Hey all, while some topic drift is normal over the course of a thread, the topic in this thread has veered off into serious off-topicness.

Continued off-topic posting will result in the thread being locked.

Please remember to always adhere to the site rules when posting on these forums.

You know what would alleviate this sort of problem?

An off-topic forum.

Crazy suggestion, I know.

I have no idea who this person is...To be honest, I don't know half the people who leave Bioware. Its only through the threads that treat it like the end of the world I even hear some of these names.

Neither did I. Did some research on it, and while holding a respectable position within the company, it is not that vital and she can be replaced. People tend to think the worst when someone leaves. Fact is that this is a company with hundreds of employees, with people probably ready to step up and take a job when someone in the same department as them leaves. I think it is the combination of some key people leaving and the fact that we don't know that much about the game, it really triggers people. We should just wait for E3 and see what we get.

I'm pretty sure you should never mention that you post on BSN in your job interview. That will burn all bridges. :crying:

Haha yeah , like I'd used my actual identity in my BSN profile. They will never know.

If you do, go for C++ primer. Avoid the books that teaches C++ as an advanced topic to C. Just know, you've a long hard road ahead of you if you do, also, learn calculus.

Going back to college for a CS degree is always the superior option, but I realise that may not be an option.

My BA was economics so I took all the engineering-level calculus and algebra courses :)

But I forgot all of it. :/ I can just buy books and brush up tho

I wonder if part of the issue as well is the lack of understand of what the different levels of positions are at BioWare combined with her title being Senior Editor making it sound to be more vital then what it might be.

Maybe. Plus we don't know anything really. For all we know 5 people could have left during the Dragon Age Origins development, and well the game turned out fine, some would say! Just because we have the Internet to get all this information doesn't mean we know how to process it correctly, or even know what it actual means to the development of the game. Best we can do now is just wait and see.

Well, Brent Knowles left DAO.. but his work was in tact with the final game. Him being gone is felt more in DA2 and DAI. He hated the action direction.

Yeah was some clashing on the creative side there, with Mike Laidlaw i think. I like the action aspect well enough, if it could just be properly combined with the tactical solutions aswell.

Yeah, I don't dislike it either.. generally speaking. But I think DA2 did it better.

You too?

I got punched in the face by Stanley Woo when I mentioned my BSN profile. As I was losing consciousness, I think I heard, "End of line." Can't be sure though....

I was dragged out past some doors labeled "Reeducation camps" and "viddathlok" and thought I recognized some others from the board. But they gave me some nice qamek and now everything is lovely bright and I believe in the One True Way of Bioware.

wow, that is some maximum level hair splitting.  Be careful, or I may report you to the moderators if you continue being this hostile and needlessly confrontational.

It's not splitting hairs at all, you wannabe-hall monitor. Words have meaning.

Those sucked. What was the bomb was the TMNT ice cream bars with the gumball eyes.

Pfft. Those things tasted like every other generic and branded ice cream on a stick and the gumball eyeballs were never in the right place. Plus they were always too cold, hard and chalky to actually chew, making them entirely pointless.

Regarding the & Industry part.

I'm 28 and I want to change my career. I know everyone and their cow wants to get into the videogamey industry but is it really a far-fetched idea? What if I bought a C++ textbook and then learned all the API's in the world and and and

Build actual content. Show it to developers.

It's disgusting that people leave employment whilst a game is in development.

Personally I think every employee should be forced to remain employed until the last DLC rolls out of the door.

And while we're about it, they should be shackled during the day and be led to guarded bunkhouses at night.

Actually no.

People move on from companies for a variety of reasons.

That is not of itself a sign that a production is 'troubled'.

An annual staff turnover of around 15% gives the best blend of experience and new input,

in other words some change of staff it actually better than no change of staff.

I agree, to a point.

When Westwood studios was bought by EA back in the day, the rumor goes half of the staff quit in protest while they had Tiberian Sun in development when EA wanted the game released ahead of schedule.

This was old EA, back when it was under Trip Hawkins and then Larry Probst as CEO, so the problem now is the he-said/she-said sort of back and forth between both sides on it. What annoys me is how half of the staff quit on their job without giving notice, if the rumor is true, while the game was in development. That would directly lead to EA stepping in and taking more control; they had to just to finish the game and re-staff Westwood.

See, I teach for a living, and if teachers did that, it would be chaotic and just simply unprofessional, even if the work environment sucks in the end, and ive been there before. You don't quit or walk out, this is not retail in the end, you either ride it out or give a notice, and line up other work.

At least in these cases we have folks likely giving notice to EA and not forming a mass exodus so it's fine, but when its too many people and its a walkout...it irks me heavily because its simply unprofessional.

That's because nostalgia is stupid. I know that the Turtle pies were great because they were custard inside a glazed pastry. That's dynamite no matter the decade.

Nostalgia IS stupid. Remembering (correctly or falsely) fonder times of youth makes getting older and having more responsibilities suck all the more.

But it's kind'a in the definition.   http://www.dictionar...rowse/nostalgia

You can say it's stupid all you want, but I can guarantee you at some point, you've felt nostalgia.
