Can more people have long hair in Mass Effect?

And while you are at it, add long hair options on the character creation screen.
Yes, this has been talked about before, but we still want long hair. And not just for girls; long hair for everyone.

Longer and more detailed hair needs more graphic work effort ($$$). That's why EAware avoids that at all costs.

Of course. Need longer hairstyle and thicker beards, so thick it made the hairless aliens frightened at the sight of it.

Sure they can. But will they?
Make it so, Bioware.

Doesn't fit the soldier archetype.

I'm bold and I feel offended. Don't let this hair shaming happen, Bioware!

Lol Bioware can't even animate short hair properly, let alone long hair. So yeah, don't hold your breath for that one sadly.
That said I'd kill for long hair. Hell, even some feminine short hair would be a nice change...

I really want long hair too. I'm tired of the short, female Shepard type of hair length. I don't even count the really short or bald hairstyles because those are just terrible.
It should be long enough to brush it like Yen's here.

Bahahaha! Anyone else notice how she never actually touches her hair? What a great support for long hair...

Haha yep. She's just pretending to brush it there.

I've played the game. I know the scene. The picture presents a bad context though, in light of the discussion.

Well, I'd like hair long like hers. Long enough to need a brush. I don't care for the funny animation there.

I didn't care much for the hair in TW3, but the glorious cloth though...

I would like if there was more medium or long hair options, or at least hair options that imply the character has medium to long hair. I would also like there to be different kinds of short hair as well.

Long hair is usually going to cause clipping issues through the armor, or weapon to the back or whatever it is that it's going to get through. I guess that some people don't actually care about clipping issues and they'd rather just use suspension of disbelief to do the plausibility work. The problem is that we don't get the last word on that, the artists at BioWare do (I'd imagine). If the guy(s) who makes the hairstyles in Andromeda's team believes that it looks ugly because 'x', 'y' and 'z', it won't happen. To be honest I only want to see more hairstyles, period. More variety. I don't really care about the hair's length.
And other than TressFX I haven't seen any other modern 'methods' to make good-looking, well-animated, physics-responsive smoothly and realistically-flowing-in-the-wind (is that a thing?) long hair. If they implement it in Andromeda, fine, would be a cool extra. It'd have to be optional of course, since it eats GPUs performance like hotcakes (although I had no issues with it in 2013's Tomb Raider).

Clipping is an issue that can be dealt with by weighting the mesh correctly and having multiple meshes for different armour sets and headgear and then programming the game to display the correct mesh for the correct outfit. It's some extra work but not ridiculous amounts and it depends on just how committed a company is to hair. BW don't seem particularly committed or at least it's not a priority. Maybe that will change with all the poor feedback they've had. Who knows?
Realistic hair with individual strands is something we are only just starting to see now with TR and TW3 and even then it wasn't a case of a full head of hair. It is something of middle ground where you have a mesh which is a mix of "cards" (polygons with many hairs drawn on them - classic approach) and individual strands. You can animate both the cards and the individual strands based on real world physics to give a good approximation of realistic hair. The quality of the result depends on the artist and animators though as well as the engine and your physics solution (e.g Havok or PhysX). Deus Ex: Makind Divided is the next big game that seems to be taking hair seriously so watch out for that.
Eventually, we'll all have powerful PCs and consoles that can render individual strands in real time but we're a way off yet.

Why should it change? Long hair really was NEVER practical for the kind of combat situations in which the PC and companions are involved in the last THREE ME games. People keep acting like their character has to be freakin' fabulous, but they forget that 90% of the game involves combat missions. Be fabulous off the clock, not while you're getting shot at or smacked around.

Or alternatively, they could give us two meshes per long hair option. One for casual clothes/sleek armor (if we ever even get such an option) with the long hair worn down and then one for armor with the hair worn up into a bun or ponytail. Like in Tera when you have armor with a high collar.

I'd love that since it feels more realistic too. Seeing that it's easier to have your hair up when being all active and shooting people and...stuff.
But, if they were to take this route (Which I highly doubt anyway since they're so incredibly stunted in the hair and brow department. I'm looking at you DA:I, with your 52 buzzcuts, nasty sideburns and cavemen brows! *swings fist*), please...Bioware, don't be your usual lazy self and make each updo unique to it's original hair style and not give them all the same bun or ponytail.

And then we'd have people b*tching EVEN MORE about how the game is delayed further.
