feel them crawling over me.” The fat man’s fingers coiled into a fist, and all his chins trembled. “My son Wendel came to the Twins a guest. He ate Lord Walder’s bread and salt, and hung his sword upon the wall to feast with his friends. And they murdered him. Murdered, I say, and may the Freys choke upon their fables. I drink with Jared, jape with Symond, promise Rhaegar the hand of my own beloved granddaughter…but never think that means I have forgotten. The north remembers, Lord Davos. The north remembers, and the mummer’s farce is almost done. My son is home.”

Instead of that, the TV series gave us some elderly chambermaid telling Sansa "the North Remembers," only to be killed off immediately afterwards.

Honestly, I don't think you are. Her arc has been extremely exhaustive, and she's presented in some ways as a savior archetype, which is something a writer should be very, very careful with.

I used to like Dany, but I'm just tired of her story. There are only a few characters I like left. I sympathize with Sansa, but don't enjoy her the way I do Tyrion.

I feel similarly about Catelyn. I've never been very fond of her.

The problem I have with Dany - and to a degree Carol on TWD - is that both were great characters when the arc was about disenfranchised women who had been previously powerless, slowly learning to grow a steel of spine... but unfortunately, the result of that transformation left us with overly judgmental and extremely self-righteous individuals, who refuse to see anything other than their way as viable.

Spoiler

As for Cat, while I never liked her much as a character, what GRRM did to her in the books makes a certain lick of sense because of the circumstances surrounding her death.

Spoiler

I think the best thing in the episode though was that after years of waiting, as well as tortuous time spent watching dull Deathly Hallows camping, trekking to Mount Doom, searching for the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran's story finally got interesting now he's doing his Jedi training!

It's been a while since I've read the books.

I think I read somewhere that it is

Spoiler

I don't know why I think this.... Can't remember where I read it. Maybe on that Reddit thing you linked me to. But, eh, don't know how reliable that stuff is and that could just be what happens in the show version.

Oh, is their a release date on the next book yet? Anyone know?

Actually, ignore that.

I've just reread where I read that from at the guy is pretty off-base about what's happening in the show so far that it seems unlikely.

I really hate that the Boltons are being shown to be the undisputed rulers of the North and none of the Houses who lost people at the Red Wedding are prepared to challenge the people responsible. We all know the Boltons are terrifying, but there should be far signs of dissent and that the rest of the North is eager to see them go.

Anyone else watching RuPaul's Drag Race this season?

Not going to lie, this is the most likeable F3 (F4 also with this last episode) ever.  I'd genuinely be happy with any of them winning, but I'm definitely a big Bob the Drag Queen fan.  I've seen her live and she's a genuine entertainer.  She's quick and hilarious.  That's my kind of queen.

My favorite house is House Dayne. They have the prettiest colors.

House Stark for me.

Eh, that latest episode really cheesed me off, getting real tired of Lord Edgy, goddamn stupid that was. Best thing about that episode Bran's trip through time. Pretty cool seeing Lyanna and a young Ned, Benjen and Hodor.

I also hate that Tyrion is secretly a Targaryen theory.

I kind of hate the theory as well, because making it true would retroactively validate Tywin's firm belief Tyrion wasn't his son and the irrational hatred he threw at him constantly.

But Tyrion truly being a Lannister, makes it far more tragic that has constantly disowned. Even though he took after Tywin far more than Cersei or Jaime when it came to his cunning and intelligence.

It's kind of crazy to think that we are only going to get about another 15-20 episodes of GoT. I feel like there's so much to do still but that's not much time considering how slow they move.

as long as we get some Wyman Manderly before the end

I also think the pace of events is going to pick up soon.  We'll have Clegane and Bastard Bowls this season, some sort of conflict with Dorne (maybe with Dany?) the IB are getting done.

I'd prefer full length seasons to carry us out to the rest of the show.

Of course, the reason for truncating it might be because compared to GRRM's eventual book, they've nixed or are going to accelerate some of the more superfluous subplots... which is good, because Meereen is bad enough to sit through, but NO-ONE CARES ABOUT DORNE!

