It's disgusting that people leave employment whilst a game is in development.
Personally I think every employee should be forced to remain employed until the last DLC rolls out of the door.
And while we're about it, they should be shackled during the day and be led to guarded bunkhouses at night.
Actually no.
People move on from companies for a variety of reasons.
That is not of itself a sign that a production is 'troubled'.
An annual staff turnover of around 15% gives the best blend of experience and new input,
in other words some change of staff it actually better than no change of staff.
I agree, to a point.
When Westwood studios was bought by EA back in the day, the rumor goes half of the staff quit in protest while they had Tiberian Sun in development when EA wanted the game released ahead of schedule.
This was old EA, back when it was under Trip Hawkins and then Larry Probst as CEO, so the problem now is the he-said/she-said sort of back and forth between both sides on it. What annoys me is how half of the staff quit on their job without giving notice, if the rumor is true, while the game was in development. That would directly lead to EA stepping in and taking more control; they had to just to finish the game and re-staff Westwood.
See, I teach for a living, and if teachers did that, it would be chaotic and just simply unprofessional, even if the work environment sucks in the end, and ive been there before. You don't quit or walk out, this is not retail in the end, you either ride it out or give a notice, and line up other work.
At least in these cases we have folks likely giving notice to EA and not forming a mass exodus so it's fine, but when its too many people and its a walkout...it irks me heavily because its simply unprofessional.
