That's a powerful story.  Perhaps the elf would think that Loghain had the knowledge, history and ear of the human nobles to help Ferelden going forward, whereas a Dalish elf would never get the respect or voice they deserved?

I'm more inclined to kill off the Warden these days knowing they barely have a voice in DAI.  Perhaps it's better they die a hero.  And as time goes on I find it harder and harder to justify the DR.  It leaves a nasty taste these days, especially since I played a dwarf noble who was super excited to die fighting a dragon.  What a noble death!

Sounds like a great world state though.

Well, I personally despise the grey warden order with every ounce of my being, so I take the DR because I uterly refuse to sacrifice myself for their cause or even let someone do it. If there is a way to end the blight without sacrificing people because of the wardens rotten practices, then I'll gladly take it.

I did that with my Cousland, she hated Duncan for emotionally blackmailing her into becoming a Warden in front of her dying parents so despised the wardens. She did the DR, but personally the more I've played the more forced and convoluted the Landsmeet becomes.

There's an immediacy and danger present in the female version that is lacking on the male.  The danger isn't as personal or impactful (for me) for the male as it is for the female.

Spoiler

Not saying the male lacks impact, it's just so much less of an experience than the female, from my perspective.  But then, as I pointed out upthread, I'm female and relate more to the female mind-set.  I can play males, but with few exceptions, (my King Cousland and Daylen Amell being stand out males I connected to) the roleplay is nearly non-existent when I play a male.  Call it a personal preference I guess. ;)

And responding to Cailan about how exactly Duncan chose you to be a warden is epic on a City elf, regardless of gender, but again has a bigger impact for me on the female.

Fair enough. As for me, I'm a guy and I still think the female is more epic than the male, but I have an easier time connecting to the emotional side of things from the male city elf if only because that sense of responsibility and failure to help in the way society and culture expects the honorable and decent man to do, provide and protect.

I personally like the female better for the same reasons you do, but as a male I find it easier to roleplay men.

My first Warden ever was a Cousland who did the US... I don't know why. Because now, if I can view anyone doing the DR, it's that.

The Wardens I have now that do the US have personal reasons to do it. It has nothing to do with the Warden duty per se.. but sself-imposed guilt or atonement.

Loghain's interesting, but I've never seen him in DAI. He's really that worth it, huh?

I agree for them needing more villains like that. I think only the Arishok comes close.

His appearance is really good.  Yes, he's realized how badly he messed up in Origins, but he's also come to terms with it and grown from the experience.  It was great character development,

Spoiler
Even if  you don't personally do it, you should at least Utube it.  Of the three wardens I enjoyed his cameo best.

I'm sure a romanced Alistair would have been good, but in my worldstate he was a warden in, it was my King Cousland who was the HoF

Spoiler
Otherwise, Alistair and Stroud were virtually interchangeable.  Loghain was standout as a man who's looked his own personal hell in the face and emerged something better for it.

That's a shame, I hoped Alistair would be awesome as the Warden.  I'm still looking forward to experiencing it  and seeing him in that role.

I'm glad Loghain got some good character development.  Lets face it, for most world states he's dead, so I'm glad they took the time to do him justice.

Alistair does have some very Alistairesque lines that show he is still Alistair.

But it's an Alistair who is now a Senior Warden.

I still like Stroud though.. just for Hawke's sake. I can imagine her making friends with him more.

Yea, storywise Stroud made more sense than the other two, moreso if the surviving Hawke sibling is a warden.  Alistair is okay if her sibling is in the circle since he would be the one encountered in Act 2, but Loghain is waaaaay out of left field.  But I still like his cameo.  Gave the writers a good chance to do some character growth on him.

I think it would have been cool if the warden helper was Hawke's warden sibling.  Would have made the choice in the Fade a lot more interesting.

Yeah, it does seem weird to have Alistair instead of Stroud in that scenario.

One of them saved the sibling's life and the other just casually met Hawke for one minute and left.

Or have Hawke's sibling AND the Warden Cameo.

I think Alistair made little sense to be there, unless he was exiled by king Cousland. Loghain seemed the most logical warden to show up actually. He was sent to Orlais by Awakening, he has every reason to be mixed up in Clarel's plot. Alistair and Stroud had no business in Orlais. Making it feel more convenient rather then simple story progression.

Loghain makes sense to me, in general.

I just don't know why Hawke would be friends with him. I have to invent more about it. I can imagine more stories about that with Stroud...especially with Warden sibling.

This ^

Not questioning Loghain's presence in Orlais since he was supposed to have been assigned there after Origins.  I'm just seeing the 'friend of Hawke' connection as tenuous at best, with all three actually.  Alistair and Stroud at least would have had some connection to the Champion of Kirkwall since they actually meet in DA2, however briefly.  Stroud has a bit more credibility since he would have been the one to potentially have saved Bethany/Carver--making more of an impact than a senior warden who helps out in a skirmish during a crisis then trots off to do 'more pressing warden business'.  Alistair less so since he falls into the latter category and they meet for all of 2 minutes briefly during the Qunari attack.  It would have been more credible if Warden Loghain had at least made a brief showing during DA2 in the role Warden Alistair fills, especially since it would have been impossible for them both to appear in this capacity.

I could even see Alistair's presence in Orlais as "encouraged to leave Ferelden" by Queen Anora, who would have probably made it difficult for him to stay, particularly on my King Cousland, as it would have been Allistair who killed her father and is still, alive, a potential threat to her monarchy.

But the connection to Hawke is far less plausible than why they are in Orlais.  To me, Stroud makes the most sense if Hawke has a warden sibling since they have the strongest connection.

I guess Corypheus is the stronger factor in any of the three showing up at all and contacting Hawke since they would have learned about the ancient and Hawke's connection to him.

Time continuity is the worst part of Bioware stories.  Hawke would have barely learned what happened and yet, as soon as you get done addressing the crowd in Skyhold, Varric tells you Hawke is waiting for you, and Hawke already has a warden contact.  Prior to this, no one even knew Corypheus was the threat.  It was the unknown factor.  How could the Warden have 1) contacted Hawke 2) met with him enough to be called a friend and trust him enough to allow the Inquisitor into the equation 3) Hawke have even arrived at Skyhold practically ahead of the Inquisitor who only just arrived himself.  Recall, Skyhold is still such a mess when Varric says he has someone to speak to you, you've barely opened the doors to the main hall, let alone cleaned out the pigeon poop.

Today, not a problem, information flies across the internet with the speed of thought, but medieval times, relying on messenger bird...I dunno, it seems iffy to me.

Regarding Alistair, I think it's Bioware's way of getting rid of that variable (since they seemed fond of Queen Alistair more).
