But it's kind'a in the definition. http://www.dictionar...rowse/nostalgia
You can say it's stupid all you want, but I can guarantee you at some point, you've felt nostalgia.
People do all kinds of stupid stuff because of the stupid things they feel.

That's very true.
It's not splitting hairs at all, you wannabe-hall monitor. Words have meaning.
Pfft. Those things tasted like every other generic and branded ice cream on a stick and the gumball eyeballs were never in the right place. Plus they were always too cold, hard and chalky to actually chew, making them entirely pointless.
I kind of like that type of ice cream though.. or popsicle or whatever it is. There's tons of brands, but I only ever see it in ice cream trucks. It's like sherbet or something.
The gumballs are useless though, I agree.
Yeah, damn those millennials! With their trophies and pink bicycle helmets.
I Wasn't insulting millennials or implying they were the cause of the fall to begin with. I'm saying millennials shouldn't contribute to the decadence that's already there. I'd like to think we have more foresight than that.

Actually, I think millennials seem to be pretty thoughtful, generally speaking (I don't think generation matters THAT much though). Maybe too thoughtful. Hence the pink helmets and trophies. ![]()
Decadence is probably a baby boomer thing... if anyone.

To be fair, there is nothing wrong with indulging from time to time.
So long as you know you are indulging a bit and not hurting anything its all fair id say.
I'm not even sure if "indulging" caused the first crash. Is that what it was? I was just a kid. I didn't even notice a crash or anything back then. I had an Atari 2600, then 5200.. but mostly played in arcades.

Well what caused that crash was mismanagement and over-saturation through smaller game companies making consoles and games, plus you had gimmick games based on in-store products for publicity.
Thats not indulgence, that's negligence and a bit of greed thrown in. It's also never going to happen again because gaming much more different than it was once was back in the 1980s.

Probably harder to do it anyways. Too expensive and risky to make games. You better have a decent idea or you're screwed. I think most of the crappy things we get nowadays are honest mistakes.
I'm more afraid of the industry moving away from the risk itself and moving en masse to mobile games and the like. You can make 20 games for the price of a AAA title. And if even a fraction of those do well, they'd probably be better off.
Eh, who needs editors when you have a new writer who's bigger than a hummer......i bet she gives out more harmful emissions too

IT is about commercial art in the end, so long as there is a demand for AAA games we should be good.

There will be demand.. just less risky ones as time goes on imo. It's mostly that way as it is.

You can say this about other things as well, but that's not really true, things change, culture changes technology changes.
And then there's always someone that tries something different / retro / new, if you look for it there's going to be enough variety.

Other things like what?
There are few ventures that cost 60, 70, 80 million for just one product... that "might" be successful.
It was different in the 80s, where one small team could crank out multiple titles in a year.
And even when they are successful, companies are still jumping ship. Look at Konami and MGS. People who run this industry, who mostly care about money and not games, will keep an eye on that. They'll either be less risky or do what Konami did.

Konami wasn't a great loss from where I am standing, the type of business they represented is also the type that tends to be the most anti-consumer in the end. They closed down despite the fact that by all indications they were making good money on their products.
But hey, maybe they are able to leech more money off with pachinko machines, its their prerogative.
In the end the market will probably take care of all this. Companies will get out, others will get in, but as long as there is a demand for video games of
any kind, someone is going to make that video game, and if not via EA or Activision or Konami, than via crowd sourcing.

I didn't say Konami was at a loss.. I just said they see less risk with the other direction. Even when they have a success like MGS.
And that's all I'm afraid of. There will be a demand for type of games we want.. but the risk factor could make AAA more dependable and boring. It's already happening really.