A great episode, save for the Three-Eyed Crow being a total friggin' tease (again) when it comes to the Lyanna subplot. If he wants Bran to "know everything", he's certainly taking his sweet time letting him see anything worth actually knowing.

The last two episodes have actually been quite good. I didn't want to turn off my computer while watching them, a step in the right direction. Love the "flashback" scenes.

Anyone here watching Anthony Bourdain's more recent show? I think each of his shows have increased steadily and significantly as they've gone on.

Ugh... every complaint I had a fortnight ago about Dany was made worse by end of this episode.

I can only hope the show is setting her up to not be a viable long term option, but I'm not optimistic

she's lost any semblance of the humanity and struggle that made her a compelling character in the first two seasons.

Agreed. Every single one of Dany's encounters with "adversity" since season 3 has been [makes boastful claim]->[have boastful claim rejected]->[makes even more boastful claim]->[wins with fire magic]->[gets worshiped]->[repeat]

What was probably intended to be an epic moment just felt boring and flat to me. All that was going through my mind was "Oh great, that's at least 3 more titles she's going to be adding to her name."

At this point, she's too much in love with being worshipped and on a clear ego-trip.

Compare every other faction leader to Jon, we can see how he comes off as the best at the moment. He never sought power (and tries to reject it) but has taken it reluctantly, regularly listens to the people around him for advice, as well as sees the bigger picture and knows that they can't necessarily count on the Wall to protect them.

Everyone else wants power for their own petty reasons, whether it be religion (High Sparrow), revenge (Sand Snakes/Lannisters), amusement (Ramsay), advancement (Littlefinger/Tyrells) or simply entitlement (Stannis/Dany).

Since Sara Ramirez is leaving Grey's Anatomy, I am finally free from this show. 12 seasons, 3 of which have been pointlessly meandering just to continue making cash for ABC. She was the only reason I stayed this long, so I can finally move on.

Seeing how bad the series has gotten, I'm gonna skip Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder, I just don't trust Shonda Rhimes to move past pointless drama being the only plot device anymore.

On an unrelated note, I again recommend BoJack Horseman, season 2 was really emotional. And season 2 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is out, so I think it's time to finally catch up with it.

^ Drama is my jam, but I'm not a fan of nighttime soaps. I watched the pilot of Murder, mainly for Viola Davis (who is fabulous), but I just couldn't get into it. It didn't really help that I didn't care about anyone after the first episode (I really need to have this to be involved), and that I found the law students annoying.

Did any of you all watch Underground? The 10 episode first season has finally ended, and it has been renewed for a second. This is going to sound rather weird... but its depiction of slavery was... uh... tasteful? Respectful to the subject and people? That is, not gratuitous -- more 12 Years a Slave than Django Unchained. Granted it's on TV, so they can't get too carried away, but it has a certain atmosphere. All of the main female characters, black and white, are very strong. It also had characters that I really liked and was rooting for in each of the segmented story lines. I loved it and highly recommend it.

There are very few shows I watch with any regularity these days.  Like many I enjoy Game of Thrones and will probably watch that to the end.

Walking Dead is honestly starting to bore me, but I figure it's only 40 minutes a week if its recorded so I might as well see where it goes.  I watched "Fear the Walking Dead - Season 1" but have decided not to watch the second season, as to me it feels like a more annoying version of Walking Dead.

After that I enjoy American Horror Story and the new Scream Queens show.

I will watch Saturday Night Live whenever there is a new show on.  I also like comedy shows I can just leave on in the background while I browse the net on my iPad, like Simpsons / Archer / South Park.

I used to watch The Voice but now I just record it, see if anyone sang a song I actually like, and then fast forward to that.  This season there were only a few songs I actually end up watching, though for some reason I do like watching the elimination shows each week.

I also still watch MTV's The Challenge...the entire cast is annoying but I think I watch this just because I have watched it since I was a lot younger.

Since a lot of these shows don't overlap, I think I only actively watch 2-5 hours of TV a week depending on how many shows are on in the same season, which I guess isn't too bad.
