Okay, I'll spoiler tag this just in case someone's reading who didn't watch GoT last night.

The Battle of the Bastards was kind of a 'meh' for me. The parts that were well done (like Jon getting trampled and the melee combat) were tempered by the raging stupidity happening elsewhere (like Jon falling for Ramsay's trap right after Sansa warned him and Rickon running a STRAIGHT LINE away from an archer.....).

But it was definitely satisfying to see Ramsay get his due. The actor did a great job with that character but Ramsay was so OTT over powered and plot shielded for so many seasons -- plus the video game -- that it was certainly time for him to go.

I genuinely am unsure what's going to happen to the North now, though. Does Jon become Warden of does Sansa become Warden? Since no one knows Bran is still alive. And how does this all fit into the larger story? I'm assuming that the North will focus on bolstering strength against the White Walkers?

I'm definitely interested in seeing where it's going, though! That moment when the Stark sigil was hanging on Winterfell again!

Oh, and it looks like Dany's got her fleet. She'll be setting sail for Westeros by the end of the season. Maybe that's the final shot before credits next episode? I'm not going to lie, I did enjoy watching her and Yara eyeroll about show Euron. What a tool!

I really disliked the Dany/Ironborn scene. Her entire character seems so thoroughly removed from the rest of the universe, everything she does goes her way. Its damned annoying.

Robb married the entirely likeable medic. Given how likeable she is and not that important she is, I'm expecting horrible things.

I won't say Jeyne is a fascinating character, but I did not care for Robb's wife in the show at all.

Just started Season 6 of GoT and am about halfway through episode 2. Really excited to catch up.

I really disliked the Dany/Ironborn scene. Her entire character seems so thoroughly removed from the rest of the universe, everything she does goes her way. Its damned annoying.

 

I agree, Dany never seems to suffer any real setbacks and even the ones she does are relatively minor, trivial and resolved extremely easily. She's become a bit of a smug super in that regard, because at this point in the show, even she's become savvy to her plot armour.

 

Sure you can level the accusation of plot armour to some of the other characters, like Jon or Arya, but at least we've seen them suffer, endure and lose on multiple occasions.

 

I won't say Jeyne is a fascinating character, but I did not care for Robb's wife in the show at all.

 

I like Oona Chaplin as an actress, but I found the character of Talisa extremely dull and uninteresting. Still, at least she's not as irritating as Shae and I don't actively dread her appearing in scenes.

I keep forgetting him LOL. Mostly because his role might goes way beyond the fate of his house.

I was musing on the Three Eyed Raven earlier (spoilers for the show and possibly the book);

Anyone hoping he might reappear at some point down the line to give Bran advice, as Greenseers are unbound by time and can see visions of both the past and the future?

 

Might be a nice twist to learn that he knew his death was imminent, possibly because Bran let it slip to him when he looked into his relative future. Perhaps all those times he was off in visions by himself he was actually giving future!Bran information he needed to face off against the Night's King.

 

Otherwise, perhaps another predestination paradox where Bran told Brynden Rivers to desert the Night's Watch and go into the far north, because he had to gain the knowledge and experience with Greensight in order to pass it onto Bran when the right time came.

 

Perhaps an older Bran even taught him, making both of them mentor and student of each other, at respective points in time? And further adding subtext to Benjen's comment on him being the Three Eyed Raven now.

 

Of course, what happened in "The Door" really doesn't need to be repeated, which any further timey-wimey nonsense might end up poorly imitating, so that's one reason it might be a bad idea of GRRM uses it again.

However, they have finally cast Superman for the upcoming season, and it is Tyler Hoechlin of Teen Wolf fame. I doubt the role will be very large so as not to hog the attention away from Supergirl, since it is her show, after all, but I know some of y'all like him, so...

 

I'm sure he can play Superman just fine. What would really interest me is if he can pull off the adorkable Clark Kent. How 'bout them glasses, huh? Aren't these a super disguise?!

 

Adorkable guys are just the best, and it was one thing I really liked about both Christopher Reeve's and Brandon Routh's version of Clark.

THE KING IN THE NORTH

I don't actually watch this show, but I've read various things about it.

 

Apparently on Supergirl, Superman is Supergirl's cousin or something, and he only shows up briefly in glimpses. It's been sort of a running thing on the show that Superman is like this presence that is never seen. I assume that was done so as to not conflict with the wider film presence. However, they have finally cast Superman for the upcoming season, and it is Tyler Hoechlin of Teen Wolf fame. I doubt the role will be very large so as not to hog the attention away from Supergirl, since it is her show, after all, but I know some of y'all like him, so...

