I wish that Bioware would go the extra mile and make us the bad guy.

Just think about it.  we are an invading species that is not native to this part of the galaxy.  We will need to take and colonize inhabitable planets that the species that are already living there will need/want.  We are the parasite taking over that witch is not ours.   It would just e great if the incorporate the other side of the story and make us look and feel like the jerks we are.  In Andromeda we are the British/Spanish/French and the local aliens are the Native Americans.  It would make for a fun and interesting story.  Not just us being the great white hero that saves all mankind yet again.

I would have loved to play as Illusive Man.

At least give me some of those sick looking blue eyes of his for my PC.

Yeah could be nice. But I don't want the aliens the be the 'poor victims' and us humans the 'evil invaders.' I want them to fight back just as hard and viciously. No black and white story, but simply the survival of the fittest. In order to survive in this new Galaxy we have to fight for our place in it and get our hands dirty. No one is innocent, etc. The aliens hate us and we hate them. Let the best man win.

If Bioware goes evil, I personally think it would be more important if Bioware delivers us an actually cool, well-written and hateable badguy to play AGAINST ... their latest attempts here left me rather cold for the most part ...

Renegade is not really evil. It's efficient.

ME3? and even then, there's probably enough evidence to vouch for him/her being purely pragmatic.

BTW I mostly play Paragon, a mix of both.

i thought it was just funny.

At least in ME2. Those other Renegades aren't very fun.

It won't happen. Not many people would find it fun to be the bad guy of the game. Playing and knowing that what you do is evil. People usually are fine with doing shady stuff if its in pursuit of some kind of greater goal but being the villain...

I'd prefer that to be an option. To be able to complete quests with choices that can have you become a "bad guy" in the end.

I would have absolutely no problem playing as the bad guy, if only to avoid the usual pretentiousness that comes with playing the "good" guy in video games.

True but it's still more fun than playing as paragon and still closer to the "bad" side xD

The bar for even being a bad guy in this setting has to be pretty low. Err.. or is it "pretty high"? I'm confused. Even Control Renegade Shep is admired are some level, but to me, they're only a hair away from Reaper Stalin.

A bad guy would have to be outright malicious against aliens. Like a Sgt Barnes from Platoon. Killing cripples and little kids. Do people really want to play that? It's fucked up.

Even if we don't end up playing the bad guys, I would at least like there to be some depth to the issue of us going to a new galaxy and ultimately invading new worlds to find a new home for humanity. There is plenty of historical context there to draw from.

I'm aware this is slightly in contrast to another ongoing thread about moving political context and agendas out of video games, but I feel with no context or some connection to real life issues, past or present, the game, world and characters would be very blank and not very rich.

We should be able to oppress, enslave or wipe out other species for the advancement of our own. It's the natural order.

And who said BW didn't make us the actual bad guys or at least give us the option to be truly merciless regenade towards native Andromeda aliens?

I hate to break it to you, but we are often the bad guy even in ME1, 2, and 3. Reapers are the bigger threat, but as humans we act high and mighty all the freaking time. Acting like we should just walk in and get whatever we want. I expect no different in MEA. We will undoubtedly be more grey than we often like to think. I of course will be playing like a horrible ******* I am.

I'm torn. I wouldn't even be born if there wasn't a Vietnam war. :(

And yet....I still have to judge it.

The furtherest that we were allowed to go in the original trilogy was playing as an Anti-Hero, no matter how controversial the action we committed it was still being done with the greater good in mind. I don't have much hope in Andromeda allowing us to fully cross over the line, but if it did I would be very interested in seeing how things would play out.

To me, that's where it's best. Not a goody guy, but more like Bruce Willis in Die Hard.. or any variety of 80s action really.

I have no desire to be some racist maniac/slaver though. Even on a gameplay level, I don't know what would be fun about it.

I would argue there are examples of human characters who do act like this, Udina being the first that springs to mind. But humanity as a whole, I don't think so throughout the entire trilogy. At the start yes, and we see this trend continue in ME1. But I felt it was only Cerberus who were still wanting more following ME1's events.

I definitely would like to see humanity be portrayed or at least explored more in terms of morally grey actions, since we as a species have an extensive back log of heinous examples of invading other places and staking claim to a place that wasn't rightfully ours.

What about SWTOR? Isn't Empire the more popular side in that game? Imperial Agent, Sith Warrior & Inquisitor had the best class stories and it proves that Bioware is very capable of making great stories with us playing the villain.

The only thing I didn't like was that you couldn't switch sides... same with original ME trilogy. It would've been great if you could've sided with the Cerberus instead of the Alliance in ME3.