 

The problem with Supergirl is that she has never really managed to get out of his shadow in any continuity, let alone how many different incarnations, names and backgrounds they've given her over the years.

 

Even her origin is all about Supes, because she was meant to watch over him. It would be better served for her character if her parents had been the ones to take Jor-El's warning to heart and created the lifeboat plan, sending her off first, several months before Supes had been born or perhaps even conceived?

 

Would be kind of cool to have a version of Kara Zor-El who never even knew she had a cousin, who was sent after her but through the same cosmic hijinks she experienced, ending up arriving years ahead of her.

 

Hopefully they'll stop doing this now it's on the CW, because in the first season of the show, it's ridiculous how many times he's alluded to, mentioned outright or compared to her in each episode. It does feel like she's playing second fiddle to him in her own show at times, which is a shame because she's often a more interesting character than Supes, when they stop trying to make her a distaff counterpart.

My thoughts on GoT this week:

• RIP Margaery!  She was a really cool character and I was rooting for her, but I kind of knew that she wasn't going to get a happy ending.  I was so frustrated for her when she knew something was up and couldn't get her brother out safely in time. 
• Varys' magical teleportation skills annoyed the hell out of me.  So he leaves Mereen to go to Dorne, shows up to deliver one line, then travels all the way back to Mereen (without the show showing it), just to hop on a boat with Dany to sail right back to Westeros?  I know that Dany's fleet had House Tyrell and House Martell boats, so I understand why, but it was just poorly done.
• I find Jon so boring, but I'm not upset to see him named King of the North. 
• Queen Cersei I is going to have a very very short reign.  The only question is if Jaime will get a new nickname ("Queenslayer") as well.....?
• So how is this setting up?
  • Dany (with the Dothraki, Ironborn, Martells, & Tyrells) against Cersei
  • The North (and the Vale?) against the Whitewalker
• I know she's a bit cliche, but Lyanna Mormont is pretty damn awesome.  I wish I could fast forward and see what the Lady of Bear Island is like when (if?) she's a grown warrior-woman.  She's going to be formidable and curmudgeonly. 
• It took Olenna Tyrell to make a Sand Snakes scene bearable.  I could definitely handle watching her shred them one at a time every episode.
• My biggest question:  Where is Melisandre's story going?

The magical teleportation of characters is a major problem in this show, because it's either the show having characters move at the speed of plot or the writers failing to make it clear that we've been skipping over large chunks of time or that all events are not happening concurrently?

 

Having the fleets all together after rendezvousing offscreen is fine, but it does kind of seem fast when it took Varys two episodes to get from Meereen to Dorne offscreen.

 

It probably would have been better if we'd seen the meeting between Olenna and the Sand Snakes last episode, with them arranging an alliance against the Lannisters because Olenna wants to ensure her family's safety from Cersei, not get revenge for their deaths at her hands.

 

As it happens in this episode, I still don't know how the news of the deaths of Mace, Loras and Margaery got to Dorne and Olenna so quickly either?

 

The scene with Sam at the Citadel was another example of how news seems to travel fast or slow depending on the scene, where we find out the Maesters at the Citadel have not had any Ravens from the Wall to inform them of Lord-Commander Mormont or Maester Aemon's deaths.

 

Unless the Ravens were killed during the battle with the Wildlings in S4, as busy and hectic as it has been at the Wall, you'd have thought they'd have sent news of Mormont's death long before now? Mormont died in early S3, before the Red Wedding and back when Theon still had his "favourite toy". Yara/Asha suggests in S6 that this took place a few years ago in the shows timeline, so yeah... it's clearly been a while for that news to fail to trickle down south.

 

The episode makes the speed of news in Westeros even weirder, because the Ravens announcing Winter are shown being sent out when Sam arrives at the Citadel and later we hear of the news from there arriving at Winterfell. So if Ravens can go north so quickly, then why has it been so hard to send a single, measly one south long before now?

 

I know the Night's Watch is meant to be deeply unorganised, but this stretches that to ridiculous levels?

I assume it's either that or she'll run into Arya and they will form an unlikely alliance and travel back to the North together, allowing Arya to reunite with Jon/Sansa and allow Jon to forgive Melisandre for the whole Shireen burning thing.
